Fantasy Baseball Stacks: Nationals, Angels Among Tonight's Top Options

Here are my top-five stacks for Thursday evening’s eight-game main slate.

The Angels have been a letdown on their trip to Chicago thus far, but they’re my top stack tonight, projected for 5.5 runs against the White Sox. The determining factor is simply that Dylan Covey on the mound for Chicago, boasting a 7.83 ERA and surrendering 19 home runs in just 64 1/3 innings this season. I expect both sides of the plate to tee off against Covey, particularly RHB, which plays to LAA’s strength.

Players to Consider

  • Mike Trout ($5,700)
  • Justin Upton ($4,900)
  • Albert Pujols ($3,600)
  • Brandon Phillips ($4,100)
  • Andrelton Simmons ($4,000)
  • Kole Calhoun ($4,000)

The Nats play host to the Pirates this evening, going up against Ivan Nova, a pitcher whom they’ve been successful against in the past. Nova has yet to face Washington this season; however, current Nationals’ bats hit .362 against him in 127 at-bats, including 16 extra-base hits (seven bombs). Matt Wieters makes for a great value play at catcher, going 13-for-39 with three doubles and four homers in his career against Nova.

Players to Consider

  • Matt Wieters ($3,200)
  • Trea Turner ($5,100)
  • Bryce Harper ($5,400)
  • Daniel Murphy ($4,700)
  • Ryan Zimmerman ($4,500)
  • Anthony Rendon ($4,700)

While the A’s might be projected for more runs in Arlington, I feel the home team actually has the better matchup against Sean Manaea. The LHP has made a pair of starts against the Rangers this season, with Texas scoring eight runs in 10 1/3 innings. Projected for 5.2 runs, RHB on Texas are what to target, with Manaea giving up 16 of his 18 homers to righties.

Players to Consider

  • Delino DeShields ($3,900)
  • Shin-Soo Choo ($4,000)
  • Elvis Andrus ($4,100)
  • Nomar Mazara ($4,200)
  • Joey Gallo ($4,000)
  • Robinson Chirinos ($2,800)

The Yankees continue to host the Rays on Thursday, this time facing Jacob Faria. The rookie is having a solid season for Tampa Bay but had one of his worst outings of the year against these Yankees previously. With reverse splits, look for the power RHB of New York to take advantage and live up to the five-run projection.

Players to Consider

  • Brett Gardner ($4,100)
  • Aaron Judge ($5,700)
  • Gary Sanchez ($4,800)
  • Didi Gregorius ($4,500)
  • Starlin Castro ($3,800)
  • Todd Frazier ($3,500)

The Marlins are projected for just 4.6 runs at home and will face Atlanta’s ace, Julio Teheran. However, Teheran’s been a pitcher Miami has performed well against over the years. Bour, Dietrich, Ozuna and Stanton have combined to take him deep eight times in their careers, and make for good building blocks in your stack.

Players to Consider

  • Marcell Ozuna ($4,600)
  • Justin Bour ($4,500)
  • Giancarlo Stanton ($5,500)
  • Christian Yelich ($4,300)
  • Derek Dietrich ($3,800)
  • Dee Gordon ($4,200)
