Down to the Final Hole

After 71 holes of golf, Dustin Johnson stood 13 feet away from securing his first US Open championship. After missing a potential winning putt, he looked to at least be positioned to tie Jordan Speith and force a playoff. The rest is history, and Speith was left to celebrate the victory.

And while Johnson’s miss led him to finish in second place, he still took home the second place prize of $877,144.
But no one was more relieved than Carl Bassewitz, who entered a fantasy golf team on DraftKings. His roster included Speith, but not Johnson, and he held on to win the $1 Million first place prize.

The Million Dollar Lineup

Carl Drafted 6 golfers from the US Open and entered his lineup into DraftKings fantasy golf contest on Thursday. It was his first time playing on the site, and he only submitted one team and the $20 entry fee. 4 days later, that $20 turned into $1,000,000.

Every Hole Matters

Ultimately, it came down to Dustin Johnson’s missed putt to lock down the first place finish. But his entire roster played a role in his success, including great performances from Tony Finau (tied for 14th place) and Louis Oosthuizen (tied for 2nd place). He narrowly beat out user ‘headchopper’ who would have won the $1 Million had Johnson sank the putt. The second place prize of $100,000 was a decent consolation for him, though.
