Washington Nationals Ace Pitcher Max Scherzer does something strange when a teammate of his wins a game with a walkoff. He dowses them with Chocolate Syrup. Like big time. All up in the grill and what-not.

Last night First Baseman Ryan Zimmerman was the latest recipient of a face load of Scherzer’s chocolate syrup. That didn’t sound weird at all…

It’s a strange ritual that occurs without warning and usually during the “hero interview” in the postgame wrap up for the broadcast channels.

Here we have Max hitting Bryce Harper on an automatic loop. Enjoy.

A full recap of this phenomenon can be found at the Washington Post website. In that article, Scherzer explains in the article that he picked chocolate syrup because its everyone favorite ice cream topping, “you know, it tops it all off.” I agree. It does top it all off. And it makes for great copy the next morning. So Scherzer, please continue to be the nightmare of the Nationals Laundry staff, tally the K’s, and keep it weird.

Till next time, I don’t always homer, but when I do, I walk off.
