BREAKING: Mexico soccer coach Miguel Herrera is fired after claim he punched journalist. pic.twitter.com/VSdQFWXAXY— SportsCenter (@SportsCenter) July 28, 2015
Just two days after winning CONCACAF’s biggest domestic tournament for a record 7th time, the Mexican National Soccer Team was flying high. A date with the United States in the Confederations Cup playoff game on October 9th awaited for Miguel Herrera. And then … the Mexican Federation called an emergency press conference today announcing that they have fired Herrera as the team’s head coach.
Where on Earth did this come from? Well, we learned yesterday that Herrera allegedly attacked TV Azteca reporter Christian Martinoli at the Philadelphia airport following the team’s win — however: there is little to no evidence that has surfaced publicly thus far. The closest thing we’ve seen is hazy cell phone footage via Univision Deportes.
Anyways, this isn’t the first time Miguel had an incident with the media…
…but, regardless, this is stunning news to say the least … and I, for one, will miss the human GIF machine.
P.S. Not the best day for these two…
