We head into a medium slate Sunday with six games. It is time to get down to work because this is going to be quick. Please note that there are a lot of featured contests on Sunday. Get in them and make some money!
This will be fun! Let’s go!
Ben Bishop ($8700) – Technically Bishop is still below average if you consider the new norm for save percentage at .917. However, his last dozen starts have seen the Tampa goalie progress up to a .926 save percentage in that span. This is very encouraging as Bishop will yield at least one start and sometimes two to Andrei Vasilevskiy each week. That should keep him not only fresh down the stretch but it will keep him in good condition when he starts. That means more possible points for you.
Braden Holtby ($8100) – We will roll with this as it is a bit of a gamble. Yes I mean it. Toronto just has one of those weird performances where they surprise someone. Will it be against Washington? That is the question. Holtby is starting to play at that level again as his 35 saves suggested from the other night in a hard luck loss. Toronto is already exhausted and Washington is rested. There is too much to like here to pass this up.
Others to consider: Jonathan Quick ($9200), Michael Hutchinson? ($7400).
Steven Stamkos ($8800) – This is a good time to see Stamkos err play the center because Florida is going to be raring to go with a chance to get closer to a playoff spot. However, the sniper now has 34 goals on the year and he has over a point a game career wise against the Panthers. It does not really matter who you put with him on the ice, he just succeeds. When you combine that one timer with the hockey starts he has, the best is really yet to come.
Jeff Carter ($5600) – Let’s risk it a bit and go for the old “Get Carter!” philosophy. The center/winger has ten points in his last ten games and even though this game may crash, one has to figure the pivot will do something in this game, especially against a Winnipeg defense that has not been in a playoff race before like this. It is starting to show and this is a perfect time to use a mid range value so that more upper echelon players can be acquired.
Others I like: David Backes ($5000), Nick Bjugstad ($4200).
Value: Vernon Fiddler ($2800), Nick Spaling ($2600).
Vladimir Tarasenko ($6800) – This really is too easy and Tarasenko can still fit right in your GPP’s. Here is the thing. Why not take a shot at the back end of a back to back at this price. The Russian winger is one of the few players that hits the straight value price point. Also that Blues power play has to get it going again and this is a good thing for his owners. It is hard to keep a very good player down and that is what we are banking on here.
Nikita Kucherov ($4800) – This is a play that is a nice one. Kucherov provides solid points and has this look of being able to score possibly multiple points against Florida. Sometimes it really is kind of a hunch but also scoring chances are up again with the right winger. People keep thinking that the triplets will severely regress and then magically they bounce back enough to make one wonder. This could be a nice GPP play to help you afford Stamkos in a cross stack.
Others I like: Tyler Toffoli ($4800), Zack Kassian ($3500).
Value: Antoine Roussel ($3000), Steve Downie ($2700).
John Carlson ($7200) – Defense prices are a bit high in this case but the defenseman is worth it especially against Toronto. If you want to go further and consider Mike Green then you can. However, we are talking the Maple Leafs here and when you generate a lot of shots and blocked shots per game, it does not take much to hit value even at this kind of price. This might be more of a 50-50 play but hey let’s go out all guns blazing on this Sunday.
Dustin Byfuglien ($5300) – It is just these kind of plays that will test your mettle. Yes again we will have more options via Twitter but the Buff is good to go even in a lower scoring game if the scenario should arise. Byfuglien fires a lot of shots and is often that physical force that stirs the offense for the Jets. Do not blink and make sure the defenseman finds a way on your team. After all, his points and price make this a much easier decision than it really appears.
Others I like: Alex Pietrangelo ($5900), Aaron Ekblad ($3400).
Value: Brooks Orpik ($2800), Brayden McNabb ($2700).
Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselDFS and i’ll do my best to answer them.
Good luck tonight!
