WATCH:FINDING CONTRARIAN VALUE ON THE HILL

The Tigers and White Sox are the only teams absent from tonight’s 28-team fantasy baseball contest on DraftKings. With most teams starting up a new series for the weekend there are some interesting matchups to check out and players to consider. If you find yourself in need of a cheap option on your roster, check out my top plays from the Bargain Bin.

Pitchers

Dan Straily – MIA vs. LAA – $7,500

Straily hasn’t been able to go deep into games this season, but he does offer a good strikeout rate and usually limits opponents’ hits. He has held opponents to a .164 batting average this season but has a 3.70 ERA since he has allowed six homers. He has been especially dominant at home where he is 1-1 with a 1.95 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 27.2 innings. He has allowed just 11 hits in those five starts giving his opponents a meager .121 average against him at Marlins Park.

Tonight, Straily and the Marlins host game one of their series against the Angels. LA has scored the fourth-fewest runs-per-game in the Major Leagues. If he can continue his good form at home, Straily will make a great value option on the mound against them tonight. He’ll be going for his fourth straight start with over 15 DKFP.

Zack Godley – ARI @ MIL – $6,300

Godley had one rough inning his last time out which cost him his first loss of the season. He allowed three runs on eight hits over seven innings in San Diego but only managed 6.4 DKFP since he struck out only one batter. In his previous two starts, he had finished with 23.4 DKFP and 26.8 DKFP against the Tigers and Mets while striking out 13 in 13.2 innings.

He’ll look to return to his strikeout form of those two starts as he faces the Brewers tonight. Only the Rays strike out more often than Milwaukee who averages 9.28 strikeouts per game. Godley will try to follow the pattern of success started by Robbie Ray last night who threw seven shutout innings. Even though the Brewers have some power, Godley has a very high ceiling making him a very attractive way to save some salary in one of your roster spots on the mound tonight.

Hitters

Matt Adams – 1B/OF – ATL @ SF – $3,300

Adams seems to have benefitted from the change of scenery after being traded from St. Louis to Atlanta, and he has posted at least seven DKFP in four straight games. He is 7-18 (.389) curing that stretch with two doubles, a triple and a pair of home runs.

For as long as Freddie Freeman is sidelined, Adams will continue to play 1B on a daily basis and hit in the middle of the Atlanta order in a good place to produce runs. Tonight, he’ll face Giants’ veteran Matt Cain as the Braves visit the city by the bay. Adams is 2-5 with a double and three RBI in his career off of Cain who has pitched well at home this year but really struggled badly in his last few starts. He has an 8.41 ERA in four starts in May and he has let lefties like Adams hit .308 against him this season with a .867 OPS. At this price and in this matchup, Adams is a great fit either at 1B or in one of your OF spots.

Chris Taylor – 2B – LAD vs. CHC – $3,400

Staying in the late games from the Left Coast, another option to consider is Dodgers’ super-utility man Chris Taylor. Taylor has started in CF the last two games for LA with Logan Forsythe back but Joc Pederson out with a concussion. Taylor hit leadoff last night and went 3-4 with a double, a run scored and RBI.

On the season, he is now hitting .344 with a 1.026 OPS. He is 13-29 (.448) in his last 10 games with a 1.322 OPS resulting from four doubles, five walks and a pair of home runs. Tonight as the Dodgers take on Jake Arrieta and the Cubs, Taylor will be a great play if he hits leadoff again, and he’s even worth a look if he’s lower in the lineup given his current form.

Grégor Blanco – OF – ARI vs. MIL – $3,200

Another outfield fill-in to check out from his leadoff spot is the D-Backs’ Grégor Blanco who hit his first homer of the season last night while going 3-4 to help Arizona to a 4-0 win. Blanco has hit safely in six of his last seven starts while going 10-32 (.313) with a .771 OPS, six runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.

Tonight, Arizona will face Júnior Guerra in his return from the DL, and they should be able to put up good numbers at Miller Park. If Blanco is in the leadoff spot again his on-base ability, run scoring potential and speed make him a good cheap OF play.
