We head into a Monday with a short slate of four games. This will be fun! Let’s go!
Jonathan Quick ($9000) – Los Angeles was not happy to lose on Saturday and especially in a game they should have easily won. Quick gave up two hard luck goals in pretty quick succession and those are rare. Nashville did out play the Kings and that had to alarm Darryl Sutter at least a bit. Quick has been hot of late and that .929 save percentage in his last ten. That is encouraging for Quick owners. Arizona can be annoying but scoring one goal a game over your last five is a sign of white flag tanking!
Others to Consider: Carey Price ($9300), Braden Holtby ($8,800) (as long as he starts)
Jeff Carter ($7000) – This will be a test for Carter as it is almost all or nothing as far as points. He is averaging only 2.5 shots per game over his last twelve but he has six goals in the last nine contests. Arizona often has trouble covering the forward and that bodes well. The key is how many goals can Los Angeles score. They possess the puck well enough but they must finish early as to not create doubt. That starts with an energized Carter.
Nicklas Backstrom ($6800) – Let’s get over that head cold and get some more points. Backstrom will be unchallenged against Buffalo. It comes down to can the scoring chances be converted. If they are, the pivot inevitably gets at least a point or two. That is the bottom line and he will likely get a couple shots in this one. Why not take a chance and spend a hair over his value on this night. After all you could do worse things here on a Monday night, right?
Others to Consider: Anze Kopitar ($6100), Nazem Kadri ($4400)
Value: Anton Lander ($3000), Kyle Chipchura ($2600)
Alex Ovechkin ($9800) – This really is fun but Ovechkin has to put the hammer down against an awful Sabres team. Washington has a habit of letting teams like this hang around for just way too long. Just let the winger roll as he is the best in the game and approaching $10,000 on DraftKings for a reason. When you get right down to it, who is the most feared winger in the NHL? It is no doubt, Alex Ovechkin. Anyone else would be uncivilized!
Marian Gaborik ($7900) – This a very high risk pick and could fall flat but it has to be taken. Gaborik loves playing teams like Arizona and it often shows. The Coyotes penalty kill has been extremely suspect lately. Everything has been to be honest. We are adding one more to recommend because of it. If Gaborik gets 4-5 DraftKings points, that is about the target we are looking for. Let us see what happens based on the projections. If it works, then that is great. If not, we explore a bit more.
Others to Consider: Phil Kessel ($8100), Brendan Gallagher ($6000), David Booth ($4100), Alex Killorn ($4000)
Value: Tom Wilson ($2700), Marcus Foligno ($2500)
Drew Doughty ($4900) – Defense prices are a bit all over the place but this is why we often try to gamble with this and see what the defenseman can do against a Arizona team that is a walking and waking disaster. Opportunity meets a hell of a defensemen and this could be a Doughty/Muzzin cheap duo stack. There is a huge potential for this type of stack and again it is iffy but hey why not take a shot at this while you can. Losers often play it too safe.
John Carlson ($7700) – Damn those inevitable jumps in price but we slot Carlson second in our recommendations based on the fact that Buffalo does have match-up problems against bigger, mobile defensemen. That shot and Washington power play is too much to pass up against the Sabres. Even if the game is low scoring, Carlson needs only a goal or assist along with his blocked shots and shots on goal to provide close to price per point value. That is the name of the game when you spend!
Others to Consider: Victor Hedman ($5400), Jake Muzzin ($5200), Oscar Kiefbom ($3500)
Value: Mike Weber ($2800), Karl Alzner ($2600)
