Rules & Scoring

Soccer Tiers

In Tiers contests, participants will create a lineup by selecting players listed in the Player Pool. Each player listed has an assigned Tier, and a valid lineup must include a player from each Tier. The number of Tiers may vary based on the Game Set.

Contest results will be determined by the total points accumulated by each individual lineup entry (scoring rules summarized below).

Participation in each contest must be made only as specified in the Terms of Use. Failure to comply with these Terms of Use will result in disqualification and, if applicable, prize forfeiture.

Scoring Notes

  • The MLS awards both primary and secondary assists. Both primary and secondary assists are used for scoring in MLS contests and they have the same point value.
  • A shot on goal will count as both a shot on goal as well as a shot. I.e. a total of +2 PTs.
  • In the instance where a player gets 2 yellow cards, the player will NOT be given a red card. The player will get a total of -3 PTs.
  • Goalkeepers/Defenders must play at least 60 minutes to qualify for the clean sheet bonus. The player’s team (regardless if he is still playing or not) must allow zero goals over the course of regular time and extra time to qualify. Injury time is not counted in a player's total minutes played.
  • Goalkeeper win stat is determined by the score after regulation time or extra time, if necessary. Penalty shootouts are not considered in determining a winning Goalkeeper. For two leg ties, the win stat will only consider the game being played, not the tie as a whole.
  • Goalkeepers must play at least 60 minutes to qualify for a win. If a goalkeeper gets subbed off, his team must be winning at the time of substitution in order to be eligible for the win. The score at the time of substitution is not factored in for a Goalkeeper who is subbed into a match.
  • A penalty kick save will count as +2 PTs for the save and an additional +3 PTs for the penalty kick save.
  • Stats from Penalty Kick shootouts will not be counted for any players.
  • Own goals do not count as goals for, but do count as goals against for Goalkeepers and do factor into Clean Sheet calculations.

Lineup Requirements

Lineups must consist of one player from each Tier and must include players representing at least 2 different soccer games. The number of Tiers may vary based on the Game Set.

Player Pool

The players in each Tier are chosen by DraftKings.

In most circumstances, once the Player Pool is established for a Game Set, including positions and salaries, the Player Pool will not be adjusted. In the rare event that there is a mistake within the Player Pool that would significantly impact game quality, DraftKings reserves the right to correct the mistake after contests for that Game Set have become available. This may result in valid lineups becoming invalid. This would most likely occur shortly after the Player Pool becomes available, far in advance of the contest start time, and participants who have entered contests for the Game Set prior to the adjustment will be notified via email.

A "Game Set" is a set of matches used for contests; each contest is tied to one Game Set. Contests tied to the same Game Set can be created at different times. Therefore, game policies are based on the timing of a Game Set being made available, not each individual contest.

Position Eligibility

Player positions are determined at the sole discretion of DraftKings.

Lineup Edits

Lineups may be edited at any time leading up to matches kicking off. Each individual player will become "locked" at the scheduled start time of their team’s match. A locked player cannot be added or removed from a roster spot. Locked roster spots for all entries are displayed in contest GameCenters.

If the scheduled start time for a match changes after contests for a Game Set containing that match become available, DraftKings will take measures to ensure the change is reflected on Draft Screens and for lineup editing purposes. In the rare case that a match starts before the scheduled start time, all players within that match will become locked as soon as our feed reflects that the match has begun. Additionally, any swaps that were made after the real-life start time of the match will result in those lineups being disqualified and refunded.

Cancelled, Postponed, and Rescheduled Matches

In the event that a match is canceled, postponed, or a match is rescheduled to a time outside of the original Scoring Period, the match will be disabled from the Game Set and players listed to play in that match will not be eligible to accrue points.

The Scoring Period for SOC is defined as the timeframe between the scheduled start of the first match within the Game Set and 11:59pm ET on the date of the start time of the last scheduled match within the Game Set.

DraftKings may choose to adjust the Scoring Period for a Game Set at their sole discretion to accommodate schedule changes at any time before 12:00am ET on the date the Game Set is scheduled to start and/or if the adjustment would move the Game Set start time by 15 minutes or less.

Any matches that are disabled will be indicated as such on Draft Screens. Emails and other notifications may also be used to notify users of disabled matches.

If canceled or matches rescheduled for a later date result in a Game Set including only one active match, then all contests for that Game Set will be canceled and refunded.

Matches are "known" to be canceled or postponed once their status is updated as such by DraftKings’ SOC stats-provider, OPTA.

Example: If a Game Set includes two matches at 8pm ET and 10:30pm ET respectively, and the 10:30pm ET match is officially postponed at 6pm ET then all contests for that Game Set are canceled and refunded. If the 10:30pm ET game was not officially postponed until after 8pm ET then contests for that Game Set are not canceled and are played out using only the one active match.

If canceled or rescheduled matches result in a Game Set including zero active matches, all contests for that Game Set will be canceled and refunded.

Abandoned or Shortened Matches

DraftKings uses the stats provider, Opta, and only includes statistics from matches Opta deems to be official. If Opta declares a match "abandoned" then the statistics generated before the match is abandoned will count in Game Sets containing said match. Any statistics generated on a later date when the match resumes will not be included.
