We head into an easy three game slate for Monday. The games after the Super Bowl could be a nice way to make a little bit of money. As for those early games, we have you covered on Twitter.
This might hurt a bit! Let’s go!
Antti Niemi ($8,900) – There should legally be a category called “He drove me to drink” and that describes what Antti Niemi owners go through far too often. He wins and normally that is the bottom line (6-3-1 in his last ten) but he surprised us with a 31 save shutout against his former team, the Chicago Blackhawks. Edmonton has been horrendous on the road but better at home. This should feed right into Niemi’s hands and his owners. This is a 1 in 6 shot so let’s roll with it.
Others to consider: Henrik Lundqvist ($9,200), Jonas Hiller ($6,900). — That is all we got. Onward!
Mikael Backlund ($4,500) – The way people look at this is scary but can be true. Backlund has one of these streaks and then unfortunately gets hurt. Everyone hopes that this is not the case. He is a center that is finally coming into his own. If he can stay healthy, The shot volume is up and therefore the production is too (five goals and five assists in his last ten). Calgary has another weapon in its arsenal and that is good going forward for not only the Flames but for the Backlund line also.
Mathieu Perreault ($4,300) – Going cheaper again so we have more options in GPP’s and such as Perreault has 11 points now in the last nine games he has finished. Perreault really just finds ways to get into positions to score and honestly this is something that teams have not figured out. He is one of those players that has a tendency to be streaky but you ride the streak until it stops. We intend to do that and watch the points keep coming.
Others I like: Joe Thornton ($6,400), Derek Stepan ($5,600), Melker Karlsson ($3,600).
Value: Anton Lander ($3,000), James Sheppard ($2,500).
Rick Nash ($8,400) – The price correction was expected after the other night but Rick Nash puts up points against the Florida Panthers and has quite a history with them to boot. Florida is allowing more and more goals over the last several weeks. This plays right into the Rangers first line and what they do. Veterans should be able to take advantage of a young team even with Roberto Luongo in net. Nash has had tons of chances even when not scoring. He just has to puck more pucks in the net.
Taylor Hall ($5,300) – Keep an eye on this but sources have mentioned that Taylor Hall should play on Monday night in San Jose. If he does, realize he is the one player San Jose seems to always have problems with at least career wise. Hall has only 29 points in 41 games but six in his last eight and has been majorly snake bitten. His shooting percentage is 8.9% on the season and at some point that has to trend upward. It just has to!
Others I like: Martin St. Louis ($4,900), Michael Frolik ($4,300), Tomas Hertl ($3,900).
Value: Jimmy Hayes ($2,900), Adam Lowry ($2,800).
Brent Burns ($6,100) – Defense prices are coming up but Burns is still pretty reasonable and San Jose faces an Edmonton team that loves to give up three goals or more like its a given. The goals have not come but he is still firing shots on net and getting an assist about every other game. All it takes is one goal and Burns should get some of his confidence back. The Oilers have had problems accounting for him on the power play a few times.
Jacob Trouba ($5,100) – Normally this would be a value pick but Trouba had such a sub-par first part of the season. Since he has come back from injury, he has been much more offensively aware. That is the key. If he keeps hitting the net and getting power play time, Trouba is going to have a chance to pile up those daily points more and more. There is a reason why his value will keep inching up. People are intrigued and slowly getting aboard the train.
Others I like: T.J. Brodie ($4,200), Dan Girardi ($3,800), Tobias Enstrom ($3,100).
Value: Kevin Klein ($2,800), Ben Chiarot ($2,500).
Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them.
Good luck today!
