Washington Capitals @ New York Rangers

Game Analysis

That did not take long as Henrik Lundqvist gave up four goals in the Boston victory on Saturday. You could have seen that one coming from many miles away. The Bruins are a better team than the Rangers when it comes to match-up. No DFS or Rangers fan wants to hear but it is what it is. As for Washington, the Nashville Predators and Filip Forsberg bent over backwards to make sure Washington suffered. That they did as Forsberg had three points in chasing Braden Holtby early in the 4-3 game. Alexander Ovechkin was surprisingly quiet for the third straight game. That cannot happen versus the Rangers. Washington has to come out with more sustained pace and not vanish for long periods like they do. This just cannot  afford to at all. Losses will keep mounting. By the way Cam Talbot and Braden Holtby are your probable starters. Actually Talbot is confirmed. Rick Nash did score on Saturday for the first time in nine games. Can he get things going. Will Alex Ovechkin break out? That is another question.

Money Line: Rangers -155, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Mats Zuccarello, RW, Rangers ($5100)
  • Derek Stepan, C, Rangers ($5600)
  • Alex Ovechkin, LW, Capitals ($9200)
  • Nicklas Backstrom, C, Capitals ($5400)

Boston Bruins @ Carolina Hurricanes

Game Analysis

This is a game that could have been disastrous for Boston fans if Tuukka Rask had been really sick. Thankfully it was only dehydration, according to Coach Julien. That means Rask will likely be in net on Sunday as if nothing ever happened. Boston rolled on Saturday and it was like watching last year’s Bruins. Milan Lucic scored twice, looked engaged, and might have fought through a Mac Truck to guarantee a Boston victory. Carolina fought New Jersey tooth and nail until Eric Staal scored nine seconds into the third period. Then Justin Faulk added some insurance in the 3-1 win. No one should really be surprised with that result considering Keith Kinkaid was in net and honestly he looked iffy for vast stretches. Carolina has the talent to definitely hem Boston in and has done it before this season. It is more a question for Boston if they can finally start to seal the deal. They need to play like they did yesterday and Carolina will eventually lose. If they do not, then Carolina will be able to apply their possession game and it will be a win for the Hurricanes.

Money Line: NL, O/U 5 (Likely to change with Rask being okay!)

Players to Watch

  • Milan Lucic, LW, Bruins ($3900)
  • Patrice Bergeron, C, Bruins ($7700)
  • Eric Staal, C, Canes ($6800)

Calgary Flames @ Nashville Predators

Game Analysis

The game looks to be a rather physical but fast paced for an afternoon game. It will also have an excellent pace as both teams are ready to roll. Nashville finally is starting to look like the Nashville we all remember. Can Nashville’s defense if it is minus Shea Weber, stop  Calgary’ first line. That is a big question mark. Also, do check goalie confirmations just in case. With so many back to backs, it will literally be almost last minute or near warm-up time when some of these decisions are made. These are the types of contests with the evening time start that can be quite up and down but the only thing is does anyone’s power play show up? That is the unknown. Jonas Hiller may just start in this spot for Calgary and we tend to think that Pekka Rinne will keep on playing until he does not have a reason, I cannot wait to see how the Flames combat the Predators overall depth and the Filip Forsberg line. Get some more popcorn!

Money Line: NL, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Kris Russell, D, Flames ($5300)
  • Sean Monahan, C, Flames ($5700)
  • Craig Smith, C, Preds ($4600)
  • Roman Josi, D, Preds ($8000)

Detroit Red Wings @ New York Islanders

Game Analysis

Hey, so can Detroit finally put something together? Better yet, can the Islanders win a damn game at home? Yes the Red Wings have not been very good but the Islanders are 1-6-1 in their last eight games. Now, they find themselves dangling a bit as the wildcard spots could definitely be in play. The struggles have included clearing out the zone and finishing on the power play. The Islanders had chance after chance on Saturday and just got too cute as they squandered even. At times Detroit had been guilty of that without Pavel Datsyuk. Then the center returned and magically Detroit had confidence, they seemed like a different team against a formidable Tampa Bay opponent. The Islanders have to show something at some point. Watch to see who plays in net for Detroit tomorrow. It should be Petr Mrazek but do not be shocked to see Jimmy Howard. Yes, Howard has not exactly exuded confidence but this game is one the Islanders need to take advantage of the situation. It is time to see which one of the teams have what it takes.

