With the regular season winding down, Major League Soccer action is heating up. There are six games on the board tonight, and over $10K to be awarded in MLS contests. Most of the international players have returned from national team duty, but there are still numerous injuries and suspensions to consider when building your lineups. Look for starting lineups on Twitter (@DraftKicks) as they become available – usually an hour before kickoff. Good luck!
Jose Gonzalez – $5,400 – FC Dallas – Since being named the starting goalkeeper, Gonzalez has put in a pair of standout performances in posting consecutive clean sheet wins for FC Dallas. FCD and Gonzalez now face a New York City FC squad that is winless in four straight on the road.
Donovan Ricketts – $5,700 – LA Galaxy – If you’re simply looking to lock in the 5 point win bonus, I like Ricketts and the Galaxy to take care of business at home. The star-studded Galaxy have won four of their last five. I don’t expect a quiet night, however, with Ricketts looking to keep last weekends hat-trick hero, Didier Drogba ($8,800), off the scoresheet.
Others to Consider – Andre Blake (Philadelphia Union, $4,800), Bill Hamid (D.C. United; $4,400), Stefan Frei (Seattle Sounders; $4,500)
Harrison Afful – $4,000 – Columbus Crew – The speedy Ghanaian has six crosses in three straight games, collecting a point for each cross along the way. He’s been a handful on the wing since joining the Crew midseason and should continue to wreak havoc tonight.
Sheanon Williams – $4,600 – Houston Dynamo – Williams contributed an assist in Houston’s 2-0 win over the Vancouver Whitecaps. He now has three or more crosses in three straight and should continue to play a role in the Dynamo attack.
Drew Moor – $4,500 – Colorado Rapids – Prior to being suspended last game, Moor was averaging four crosses per game over his last five. The long time center back has taken on a new role on the wing, and has looked surprisingly dangerous with his crosses.
Others to Consider – Fabinho (Philadelphia Union; $4,900), Waylon Francis (Columbus Crew; $3,900), Sean Franklin (D.C. United; $4,300)
Javier Morales – $9,000 – Real Salt Lake – Javi Mo averaged 14 FPPG in the month of August. He contributes to all statistical categories across the board and is a double-digit threat regardless of if he scores or adds an assist.
Federico Higuain – $8,700 – Columbus Crew – Higuain was kept quiet last weekend but has been in good form as the Crew jostle for playoff positioning. Before last game, the Argentine had a 20 pt and 14 pt performance behind one goal and two assists.
Sebastian Lletget – $7,600 – LA Galaxy – “Da’ Boy” has a combined 38 points in his last two home games and has fit right in with the star power in LA. A favorable matchup with Montreal should see some goals produced tonight, and if recent form holds true – Lletget will be involved.
Others to Consider – Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo; $8,100), Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew; $8,300), Tranquillo Barnetta (Philadelphia Union; $5,500), Marco Pappa (Seattle Sounders; $6,900)
Robbie Keane – $11,300 – LA Galaxy – Reigning MLS MVP Robbie Keane has averaged 23 FPPG with six goals over his last five games. You’ll have to pay up for him, but there are plenty of budget options on the board to make room for Keano.
Kei Kamara – $11,300 – Columbus Crew – Kamara tops the MLS Golden Boot leaderboard with 18 goals on the season. Kamara was on international duty last weekend when the Crew were shellacked 3-0 to FC Dallas. Look for Columbus to lean on Kei to get them back on track.
Fabian Castillo – $9,800 – FC Dallas – Any FCD attacker is worth rostering against NYC’s porous back line. Tonight i’m targeting Fabian Castillo, who leads Dallas in all attacking categories with 9 goals, 6 assists and 64 shots on the season.
Others to Consider – Giovani dos Santos (LA Galaxy; $9,600), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes; $9,400), Clint Dempsey (Seattle Sounders; $10,300)
Michael Barrios – $5,600 – FC Dallas – Barrios has quietly put up 11+ DraftKings points in three of his last four outings. The creative midfielder has a good chance to keep his run of form going with a shoddy New York City defense coming to town.
Erick “Cubo” Torres – $5,000 – Houston Dynamo – Torres logged 66 minutes in his first start for Houston, contributing the match-winning assist en-route to an eight point outing. Cubo’s nose for the goal makes him a high-upside play, at just $5,000, if he continues to start.
