Top Lines of the Night
Winnipeg Jets @ Toronto Maple Leafs
Patrik Laine ($6,600) – Mark Scheifele ($6,500) – Mathieu Perreault ($3,800)
Laine rode three multi-point games and an eight-point week to being named the NHL First Star of the Week last week. He had five goals, three assists and 18 shots on goal (SOG) in four games last week. Scheifele has remained under-the-radar thanks to his rookie sensation line mate. All he did last week was post three multi-point outings to bring his season total up to 60 points, tied for fifth in the league. Perrault becomes a top value play with his exposure to this line and enters tonight riding a three-game point streak. He has goals in back-to-back games and eight SOG in his last three.
Edmonton Oilers @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Connor McDavid ($8,100) – Jordan Eberle ($5,300) – Patrick Maroon ($5,200)
McDavid enters tonight on a four-game point streak, and he has goals in back-to-back games, two multi-point games and 10 SOG on the streak. Eberle has had a down season, but the Oilers are hoping that putting him with McDavid will spark him, and it seems to have done that. Eberle has points in back-to-back games and has added five SOG. Maroon continues his career-season playing with McDavid. He has 20 goals for the first time in his career and his 30 points are only four points shy of his career-best. Maroon has points in three of his last four and has put 14 SOG.
Superstar to Build Around
John Tavares ($7,500) – Tavares netted his first goal in eight games on Sunday against the Devils. His tally came on the power play (PP), and he also put five SOG. The Islanders’ superstar has eight points in his last 10 games, and has 49 points in 58 games on the season. He faces the Red Wings tonight in Detroit and he has three points in two games against Detroit this season.
Value on Offense
Derick Brassard ($4,800) – Brassard has had a down season despite the Senators being in the middle of the playoff race. He is heating up at the moment, currently riding a three-game point streak with two goals and three assists. Brassard faces the Devils tonight, and he has two points in two games vs New Jersey this season.
Josh Leivo ($3,500) – Leivo is manning the right wing on the Leafs’ top line next to Nazem Kadri, who is coming off being named one of the NHL Stars of the Week. Leivo had a great week that saw him collect two multi-point games, six points and 14 SOG.
Devan Dubnyk ($7,600) – It’s hard to think that these two goalies are this affordable tonight, but they are, and I think they are great plays. Dubnyk has regressed slightly this month, posting a 2.41 goals against average (GAA) in February despite having a 5-2-0 record. He still leads the NHL in GAA, save percentage (SV%) and wins.
Cam Talbot ($7,700) – Talbot has had a very good season for the Oilers in his second year in Edmonton. He is one of three goalies in the league right now with 30 wins, and he sits 10th in the league in SV% with five shutouts on the year. He has won three-consecutive starts, including a beautiful effort stopping 38 of 39 shots vs Chicago on Saturday night. The Oilers play the second game of a back-to-back tomorrow against Florida, so keep in mind that Laurent Brossoit could get the nod tonight.
Value on Defense
Johnny Boychuk ($4,800) – Boychuk is beginning to look like the defender he was his first year with the Islanders. He has six assists in his last eight games, with two coming on special teams. Boychuk is also producing great peripherals as well, with 16 blocks and 31 SOG in his last 10 games. He is averaging 3.7 FPTS per game over his last 10 games.
Brady Skjei ($3,600) – Skjei has taken on a larger role for the Rangers and he’s been seeing an uptick in his minutes as of late. He has been productive with seven assists, one on the PP, and 23 SOG in his last 10 games. In his only game against Montreal this season he had two assists and three blocks, posting a 2.5 DKFP outing.
Power Play Defensemen
Erik Karlsson ($7,100) – Karlsson notched his second-consecutive multi-point game on Sunday against the Jets, pushing his point streak to five games. He had two assists in each of the Senators’ games over the weekend and in each game, one of those helpers came on the PP. On this five game streak he has one goal, six assists, two PPP, 13 blocks and 18 SOG.
P.K. Subban ($5,300) – It has taken Subban awhile to get going after his return from injury, but he is officially getting hot for the Predators. Subban has a three-game point streak, and points in four of his last five. Three of those four games have been multi-point outings. He has two PPP in those five games and has seven points in nine career games against the Flames.
