Iowa @ Purdue

Game Analysis

Iowa has won 4 of it’s last 6 and tends to play over the total on today’s game. They are 3-3 on the road today and draw a tough Purdue team in their house. Purdue is 8-3 at home this season, yet they have been playing .500 ball of late with 5 unders over the last 6 games. This is neither the highest or lowest scoring game on the slate and it is expected to stay close so all the starters should see normal to extended court time and I give a slight tick up to Purdue. Purdue guard Kendall Stephens re injured his thumb last game, so that usage and minutes needs to get distributed out making for some nice value plays.

Line: Purdue -1.5, O/U 134

Players to Watch

  • Jon Octeus, G, Purdue ($6300)

Oklahoma St. @ Kansas St

Game Analysis

These two teams last faced off about a month ago on the Cowboys home turf. They switch the venue for this one, but I expect more of the same. Oklahoma St. won by 14 points (61-47) in that game and I expect it to be closer but for them to come out on top. Ok St. has won 4 of their last 7 and have alternated O/Us around the 132 level a tad above today. Kansas St. has won 4 of it’s last 6, yet routinely go below today’s total. I see this a lot like the last match up with a lower score and pace and not much fantasy goodness to go around. I disagree with Vegas on the winner, but not on whether or not it stays closer as I think it will.

Line: Kansas St. -2, O/U 127

Players to Watch

  • Nino Williams, F , Kansas St, ($5800)
  • LeBryan Nash, F, Oklahoma St. ($7700)

Kentucky @ South Carolina

Game Analysis

At first glance most wold think this spread and total seem low, but Kentucky’s strength is it’s defense as they have held some recent opponents to under 40 points. They have played under in 7 of their last 10 because of that suffocating defense and control of the glass so it’s really not much of a surprise. South Carolina has played to the over in 4 of it’s last five but none of those games were against anywhere near the athleticism they will see from the Wildcats today.

Line: Kentucky -10, O/U 126

Players to Watch

  • Michael Carera, F, South Carolina ($4200)
  • Karl Towns, F, Kentucky ($5300)

Wake Forest Clemson

Game Analysis

Wake has played 3 straight games with totals over 145 and Clemson has played 5 of 6 where they failed to reach 130. Clemson prefers the slower and lower scoring games as they have even had some that failed to reach 120. If anything I would tick down Wake players and give a slight uptick to the Clemson ones here.

Line: Clemson -4, O/U 127.5

Players to Watch

  • Codi Miller-McIntyre, G, Wake ($8200)
  • Donte Grantham, F, Clemson ($5000)

Texas A+M @ Tennessee

Game Analysis

Both teams come into this one off 3 straight wins and are averaging totals right around the number today. Neither one really gets a tick up or down from me on what is an average game for a CBB slate. It should be a good game and I would not be surprised to see the Aggies steal one here. I think a few Aggies are interesting, but nothing spectacular here.

Line: Tenn -4, O/U 123

Players to Watch

  • Kevin Punter, G, Tennessee ($4700)
  • Daniel House, G, Texas A+M ($6500)
  • Jalen Jones, G, Texas A+M ($6300)

Arkansas @ Missouri

Game Analysis

Here’s a big total and decent spread game we should look to target today. Missouri has lost four straight and played to the under of 125 in three of them. Arkansas pts up a ton of points and plays much faster, so I think that would tick up Missouri a tad and not really changed much for Arkansas as the spread here is still pretty high.

Line: Arkansas -5, O/U 149

Players to Watch

  • Michael Qualls, G, Arkansas ($7200)
  • Keith Shamburger, G, Missouri ($5700)

Florida State @ North Carolina

Game Analysis

Love the total and hate the line in this one. UNC is expected to put up 80 points so you have to look there for some stats. I think the difference here for Carolina is going to be their big guys, so I have no doubt the guards may struggle as they dump it inside. For Florida State to stay in the game their 6’4″ freshman guard is going to need to do to this team what he did to a tough Clemson defense last game. Overall I just think UNC’s bigs  are too good here. Fla St. always plays them tough though, so it could be a little closer then Vegas thinks, but I doubt it becomes a real sweat.

Line: Carolina -16.5, O/U 145.5

Players to Watch

  • Xavier Rathan-Mayes, G, Fla St. ($7200)
  • Justin Jackson, G, UNC ($5100)

Kansas @ Texas

Game Analysis

The total is mid tier but the spread means this should stay close. Two top twenty teams are squaring off in this one and as a college basketball fan it is almost must watch TV for me. I must disagree with Vegas on this one as I think KU should win by a few. I know the game is in Texas but they play at a higher pace and have been on a roll losing only to a very tough Iowa St. team in their last few games. I can’t knock anyone for taking Texas at home either though, but I’m OK with rolling a few guys out here on either side. Kansas probably gets a slight tick down against the tough Texas D, and Texas players get a slight uptick because of the higher pace.

