DraftKings has over $5K in prizes to award for today’s MLS slate, so let’s take a look at the players who will help you take down your contests! A lot of the teams playing tonight are on a short turnaround having played midweek, so player rotation is very likely. Keep an eye on starting lineups as they are released and adjust your fantasy lineup as necessary. As always, I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@FantasySoccerFC) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff.
Tim Melia – $5,700 – Sporting KC – Melia is the highest priced GK on the board for good reason. He’s notched Clean Sheet wins in consecutive games, and now welcomes a sputtering Colorado Rapids attack that has been shutout in three straight on the road.
Chris Konopka – $5,000 – Toronto FC – The TFC net minder earned 15 DraftKings points in a midweek win over the Montreal Impact, and is back at home against D.C. United this weekend. I expect D.C. hit man Fabian Espindola to have his fair share of chances, which could see Konopka to a big fantasy day should he make some saves to go along with a Toronto win and potential clean sheet.
Others to Consider – Steve Clark (Columbus Crew; $3,400), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; $5,500), Bobby Shuttleworth (New England Revolution; $5,300), Brian Sylvestre (Philadelphia Union; $4,400)
Chris Tierney – $5,200 – New England Revolution – The Revs left back is averaging 8.1 FPPG and continues to be a threat in the attack. He’s an option on all New England set pieces, and is a reliable source of fantasy points through shots and crosses alone.
Jalil Anibaba – $5,100 – Sporting KC – The versatile outside back has averaged 9 FPPG in his last three games and has an excellent shot at another Clean Sheet tonight. The Rapids haven’t scored a goal in three consecutive road games, bumping all SKC defenders across the board.
Sheanon Williams – $3,600 – Philadelphia Union – Williams turned up with an assist on Philadelphia’s game winning goal midweek against the Seattle Sounders, and has now swung in 6+ crosses in each of his last two home games. At just $3,600, Williams is an excellent value play at defender.
Others to Consider – Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew; $4,400), London Woodberry (New England Revolution; $5,200), Ashtone Morgan (Toronto FC; $3,900), Jordan Allen (Real Salt Lake; $5,700)
Lee Nguyen – $8,000 – New England Revolution – Nguyen has a goal and an assist over his last two games and is beginning to look more and more like the MV-Lee we saw post big numbers last year. With another home game on deck, I like Nguyen’s chances to keep his strong run of form going.
Benny Feilhaber – $9,200 – Sporting Kansas City – Benny is second in the league in assists (8) and continues to carry the SKC attack. He showed off his playmaking ability with an excellent find on Dom Dwyer’s goal last weekend, and will be back at it again tonight at home against a shaky Rapids midfield.
Federico Higuain – $7,800 – Columbus Crew – The Argentine contributes across the board and is averaging over 13 FPPG in his last three outings. RSL on the road is not the best of match-ups, but considering his play of late coupled with his <$8K price-tag, Higuain is among the top options at Midfielder today.
Others to Consider – Cristian Maidana (Philadelphia Union; $6,400), Michael Bradley (Toronto FC; $6,300), Sebastian Lletget (Los Angeles Galaxy; $4,800), Pedro Morales (Vancouver Whitecaps; $8,900)
Sebastian Giovinco – $10,800 – Toronto FC – Giovinco bounced back in a big way after his first single digit fantasy performance, scoring a goal and adding an assist en route to an eye-popping 40-point midweek fantasy outing. Another game at home against D.C. United presents the MLS leader in shots and shots on target with another chance to shine, and he is once again my top overall target on the day.
Kei Kamara – $8,800 – Columbus Crew – The league’s leading goal scorer got back on track with a pair of goals to lead the Crew to a 2-1 win over New England on Wednesday. He now has 12 goals on the season and is second only to Giovinco in shots and shots on target. Look for Kamara to continue to put up big numbers any time he’s on the field.
CJ Sapong – $6,100 – Philadelphia Union – @BigAfrika88 was at it again midweek, with another goal to put his scoring streak at four consecutive games. The Union attack is short of options up top, and Sapong has certainly stepped up in the absence of his strike partners. He’s hit double digit fantasy points in six of seven and is a viable option at $6,100.
Others to Consider – Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy; $9,800), Dom Dwyer (New York Red Bulls; $10,300), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes; $10,200), Fabian Espindola (D.C. United; $8,800)
Graham Zusi – $6,800 – Sporting Kansas City – Since returning from an early season injury, Zusi is back to being the danger man MLS fans are use to seeing. He’s seen an uptick in crosses lately, with six last game and four the game before that. I think he continues this pattern and has a good chance to turn in a goal and/or assist tonight against the questionable Rapids back line.
Joao Plata – $5,000 – Real Salt Lake – The decimated RSL attack will turn to the diminutive Plata to spark their attack tonight. He’s a fiery attacker who can create his own shot, as well as contribute fantasy points through crosses and fouls draw. At just $5K, Plata in the flex spot will allow you to pay up elsewhere for the high priced stars.
