The WBO Welterweight belt was up for grabs on Saturday night between the top contenders not named Floyd Mayweather Jr.: Timothy Bradley and Jessie Vargas. Yes, the same Timothy Bradley who “won” the most controversial decision of the decade after getting destroyed by Manny Pacquiao.

Last night, there was once again drama involving a Tim Bradley title fight as Referee Pat Russell stopped the bout with ten seconds left in the final round because he said he “heard a bell”.

Russell’s stoppage came after Vargas caught Timothy Bradley’s chin with a massive right hook — and Bradley was all but unconscious on his feet. When Russell waved his arms, signaling “Fight Over”: Vargas believed he had won the fight, and began celebrating his upset victory. It was an incredibly awkward scene as the fight official frantically scrambled to tell everyone that he didn’t stop it because of a KO, and subsequently: the decision would be determined by the judge’s scorecards — which ruled unanimously in favor of Bradley, despite Vargas’ massive final frame.

Who knows if Vargas would have knocked out Bradley during those ten seconds that were stolen from him, but, between this and the Pacquiao ruling: Bradley is either the luckiest human or the world, or, there is something sketchy going on here every time this dude fights.

Here is the referee’s post-fight interview with Max Kellerman, you be the judge….