Money Line: New York Islanders -130, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Pavel Datsyuk, C, Wings ($5200)
  • Marek Zidlicky, D, Wings ($3500)
  • Anders Lee, C, Isles ($4100)
  • Jaroslav Halak, G, Isles ($8200)

Florida Panthers @ Ottawa Senators

Game Analysis

Two teams come in with playoff aspirations and basically for Ottawa this is more must win than maybe for Florida. When you lose to the Maple Leafs, that is pretty much an embarrassment. When you blow a two goal lead to Toronto in the third period, there are few words to describe that one. Both teams are going to push the pace and the fact that they are both on the back end of back to backs is significant. Neither team can really back down or take their foot off the gas. This almost sets up nicely for a a good deal of offense. The top six for both teams are very good but I like the Jagr line for Florida in this game. They seem to have it going at the right time. Do not be shocked to see Mark Stone and Mike Hoffman doing well. Ottawa could have two 50 point rookies in their lineup. The other key is this. Can Ottawa score on the power play? More than likely Florida will not be able to. Special teams and late goaltending will be vital. This is one where you must wait for the goalie confirmations.

Money Line: NL, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Aleksander Barkov, C, Panthers ($4400)
  • Jonathan Huberdeau, LW, Panthers ($5000)
  • Kyle Turris, C, Sens ($7000)
  • Craig Anderson? , G, Sens ($8100)

Anaheim Ducks @ New Jersey Devils

Game Analysis

This game has potential to be a true study in insanity. Anaheim stole two points out of Boston while New Jersey duck hooked two potential points in Carolina. Where do you go with this one? That is why it is often necessary to just go blindly on this because nobody really knows just what New Jersey could put up here. They can score no goals or give goals. Possession wise there is no doubt Anaheim should have the upper hand here but again that is almost a moot point. The Ducks have to finish this weekend winners to leave a good taste in their mouth as they head back. Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf are obvious weapons while their depth that features Jakob Silfverberg and Andrew Cogliano among others has to be noticed. New Jersey will have their hands full but can New Jersey generate power play chances themselves. They will or should have started John Gibson to rest Andersen but we will see if that materializes. The key is can New Jersey keep up with the pace then counters with their own speed and rushes. Those Devils that do not will be in deep trouble and it is why that only Cory Schneider can keep this game from getting out of hand.

Money Line: Ducks -160, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Ryan Kesler, C, Ducks ($5200)
  • Corey Perry, RW, Ducks ($9000)
  • Damon Severson, D, Devils ($3200)
  • Michael Cammalleri, LW, Devils ($4800)

Chicago Blackhawks @ Winnipeg Jets

Game Analysis

This is a battle of unknowns as well. Chicago and Winnipeg are just a crazy game waiting to happen. Yes, lately the Jets have clamped down on defense, not allowing much. When you get right down to this, Chicago really has to speed this thing up in order to get the win. It will have some risks as Winnipeg can actually score some goals but what if Crawford makes a ton of saves like he did in Carolina then what choice does one have? The game itself has many twists including what Winnipeg does on the power play, how does it space out its defense, etc. Actually the reality is this. This is the one game with no real easy way to break it down. Corey Crawford and Ondrej Pavelec seem likely to start this but whether they finish is no automatic. The tendency is to think that they will but expect some goals. Chicago, of late, has not been scoring at all while Winnipeg is averaging three goals a game during this little run of games. Dustin Byfuglien type of game anyone? Yes that is exactly what this game might need. He will set the tone but can Chicago follow or not? Strap on in and expect some top line domination.

Money Line: Even, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Mark Scheifele, C, Jets ($4900)
  • Andrew Ladd, LW, Jets ($5500)
  • Jonathan Toews, C, Blackhawks ($5400)
  • Corey Crawford?. G. Blackhawks ($8000)

San Jose Sharks @ Pittsburgh Penguins

Game Analysis

Two teams who cannot score hardly worth a lick lately and yet both cling to the playoffs in their own way. The players for Pittsburgh have to realize that they were one bounce from going 1-6-1 over their last eight games. That has to be at least the little bit unsettling. San Jose is firing soft to pad its shot total now. They did it a ton against Philadelphia where the scoring chances were not from very dangerous areas. Again and again it kept happening and ultimately this turns out to be a wacky sort of game where San Jose could come in and blow the doors off Pittsburgh or vice versa. The key is Sidney Crosby. If he comes out and sets the tone then this is a pretty easy game for Pittsburgh but if the Penguins allow themselves to be pushed then it will be a close against like against Arizona. Pittsburgh commits a lot of unforced turnovers and even San Jose can take advantage of that. Pittsburgh must also draw more penalties to keep drilling that weak PK unit. This may be the most crucial part of the game and one San Jose can win if they keep Pittsburgh from scoring that way then they have a shot. The top sixes have been equal lately to be honest. That is going to, I mean this, will be one hell of a case study.

Money Line: Pens -150, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • *Joe Thornton, C, Sharks ($5000)
  • *Joe Pavelski, C, Sharks ($8600)
  • *Daniel Winnik, LW, Pens ($3300)
  • *Evgeni Malkin, C, Pens ($8000)
