Defense wins games. That statement is true in the NFL and also quite often in fantasy. If you had the Lions and their 21 points last week, odds are put up a contending score in most formats. In head-to-head matchups it might have been the key differentiator against your opponent, especially if they rolled with 1 of the 15 D/ST’s that scored 5 or less points. The bottom line is the D/ST you chose is an important decision. This week only $1,000 separates the most expensive DST’s (Arizona/Chicago) from the cheapest (Carolina). That’s the difference between Peyton Manning and Jay Cutler right now so how will you chose to allocate your budget?

You’ll have to spend $3,000+ to get a top ranked D/ST, and there are plenty of juicy options. The Chicago Bears have 12 takeaways this year and will look to add more at home against the Dolphins. The Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks are on the road but square off against rookie quarterbacks Derek Carr and Austin Davis, respectively. Looking towards the bottom of the rankings, there are a lot of top preseason ranked D/STs due to tough matchups on the road, like the San Francisco 49ers in Denver, the Kansas City Chiefs in San Diego, the Carolina Panthers in Green Bay, and the Cincinnati Bengals in Indianapolis.
