We head into a huge President’s Day with eight games. Let’s get right to work!
This will be full of happy happy joy joy feeling all over…or not!
Carey Price ($9500) – This is a strictly by the numbers pick and when a player averages eight points a night on DraftKings, why stray from him at this point. Yes this may make Price more of a GPP play in most, if not all cases. However, so be it! The other thing Price gets is scoring just when it is needed most. The 2-0 shutout was as much about the Max Pacioretty line as it was about Price. That is why even in Ottawa, the Olympic gold medal winner has to start even at that price.
Others to consider: Semyon Varlamov ($8100), Jimmy Howard ($7500).
Ryan Getzlaf ($6500) – This is the safe play for most because of the price and that is going to make people feel really comfortable mostly because Getzlaf does so well at home compared to the road. Yes he has notably struggled over his past nine or ten games but injuries have slowed him down a bit. A Tampa team is coming in that has been giving up more shots and scoring chances. This is a chance for the Ducks to take advantage of a matchup for once.
Henrik Zetterberg ($6300) – That Zetterberg is still cranking out those points and 12 points in his last nine games along with seven power play points in that span is enough for us. The Chicago match-up may not be the most ideal but the center is going to get his chances and that is good enough. Detroit’s power play is quite dangerous and especially when guys like Tatar, Nyquist, and Datsyuk are supplementing what that Zetterberg guy can normally provide.
Others I like: Pavel Datsyuk ($6000), Sean Monahan($4900).
Value: Cedric Paquette ($2800), Stephen Weiss ($2700).
Max Pacioretty ($9000) – Call me crazy but I plug and play Pacioretty almost no matter the format because of his ability to just save your night or his production until it is absolutely needed. Maybe its not the best way to go but it certainly cannot hurt to try with so many dead end options out there on Wednesday night. When a player is hitting 5+ shots on net a night almost as often as Alex Ovechkin, you know he gets the second season. Ottawa should allow him quite a few chances if he plays with his usual vigor. Tomas Tatar ($5100) – The Detroit sniper is at too low of a price to pass up and was dangerous against Montreal early and often. Against Chicago, some of those shots might just go in the net. There may be better point producers out there but Tatar offers the most potential. It is not often that we see two road players with prominent spots from Detroit on here but hey, it seems like a fun thing to do. Detroit just has to let this kid fly and give him the ice time.
Others I like: Bobby Ryan ($5700), Mike Hoffman ($4500). Hoffman is crazy value.!
Value: Devante Smith-Pelly ($2900), Dale Weise ($2800). — Watch Teemu Pulkkinen (on top line)!
Drew Doughty ($5900) – Staying away from most of the really high priced guys tonight and that makes Doughty a solid play. He is just consistent and right now that will have to do. If he could just string a few more points together but that is being picky at this point. The defenseman plays all roles and excels at each one. It truly is amazing how well he plays given the fact that he logs around 30 minutes a night of late.
T.J. Brodie ($4800) – It is always good to gamble when you are on house money and Brodie is that type of player tonight. People will still flock to Mark Giordano even though he is $2700 higher. This is human nature. The game winner against Boston is hopefully a springboard to another hot stretch that the young defenseman is almost due for. Basically he becomes a very nice play against a Minnesota team that has given up six goals in their last two games while opposing defensemen have remarked at the ease in which they are rushing into the zone the last couple games.
Others I like: Andrei Markov ($5300), Torey Krug ($4600).
Value: Danny DeKeyser ($2800), Marc Methot ($2600).
Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them.
Good luck tonight!
