Top Lines of the Night
Pittsburgh Penguins vs St. Louis Blues
Sidney Crosby ($8,300) – Conor Sheary ($5,800) – Bryan Rust ($5,100)
Each member of this line had a 3-point game against the Bruins on Sunday. Crosby continued his dominance and not much more needs to be said. He has 9 points in his last 5 games and had a powerplay goal (PPG) and 2 assists vs Boston. Sheary pushed his point streak to 4 games with his 2 goals and 1 assist on Sunday, while adding 4 shots on goal (SOG). He has 3 multi-point games on this 4 game run. Rust has 3 multi-point games in the last week playing on this line, putting up 2 goals and 5 assists. They have a great matchup against the weak goaltending duo in St. Louis.
Washington Capitals @ Ottawa Senators
Alex Ovechkin ($8,200) – Nicklas Backstrom ($6,900) – T.J. Oshie ($6,200)
I wrote about this line yesterday, and they continued their impressive offensive run. Every member of this line currently has a point streak of at least 4 games. Backstrom pushed his streak to 10 games with an assist on Oshie’s goal, putting his January total at 17 points. Ovie pushed his own point streak to 8 games picking up the other assist on Oshie’s goal and also added 2 SOG. Oshie has the 4-game streak and has scored a goal in each of those games. This line has a great matchup tonight against an Ottawa team coming off giving up 7 goals on Sunday.
Superstar to Build Around
John Tavares ($7,200) – The Islanders’ superstar has a very tough matchup tonight against Sergei Bobrovsky and the Blue Jackets, but the center is beginning to round into scoring form. Tavares has had a bit of a down season but he has 11 points in his last 10 games, with 9 of those points coming in his last 6. He has been shooting the lights out putting up 43 SOG in his last 10 games, including 10 SOG against Philly on Sunday. Despite the tough draw vs Bobrovsky tonight, Tavares is heating up and already has a goal against Columbus this season.
Value on Offense
Lars Eller ($3,300) – Eller has 14 points on the season and has put up 7 of those points in his last 7 games. He is below his career points-per-game pace, but has come on strong with the Capitals’ recent run. He has points in 3 of his last 4 games in the last week, centering the Capitals’ solid third line.
Jason Pominville ($4,100) – Pominville is riding a 3-game point streak and has points in 7 of his last 9 games. He has a goal and 4 assists in his last 3 games and 9 points and 22 SOG in his last 9 games overall. He faces a weak Dallas defense tonight that he already has 2 points in 3 games against this season.
Matt Murray ($8,100) – After his 8-7 win over the Capitals last Monday, Murray has returned to his usual form. The 7-goal blip has been forgotten after his last 3 starts, where he has allowed only a single goal against in each outing. He’s won 4 straight games, including the Capitals game, and faces the Blues tonight – who have lost 5 of their last 7 games.
Juuse Saros ($8,000) – Saros will get the nod tonight when Nashville hosts Buffalo. The rookie has been very impressive this season when he has been called upon to relieve Pekka Rinne. He’s 5-3-1 on the season with a 1.44 goals against average (GAA) and a .952 save percentage (SV%). Saros has won 2 straight and 4 of his last 5, allowing only seven goals against in that time span.
Value on Defense
Scott Harrington ($2,900) – Harrington put himself on the map with 3 points for Columbus this weekend. He had an assist on Saturday and picked up his first NHL goal and added an assist on Sunday vs Ottawa. At this price he’s worth a look as a flier on defense.
Ryan Ellis ($4,400) – Ellis has continued to produce even with the return of P.K. Subban. Ellis collected a pair of assists on Sunday against the Wild, giving him points in 3 straight games with 2 multi-point games. He has 3 goals (one PPG), 3 assists, 6 blocks and 10 SOG in these 3 games while seeing big minutes.
Power Play Defensemen
Erik Karlsson ($6,500) – Karlsson ran his point streak to 6 games with a power play (PP) assist against Columbus on Sunday. He has 7 points, all assists, on this 6-game streak and has contributed 3 PP assists, 12 SOG and 17 blocked shots.
Kevin Shattenkirk ($4,900) – At $4,900, Shattenkirk is a great value tonight, despite a tough matchup. The Blues’ blueliner has points in 3 of his last 5 games, and all 3 games were multi-point outings. He has one PPP in each of the 3 games, including a PPG against the Jets on Saturday. Shattenkirk has 3 goals, 3 assists and 13 SOG in those 5 games.
