Everyone knows there’s nothing better than that feeling of being right when it comes to accurately predicting the outcome of a sporting event. Everyone loves to say “I had that” or “I told you he’s not that good.” And we all know you’re never going to get the opportunity to play at Augusta, but who says you can’t compete? Whether you’re in it for the money or the bragging rights, you want to be on the edge of your seat Sunday evening, knowing that your hours of research and preparation have paid off. If you want to play fantasy golf for FREE on DraftKings this weekend, there are several important things you need to know before building your lineup.

Getting Started

1.Choose a Contest Type

DraftKings offers a wide range of contests that have a variety of different sizes, prizes, and buy-ins. Whether you choose to go head-to-head versus a friend, play in the free beginner’s league, or go for the $1 Million top Prize in the Fantasy Golf Millionaire, there is an option for everyone.

2.Roster Selection and Scoring

Drafting a team is easy: Just pick 6 golfers for your lineup, while staying under the $50,000 salary cap. Salaries are given to players based on their past and expected performances.

Unlike regular golf, fantasy golf scores aren’t just based off of stroke total. Check out the graph right for DraftKings full fantasy golf scoring, which awards points for every hole, bonuses for streaks (such as 3 birdies in a row) and final finishes.

Advanced Tactics

3.Know the Course

When building your lineup, it is important to know whether the course favors guys who are long off the tee or strong wedge play. For example, Augusta is a long course with wide fairways, which may benefit golfers who hit long drives but are sometimes inaccurate. No player was won on their first attempt at Augusta since 1979. Golfers who have experience playing at Augusta really stand to benefit from their knowledge of the course.

4.Take note of the player trends

Take a look at how golfers have performed in recent tournaments or how they have fared in previous years on that same course. For example, sure Tiger Woods has 14 Majors throughout his career, but he hasn’t won a major since 2008, continues to have back problems, and performed horribly in the last three majors last year. Look for guys who are trending in the right direction coming into the weekend. Ultimately, you want as many of your players making the cut as possible to give you the best shot at winning.

5.Find a strategy that works for you

There’s a lot of different mind sets and information out there on constructing the best projected lineup for an upcoming tournament. If you have too many cooks in the kitchen you might struggle to find golfers who fit every mold. Pick a game plan and stick to it when choosing your six golfers.
