Game Flow Notes
HIGH O/U – Rockets vs. Pelicans – Both of these Western Conference teams are in need of a win. With the highest total on the night of 211, this game should have a lot of fantasy action. Anthony Davis is coming off of a monster game against the Heat and the Beard always gets up when he plays fellow superstars. I also like where Howard comes in against a terrible Pelican’s D.
LOW O/U – Heat vs. Magic – The battle of Florida commences tonight and the Magic have surprisingly been decent. The Heat are coming off an overtime battle on Christmas day, so it is no surprise that the total for this game is 191. I love Vuc against Whiteside tonight. I am also a little worried about Bosh and D Wade coming off of an overtime game.
Pace of Play
HIGH PACE – 76ers vs. Suns – The projected game pace in this one is 102.7. This is the fastest pace of the night and should offer a lot of the dual guards for Phoenix. I will have big shares of Knight and Bledsoe tonight, as I feel like both of them have the potential to go nuts.
LOW PACE – Raptors vs. Bucks – We would usually think a Raps game would be a little higher pace, however, when you play the Bucks the pace drops right out from under you. The Bucks have been one of the slowest teams all season. The game pace today is 93.9 and should be miserably slow. If I have to choose standouts in this one it would be Lowry for the Raps and Monroe for the Bucks.
Defense vs. Position
Point Guard Matchups
TARGET – John Wall vs. Jarrett Jack – Wall has had to carry the load for the Wizards with Beal sidelined. The Nets are ranked 28th against opposing PGs. This bodes well for Wall and makes him an elite play on the night.
AVOID – Reggie Jackson vs. Isaiah Thomas – IT2 has been shutting down opposing guards and will look to continue the trend tonight. Jackson comes in with a high usage and carries a lot of the offensive load. However, tonight he will have a tough matchup against a great defensive guard.
Shooting Guard Matchups
TARGET – James Harden vs. Tyreke Evans – The Pelicans can’t guard any guard. Tonight they face one of the best SGs in the league. The Beard should have a great opportunity to go ham tonight.
AVOID – Will Barton vs. Danny Green – Green and the Spurs just limited James Harden to 39.50 DK points, well under value for price point. Barton has been hot, but will have an extremely tough matchup tonight. I am spending my money elsewhere.
Small Forward Matchups
TARGET – Robert Covington vs. PJ Tucker – Bob Cov has been streaky, but gets a great matchup tonight. In a high scoring, high pace game he will have the opportunity to exceed value. He makes for a sneaky value tonight.
AVOID – Jae Crowder vs. Marcus Morris – I never thought that Marcus would be the better of the Morris’ this year. Crowder has played well and has made for a nice play on some nights. Unfortunately for Jae, Marcus is ranked 2nd against opposing SFs. I like IT2 and Drummond a lot more from this game.
Power Forward Matchups
TARGET – Anthony Davis vs. Clint Capela- I am going to give you a very complex explanation. Play the Brow!
AVOID – Kenneth Faried vs. LaMarcus Aldridge – LMA and the Spurs have been lockdown over the last month. The Manimal will get a new defensive minded Aldridge tonight and will have a terrible matchup. I will be spending up for Davis tonight.
TARGET – Dwight Howard vs. Omer Asik/Alexis Anjica – I am feeling like this is becoming common place. Play Cs versus the Pelicans. Asik looked terrible in his start on Christmas Day. Howard will dominate tonight.
AVOID – Mason Plumlee vs. Timofey Mozgov – The Cavs are ranked 1st against opposing Cs. This honestly has more to do with Tristan Thompson than Mozgov, but Plumlee will have a tough matchup tonight.
Lineup Quick Hits
Superstar Worth Paying For
Anthony Davis (10,200) – If you haven’t gotten the gist of this article yet, it is a Brow night. If he goes down with an injury then my night will be over, but matchup and sheer usage make him the best play of the night.
Save Big Bucks by Drafting
Taj Gibson (4,900) – Gibson has drawn the start and played great against the Thunder. At his price he has a great shot at hitting value tonight.
Dud of the Night
Kenneth Faried (6,000) – The Manimal has a tough matchup tonight. He has been a bright spot in the Nuggets post, but tonight he gets the Spurs and well….nobody wants that right now.
This is not a comprehensive list. Be sure to check for injury updates throughout the day
Joakim Noah – Out, Bradley Beal – Doubtful, Jerryd Bayless – Out, Josh McRoberts – Doubtful
