Stars @ Capitals

Game Analysis

This is a game that will be a bit screwy because Dallas is on its third game in four nights. That plays into Washington’s advantage immensely. Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom versus Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin in an all out offensive tug of war. Now that is what I call fun. The problem is Dallas is so banged up that it is hard to say who will show up. Would Kari Lehtonen start or do they go the backup route? Braden Holtby is the likely starter for Washington. John Carlson could have a very good night reaping the rewards from the Caps first line. There is a lot to like from Vernon Fiddler and such but the problem is a gassed Stars team versus a rested Caps team still has to be unsettling if you try to stack Seguin and Benn anyway. It might be a good idea to try and stack the Caps first line and go from there. Curtis Glencross has played pretty well so far in his short stay and looks to keep it that way. The numbers may go upward here and that benefits Washington stacks.

Money Line: Caps -180, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Tyler Seguin, C, Stars ($8600)
  • Vernon Fiddler, C, Stars ($4200)
  • Nicklas Backstrom, C, Caps ($5900)
  • John Carlson, D, Caps ($7100)

Oilers @ Blue Jackets

Game Analysis

The Oilers are crap! If anyone has ever seen those “Life Is Crap” calendars, that may describe Edmonton a little too well. There are so many possible stacks for Columbus despite the fact that they played last night as well. It could either be a really wild game or a total snooze fest. There will be no in between more than likely. My problem is Edmonton and Columbus have opposition ranks that are so hideous. You almost have to ignore some of the numbers or they will consume you. The Blue Jackets spread is only -200 because of what was mentioned above and the fact that they struggle mightily at home giving up goals. A Ryan Johansen and Nick Foligno play would be interesting then slide maybe Jack Johnson in with whomever plays in net. It does not matter what the Oilers have in net because Edmonton will be picked on by a vast majority. The best thing to do is to monitor the money and puck lines and check for movement then see what line combination may look like and then go go go!

Line: Blue Jackets -200. O/U 5.5 (This may climb more)

Players to Watch

  • Jordan Eberle, RW, Oilers ($6300)
  • Ben Scrivens?, G, Oilers ($7100)
  • Marco Dano, C, Blue Jackets ($3500)
  • Nick Foligno, LW, Blue Jackets ($5400)

Senators @ Islanders

Game Analysis

The game should be a fun one as these two teams have quite a history as far as scoring goals. When the Islanders need a lift, they go to the kid line now that Kyle Okposo and John Tavares are together again. With Anders Lee and Ryan Strome given the Brock Nelson trio, it is not a surprise they work well together. Ottawa is going to start Craig Anderson as Andrew Hammond got the start against Montreal. The power play for the Islanders will be a fun one against the Sens at times suspect penalty kill. Then the Senators may have Erik Karlsson and their top six against the Islanders penalty kill so this may go both ways. This shapes up to be a heck of a game to be quite honest. As a matter of fact, there may be some extra push as far as scoring chances. It may be a high event hockey game here. When you crunch the numbers, people must understand the Islanders are a big favorite for a reason. The Islanders can make a tired team very fatigued fast and that usually results in a pretty easy win. We will see what happens.

Line: Islanders -200 . O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Cody Cici, D, Sens ($3200)
  • Mika Zibanejad, C, Sens ($4200)
  • Anders Lee, C, Isles ($5100)
  • Johnny Boychuk, D, Isles ($5300)

Leafs @ Flames

Game Analysis

Hey the Maple Leafs and Flames battle in what could be the shot selection, take your time Olympics special. Okay, maybe not but it sounded good. At this point, the Leafs survived or is that loss by beating Buffalo 4-3 in the proverbial Period 5. Calgary just finds ways to win. They even spotted Anaheim two goals on Wednesday night then stormed to a 6-3 win. Karri Ramo made the saves he had to move and its a possibility he gets the start again. Jonathan Bernier probably will start for Toronto. This is the type of game where it will likely be a bit wide open which benefits players like James van Riemsdyk especially. Nazem Kadri well he is still in suspension land. Who knows when he will be freed at this point. God Gaudreau, Hudler, and Sean Monahan are fun to watch. They are far from boring and led all line combinations in the last week with 12 points while together. They are a stack in the making as they will face a defensive pairing that just cannot handle them. After all, it is Toronto, right?

Line: Flames -200 , O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • James van Riemsdyk, LW, Leafs ($6000)
  • Morgan Rielly, D, Leafs ($3600)
  • Johnny Gaudreau, LW, Flames ($5500)
  • Jiri Hudler, RW, Flames ($7800)

Ducks @ Wild

Game Analysis

I was looking at this and thinking just what the heck actually happens here? This may be one where I have zero clue. The numbers are all over the place and yes Frederik Andersen and Devan Dubnyk are your starters but it gets so murky. Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry are back together and just in time for the Wild who love them so much. Then you figure Zach Parise will be with Mikael Granlund and probably Jason Pominville though that could change. This is like I said a game that could turn on a dime. Did anyone think Ryan Getzlaf was going to be a non factor after that two goal start in Calgary on Wednesday night? I didn’t think so. Johnny Gaudreau and Jiri Hudler put on a show with Sean Monahan and honestly when Calgary plays like that, they are tough to beat. Anaheim’s defense was torched. Can they bounce back and make a much needed statement in Minnesota? We’ll be waiting to see how this one starts. There are likely to be fireworks.

Line: Wild -135, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Hampus Lindholm, D, Ducks ($3600)
  • Corey Perry, RW, Ducks ($6900)
  • Zach Parise, LW, Wild ($8100)
  • Devan Dubnyk , G, Wild ($8900)
