DRAFTKINGS TO HOST HIGH-TECH SKILLS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR VETERANS AND SPOUSES

Bay Area service members to receive free classes as part of Tech for Heroes program

BOSTON, February 10, 2019 – DraftKings will return its Tech for Heroes training to San Francisco, providing local, returning veterans and military spouses with free, comprehensive, high-tech job skills training. The San Francisco session, which kicked off on February 3, is the second DraftKings has held in San Francisco and is part of the company’s nationwide corporate social responsibility initiative to give back to veterans. The company has also held training classes for veterans and military spouses in Austin, Boston, Columbus, Ohio, Las Vegas, and Newark, New Jersey.

“The first Tech for Heroes class we offered in San Francisco was incredible and we are excited to bring the program back to such an important tech hub,” said Paul Liberman, DraftKings co-founder and president, global technology and product. “Helping train the men and women who have served our country is an honor and an effort that DraftKings remains deeply committed to in communities we are a part of, including San Francisco.”

Working in partnership with the national nonprofit VetsinTech, the four-week training in San Francisco will be hosted and taught by a certified instructor at Galvanize, a coding and data science talent development company. The course will focus on teaching veterans and military spouses web development skills and, upon completion, students will receive proficiency certification through Galvanize.

“We are thrilled to have DraftKings’ support to provide critical tech training for our veterans and we’re pleased to be holding our next class right here in our home base in San Francisco,” said Katherine Webster, CEO of VetsinTech. “The partnership that DraftKings provides, and the training delivered by the Tech for Heroes program, is supporting the lives of so many veterans in San Francisco and across the country. I’m proud of the work we have done together and am excited to see such a great response in the Bay Area.”

Since launching the “Tech for Heroes” program in the summer of 2018, DraftKings has invested over $1 million in providing free training to over 200 veterans through classes hosted in six cities across the country. Throughout the year, DraftKings also holds charity fantasy sports contests with all proceeds going to support veterans and the Tech for Heroes program. In 2019, the DraftKings player community raised nearly $100,000 through four charity contests, which helped to expand the reach of the program and train additional veterans.
