With 22 teams in action tonight, there will be plenty of options to consider. If you find yourself in need of a trip to the bargain bin, check out these players who cost less than $4K but can still produce solid fantasy results.
Norman Powell – SG/SF – TOR @ NO – ($3,700) – Toronto heads to the Big Easy as they face the twin towers of DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis. New Orleans can definitely score some points, but they allow plenty of points to their opponents as well. With Kyle Lowry injured and Terrence Ross traded to Orlando, the Raptors are getting more offense from Norman Powell who could step into an even bigger role tonight if DeMarre Carroll is out. Carroll is questionable but has missed practice the last two days with an ankle injury.
Powell has played 25+ minutes in each of his last two games and has scored double-digit points and 18 DKFP in each of his last three games. Powell has averaged 14.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals in the 15 games he has started this season. I think he can produce a very solid return on investment tonight whether he gets the nod in the starting lineup or just continues to serve in a more involved role off the bench.
Kosta Koufos – C – SAC @ SA – ($3,800) – The Kings have switched their rotation on a regular basis since trading Cousins to New Orleans, but one player who has served in a consistent role is big man Kosta Koufos. The favorite of coach Dave Joerger has played 24+ minutes in each of his last four games with 29+ DKFP in three of those four games. In his one down game during that stretch, he shot 0-7 against Brooklyn but has gone 10-24 in his two games since while posting double-doubles against the Jazz and Nuggets.
Koufos is in a bad matchup against the Spurs, but he has taken a dozen shots in each of his last two games and seems to step up against teams with more “rugged” interiors like San Antonio’s. He only played expanded minutes in one of the two meetings between the teams this year and managed eight points, seven rebounds and three assists in 24 minutes.
Wayne Ellington – SF – MIA vs. CHA – ($3,600) – The Heat got a pair of nice games from Ellington in their home-and-home sweep of the Cavs. On Monday, Miami didn’t have Tyler Johnson or James Johnson which resulted in 32 minutes of time for Ellington in which he knocked down a handful of three-pointers and finished with 18 points and 31.5 DKFP.
Ellington has at least 19 DKFP in four straight games scoring 12+ points in each of those contests. He will be in line for a heavy workload against Charlotte tonight if Johnson and Johnson are again sidelined which lowers his risk factor (both questionable as of this morning). I think he’s a solid play either way, but he becomes an even better option if he’s lined up to log 30+ minutes.
Jamal Crawford – SG – LAC @ MIN – ($3,900) – Crawford’s playing time has been on the rise the last few games for the Clippers, and he appears to have shaken off a bad stretch coming out of the All-Star break. In his last two games, the veteran is averaging 22.0 points with 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals while posting 34.5 and 31.25 DKFP. Crawford is extremely streaky, but he looks like he’s getting rolling for the Clippers at a good time as they try to gear up for the playoffs with a healthy Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. As the Clippers take on the T-Wolves in Minnesota, Crawford is a boom-or-bust play who comes in on a nice hot streak.
