DraftKings has over $5K in guaranteed cash to hand out tonight, so let’s get right to my target for today’s games. Be sure to watch for starting lineups and pivot if necessary. As always, I will be posting starting lineups on Twitter (@DraftKicks) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff.
Sean Johnson – $4,800 –Chicago Fire – Sean John stood on his head to preserve a 3-3 draw at Philadelphia last weekend. While he did concede three times, Johnson had eight saves along the way to turn in a solid fantasy performance. I’m looking for Johnson to continue to produce against a visiting Colorado Rapids squad that has been shut out in four of their last five road games across all competitions.
Others to Consider – Evan Bush (Montreal Impact; $5,100), Joe Bendik (Toronto FC; $5,200), Bill Hamid (D.C. United; $5,000)
Joevin Jones – $4,500 – Chicago Fire – Jones is averaging six crosses over his last two games and continues to be a threat in the fire attack. With a winnable game at home, I like Jones to contribute on both sides of the ball tonight.
Ambroise Oyongo – $4,300 – Montreal Impact – Oyongo scored nine DraftKings points from crosses alone in his last outing. I expect the left back to continue to play a part in the attack, and the addition of Didier Drogba to the Impact attack gives Oyongo’s already high upside a nice bump.
Harrison Afful – $3,000 – Columbus Crew – Afful made his MLS debut midweek, putting up seven points in 60 minutes of action. The Ghanaian international was active on the wing, swinging in six crosses on the night. There is some concern about his match fitness, so keep an eye on the starting lineups before locking him in.
Others to Consider – Sean Franklin (D.C. United; $4,600), Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew; $4,200), Eric Miller (Montreal Impact; $2,800)
Federico Higuain – $9,200 – Columbus Crew – Higuain posted nine DraftKings points in the Crew’s midweek 2-2 draw with New York City FC, despite not getting on the scoresheet. The pesky playmaker contributes across the board and will be pulling the strings on Saturday against a fatigued Sporting Kansas City team that was just shellacked 5-0 by the San Jose Earthquakes.
Javier Morales – $9,100 – Real Salt Lake – Morales has two goals and three assists in his last four contests. RSL is in the thick of the MLS playoff race and needs a good performance at home tonight – look for Javi Mo to continue to pull the strings in the Salt Lake attack.
Others to Consider – Kaka (Orlando City SC; $11,000), Cristian Maidana (Philadelphia Union; $9,000), Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew; $8,300)
Kei Kamara – $11,400 – Columbus Crew – The Golden Boot race is heating up, with Kei Kamara sitting atop the leaderboard with 18 goals. The Golden Boot frontrunner now gets a date with his former team, Sporting Kansas City, who are reeling from that loss to the Earthquakes.
Sebastian Giovinco – $13,100 – Toronto FC – Giovinco has 16 goals on a league-leading 126 shots. Though he was kept in check in his last outing by the New York Red Bulls, the Italian faces an Orlando City squad that he hung a hat trick on less than two weeks ago. Find a way to squeeze the Atomic Ant into your lineups.
Others to Consider – Octavio Rivero (Vancouver Whitecaps; $9,200), Dom Dwyer (Sporting KC; $9,200)
Herculez Gomez – $3,500 – Toronto FC – The U.S. Men’s National Team veteran is back in MLS and is a good find at the midfielder position – if given the start. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him bulge the ol’ onion bag, but anyone who has followed MLS or the US MNT knows what Herc is capable of. If he’s given the start, I like his chances to score.
