We try to bring you some post Christmas tidings on “The Playbook”. There are lots of games to choose from so pickings are certainly not slim. Let’s get to work.

Note: There are nine games tonight at 7:00 pm or after.

This is a slate that has a features plenty of intrigue. Let’s discuss!

Sergei Bobrovsky ($8,900) – His play of the last few games suggests maybe to stay away but we can’t just help it. The overall body of work since players have returned for Columbus suggests “Officer Bob” is back. Minnesota can put lots of rubber on net and these New Years Eve games can be weird ones so keep that in mind tonight when picking players. By the way Bobrovsky has a .934 save percentage over his last 10 starts so that should keep your choice in focus.

Kari Lehtonen ($7,500) – The fun part about tonight’s slate is that you can take gambles like this one. Dallas seems to have Arizona’s number this season as they have won twice and have outscored Arizona 5-0 in the third. Also, Lehtonen has looked good in those games in crunch time. This may not be pretty as two of Arizona’s lines are clicking. This will be a test for the goalie to see if he can end 2014 on a positive note heading into a demanding 2015.

Others to consider: Frederik Andersen ($7,900), Jimmy Howard ($7,400). — Howard I would strongly consider but he probably gives up at least two or three goals to New Jersey. Still a play though.

Tyler Seguin ($9,300) – Seguin owners felt skunked on Monday night and rightfully so. Everything set up for a good points night and it does again on Wednesday night against Arizona. Just temper your expectations a bit and who knows. Everything is right on target. He shoots about four times a night and gets at least two or three quality scoring chances a night normally. Against the Rangers he had one barely. It was just an off night so start him like you normally would.

Claude Giroux ($9,000) – This is where you just have to keep starting Giroux until he cools off a few games. The Giroux-Voracek duo keeps producing at almost 1.5 points each per game. When you look at the two of them, as long as they keep firing pucks on net at a high volume, all they really need to do is get a goal or assist to come close to their totals. When the duo gets two points even, that is even better. This has been the Flyers bright spot so keep rolling this duo if you can afford their price tag. They had a rough night in Arizona. Start them anyway in Colorado because the Avalanche are a team in disarray.

Pavel Datsyuk ($5,600) – Datsyuk has points in his last four meetings with New Jersey, who comes in off a win but everyone knows Cory Schneider has given up three or more goals to Detroit in three straight. Does New Jersey really have an answer to stop guys like Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg? Not really. Consider this is being played at Joe Louis and you have the makings of a mid value play having a multiple point night. So why are you hesitating??

Others I like: Evgeni Malkin ($8,700), Eric Staal ($5,500).

Value: Gregory Campbell ($2,500), John Mitchell ($2,500).

Jakub Voracek ($7,400) – If you read above, we take Voracek even in a road tilt much like Giroux. Why not right? When you are around a 13 point clip in your last ten games, the hat must be tipped in your direction. On the season, he has 46 points in 36 games. You have to play him even on the road. When you look at Philadelphia, their power play and first line duo is pretty damn good most of the time but if they do not score…..ah crap! Add in that Colorado’s underlying numbers suggest a high scoring game tonight. We’ll see!

Johnny Gaudreau ($5,700) – We have to admit that “Johnny Hockey” is loving it up in Calgary and daily owners have been raving about him for weeks. Here at DK, he has been played more and more. This ten game stretch has been crazy with seven goals and a 30% shooting percentage but he has a few more points in the tank on this current streak. He is gradually getting close to point a game status. Either way, he is a must play against an Edmonton team who actually won a game last night.

Wayne Simmonds ($6,300) – We are throwing this one in just because you have to feel that Simmonds will be a major major thorn in Colorado’s side tonight. There is not a lot of data to go on with this but call it a hunch if you will. Jiri Hudler was almost put in this spot because of a consistently strong play up in Calgary but he will get a mention. The bottom line is he needs to start shooting more and consider Colorado loves to give up shots and net front presence, this could be a match.

Others I like: Nick Foligno ($5,500), Tomas Tatar ($5,000), Jiri Hudler ($4,800). — Hudler is definitely a play to get in there.

Value: Steve Bernier ($2,700), Daniel Winnik ($2,500).

Mark Giordano ($6,400) – With there being some really good value at defense, the choice to put Giordano here was tough but we do not shy away from this. Giordano is probably a better GPP play since you can swing a lower price for value defensemen but the “Battle Of Alberta” could be a good night for points on the Calgary side. Edmonton might have partied too hard after beating Los Angeles but they may have found something that works. Either way, Giordano is a stud number one defenseman and let’s go!

Kris Letang ($5,600) – Defense is kind of the position tonight that has more value than the center or even wings….to a point! Letang’s price dropping several hundred like it has the past few days helps just that little bit. He will be 100% ready to go tonight against Carolina and that will be much needed. He played over 28 minutes against New Jersey. If Letang does that against Carolina, you have to think at least an assist and maybe a goal is coming too.

Justin Faulk  ($4,700) – Again this is about point per dollar and ignoring the Monday stinker. Hey those things happen! The number like T.J. Brodie’s price tag is too good to pass up. There was a bit of an unexpected adjustment period as players were returning for Carolina and Jordan Staal is still not quite 100% so that could have a minimal effect on Faulk. Pittsburgh’s numbers have been off the last couple weeks due to all the injuries and this could be a good time to get Faulk back on track.

Others I like:  T.J. Brodie ($4,700), Jared Spurgeon ($4,300), Cody Franson ($4,200), Sami Vatanen ($4,100).

Value: Francois Beauchemin ($2,900), David Savard ($2,900).

Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them. Defenseman have major value in DraftKings tonight! That will allow you to afford higher priced players. We will also have a few adds and subtractions as well.

Good luck today and Happy New Year!