Line: Texas -1.5, O/U 135

Players to Watch

  • Perry Ellis, F, Kansas ($7200)
  • Isiah Taylor, G, Texas ($7100)

TCU @ West Virginia

Game Analysis

Mountaineers should have no problem taking care of business at home in this one. I am recommending no one as I think WVU could pull away and leave the starters with a short workday as they had in the last game. If so, no one makes value in the starting five and I’m not playing the whack a mole with bench guys and minutes.

Line: WVU -9, O/U 136.5

Illinois @ Minnesota

Game Analysis

Another nice total to target here in what I agree should be a Minnesota win. They have been few and far between recently, but I think the level of competition was a tad higher than they will see today. They have been scoring the ball very well and playing over some low totals recently, so I expect that to continue. Not sure Illinois has the firepower to stay with them or the defense to stop them here. It’s one of the nicer totals, so definitely usable.

Line: Minn -5, O/U 142.5

Players to Watch

  • Andre Hollins, G, Minnesota ($7700)
  • Leron Black, F, Illinois ($5000)

Georgetown @ Marquette

Game Analysis

Close yet low scoring expected from these two storied programs. Georgetown won by 6 on their home floor last time in a game that saw about as many points as expected today. They are the class of the new Big East league and should prove it on the road today against a struggling opponent who has lost 4 of their last 6 after beating up on cupcakes before league play started.

Line: GTown -2.5, O/U 123.5

Players to Watch
* Matt Cardino, G, Marquette ($7200)
* Jabril Trawick, G, Georgetown ($4800)

Iowa St. @ Texas Tech

Game Analysis

The Cyclones have a very solid squad this year led by Georges Niang and Monte Morris. The prices are a little too elevated for me in this one on those guys, but if you were going to take anyone from this game it is them two. I just am not sure if they can get value or enough run to make it. If they played 35 minutes each they would, but I’m think 25-30 is all they get.

Line: -11.5, O/U 137.2

Players to Watch

  • Geroges Niang, F, Iowa St ($7600)
  • Monte Morris, G, Iowa St. ($7100)

Miami @ Syracuse

Game Analysis

Another low O/U game with a tight spread. Should be a good one to watch, but not great for fantasy purposes. Both teams have played over this number recently and I think Miami is better at scoring the ball, while Syracuse plays better defense and controls the pace. I would tick down Miami a tad on this and that makes me not love a bunch of their guys today. Cuse struggles to score so I am shying away from them all together here. I really like the Cuse bigs here but 9300 and 8000 is too much for them in my book.

Line: Cuse -1.5, O/U 128.5

Players to Watch

  • Rakeem Christmas, F, Syracuse ($9300)
    ______________________________________________________________

Michigan State @ Nebraska

Game Analysis

There should be some great guard play in this game as both teams have some solid guys in those spots. Shields, Petteway, Valentine, and Trice are all great players yet I think all are overpriced going up against each other in what is expected to be a lower scoring game. The guy I like most is Branden Dawson and mostly because I have no idea how Nebraska stops him. The Michigan St. big man has eaten up better front courts then this one and should be the deciding factor in one of the few games all year his guard combo may not be the better of the groups on the floor.

Line: MSU -4.5, O/U 122.5

Players to Watch

  • Branden Dawson, F, Michigan St. ($8400)

UCLA @ Oregon

Game Analysis

I didn’t purposely save the west coast match up for last, but it is the best target today for fantasy purposes. The highest O/U game on this slate and pits two teams who like to get up and down a little. There’s a whole bunch of solid options in this game and you can’t go wrong on either side. If you want to stack a game tomorrow this is your one. The guys in it are all expensive but you can find value if Parker is held out with back spasms for UCLA. It’s a late in the day game, so follow the news and leave a space or two open. You might be able to trade up for two of the studs here and squeeze in a value guy who has a big game to make a move and be in line to STORM THE COURT.

Line: Oregon -2, O/U 153.5

Players to Watch

  • Joseph Young, G, Oregon ($9000)
  • Bryce Alford, G, UCLA ($8000)
  • Norman Powell, G, UCLA ($7200)
  • Thomas Welsh, F, UCLA ($4100)
