We have only four games going in the night slate for baseball. I’ll get you ready, and, as always, you can get me on the ol’ Twitter machine @SBuchanan24.
CHC (-194) vs STL– John Lackey – Lackey and the Cubs are the easy favorites for tonight in my opinion. Lackey has been fantastic at home this season. Coming into this start, Lackey owns a 2.67 ERA with a .265 wOBA and a .338 SLG. The Cardinals continue to play what feels like musical chairs with their lineups as injuries continue to pile up. Just this past week alone, the Cardinals have lost Matt Holliday and now Matt Adams. So Lackey has a good matchup ahead of him.
SEA vs. OAK – 8.5 runs – Seattle at Oakland has the highest projected run total of the night at 8.5 runs with Wade LeBlanc and Zach Neal taking the mound. Both of these pitchers haven’t been doing much to impress on the mound, as they both have a combined eight starts under their belt this season. Neal has seen this Seattle team once already this season in a horrific start he made. Neal went four innings allowing seven runs on eight hits while registering just one strikeout. With LeBlanc, he’s having the majority of his troubles against righties, allowing a .374 wOBA with a .559 SLG with seven of his nine home runs allowed.
No weather concerns for tonight!
Park Factors are rated on a scale of 1.000. Anything at or above 1.000 favors hitters, anything below it favors pitchers.
- AT&T Park – BAL vs SFG I would hardly call AT&T Park a favorable ballpark for tonight, but that’s what happens when you have four parks tonight that rank 20th or below. Nonetheless, AT&T Park has favorable ratings (and just barely) in doubles, triples and walks.
- Oakland Coliseum – SEA vs OAK – The Oakland Coliseum will be the worst ballpark of the bunch for this slate. Coming into tonight, only triples are favored here.
Splits to Start
Pitchers vs. Left Handed Batters
|Worst vs LHB||OPS||AVG||Best vs LHB||OPS||AVG|
|Chad Kuhl||.924||.327||Johnny Cueto||.685||.259|
|Wade LeBlanc||.764||.229||Wade Miley||.707||.250|
|Mike Leake||.762||.267||John Lackey||.715||.250|
Pitchers vs. Right Handed Batters
|Worst vs RHB||OPS||AVG||Best vs RHB||OPS||AVG|
|Wade LeBlanc||.889||.288||Chad Kuhl||.513||.192|
|Wade Miley||.814||.285||Johnny Cueto||.582||.217|
|Mike Leake||.760||.295||John Lackey||.603||.195|
Batter vs. Pitcher Splits
|Chris Coghlan||Mike Leake||16||3.37|
|Buster Posey||Wade Miley||25||2.24|
|Anthony Rizzo||Mike Leake||32||2.09|
- Our BvP options were short obviously, so Chris Coghlan, who isn’t even drawing a start everyday, has crushed Mike Leake. Coghlan is 10-16 with three doubles, two home runs and two RBIs.
- Buster Posey checks in next taking on Wade Miley. Posey is 9-25 with three doubles, a home run and six RBIs.
- Finally, we have Anthony Rizzo taking on Leake. Rizzo has gone 10-32 with two doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and three walks.
Pitcher to Build Around
John Lackey – CHC vs STL – $10,900 – Cuteo has been shaky since the All-Star break, Miley is an ok choice at SFG, but I still don’t fully trust him. Then we have the rest of the choices and boy is it ugly. Lackey is the essential lock for me tonight against the beat up Cardinals team. As I mentioned above, Lackey owns a 2.67 ERA with a .265 wOBA and a .338 SLG.
Heavy Hitter to Pay For
Corey Seager – LAD vs. PIT (Chad Kuhl) – $4,900 – Corey Seager at home against Chad Kuhl should be one of the top options for tonight. In his limited time up in the majors, Kuhl is allowing a .395 wOBA against lefties with a .510 SLG. If that’s not good enough for you, Seager owns a .424 wOBA against righties at home with a .616 SLG and a 1.011 OPS.
Save Big by Drafting…
Joe Panik – SFG vs. BAL (Wade Miley) – $2,700 – Panik has hit left-handed pitchers fairly well at home this season, which brings us some much needed value on a slate like tonight. Panik owns a .331 wOBA against lefties at home while Miley allows a .323 wOBA on the road against lefties. It’s certainly not the greatest matchup, but the price is certainly right for Panik here.
