Philadelphia Flyers @ Carolina Hurricanes

Game Analysis

This is where you want to see where the collective heads as far as Carolina are at. They are a much better team than the one that got thumped in Florida by a 6-1 score on Thursday night but at the same time their goaltending is below average to be kind. It was clear that the influx of speed and the fact that Florida could just control the puck better were huge contributing factors. It really is a case where can the Flyers exploit some of the holes in the Canes’ defense while Carolina could do the same on Philadelphia’s patchwork quilt of a blue line. It is tough to guess how well the goaltenders will play as records can he thrown out the window. Top six stacks are looking awfully good in early slate formats. Now can Philadelphia step up and deliver. Also take a look at Justin Faulk and the Carolina top four defense. This could be fun especially against Philadelphia’s penalty kill which is bottom five caliber

Money Line: Canes -120, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Jakub Voracek, RW, Flyers ($6900)
  • Claude Giroux, C, Flyers ($8700)
  • Jeff Skinner, LW, Canes ($4800)
  • Eric Staal, C, Canes ($7600)

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Columbus Blue Jackets

Game Analysis

This is the third annual Sergei Bobrovsky hot finish. Now Columbus was not going to make the playoffs but their hot streak was nice to see as an indication of what could have been had they stayed healthy. Bobrovsky by the way is 11-2 in his last 13 decisions. This is one scary team that has won eight straight and scored 20 goals in their last five games. The Blue Jackets really are the hottest team in the NHL with a balanced top six and timely contributions from what feels like the entire team. As for the Penguins, Evgeni Malkin is out with a nagging injury and this game comes down to can Marc-Andre Fleury calm down his inner demons. If he can then Pittsburgh has more than just a fighter’s chance. If Columbus is allowed to control pace, then look out. The Penguins must be able to win the possession battle so they can play the way they need to.

Money Line: NL, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Scotty Hartnell, LW, Blue Jackets ($5800)
  • Ryan Johansen, C, Blue Jackets ($7700)
  • Sidney Crosby, C, Penguins ($9100)
  • Patric Hornqvist, RW, Penguins ($5800)

Vancouver Canucks @ Winnipeg Jets

Game Analysis

The game looks to be a rather in your face type of game as both teams need the two points. However, Winnipeg is being chased from several different angles in their quest for a playoff berth. It also does not help that Dustin Byfuglien will miss the next four games due to suspension. That impacts the Jets ability to produce offense and is part of the reason why the over/under moved from 5,5 to 5. The other reason is the fact that Vancouver will try to make the pace more about them than Winnipeg. Vancouver can score nearly three goals on the road and Ondrej Pavelec still worries the living daylights out of me but so does Michael Hutchinson. Do the Jets have an answer for the Sedin Twins and Radim Vrbata. This is another game where pretty good goaltending might not be worth a nod but those forward clashes are going to be so much fun to watch.

Money Line: Jets -125, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Alex Edler, D, Canucks ($4300)
  • Radim Vrbata, RW, Canucks ($7300)
  • Mark Scheifele, C, Jets ($4500)
  • Jacob Trouba, D, Jets ($4000)

Buffalo Sabres @ New York Islanders

Game Analysis

Hey, do we finally see the Islanders break out and win big against Buffalo? That is the hope for not only Islander fans, but bookies, and DFS fans! Consider that Buffalo is on the back end of a back to back and literally came inches from winning, they are not going to give in. John Tavares always seems to perform well against Buffalo and so does the Isles top six in reality so they may compromise the bottom six which will include Anders Lee at times. It all depends on how the Islanders play their lines but this is going to be a rather strong play. Buffalo counters after seeing a pretty good game from Anders Lindback and an unfortunate result. Brian Gionta and Johan Larsson performed very well again in losing efforts. Honestly, they looked better than the Islanders did. Now the keys are can Buffalo keep this close and if Buffalo starts to come back, can the Islanders stop the bleeding?

Money Line: Islanders -370, O/U 5.5  (still has room to inch upward).

Players to Watch

  • John Tavares, C, Islanders ($5600)
  • Johnny Botchuk, D, Islanders ($5400)
  • Johan Larsson, C, Sabres ($4300)
  • Brian Gionta, RW, Sabres ($8600)

Detroit Red Wings @ Minnesota Wild

Game Analysis

Two teams getting ready for the playoffs have some unfinished business. Detroit is trying to keep other teams from catching them while trying to solidify their own playoff slot. The return of Pavel Datsyuk should help a good bit but consider that the game is in Minnesota and think about how long it has been since Detroit beat Minnesota there. The Wild have been able to muck it up a bit and rely on Dubnyk with his world class goaltending. Yes the Wild have only given up eight goals in their last five contests while winning four out of five. Detroit has sputtered and that is no surprise given the fact that they are allowing over three goals a game since the trade deadline. That blown third period lead to Boston the other night was a killer. Can Jimmy Howard actually stop the bleeding and perform how Howard is used to? That remains an iffy proposition at best.

Money Line: NL, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Niklas Kronwall, D, Red Wings ($5900)
  • Pavel Datsyuk, C, Red Wings ($5200)
  • Zach Parise, LW, Wild ($8300)
  • Devan Dubnyk , G, Wild ($9000)

New Jersey Devils @ New York Rangers

Game Analysis

This game has potential to be a Rangers runaway. Let’s be honest! The Devils are playing out the string and no amount of optional practices or rest will change the fact that they come off a tough game against Montreal last night where they won but played almost lifeless for long stretches. That can never happen against a Ranger team that they really do not match up well against. Rick Nash thrives against New Jersey and really there are a host of characters that can be stacked. Cory Schneider is likely to get little support. This is not like early in the season where the Devils could score some goals at least. The PDO wave does not look like it will rear its head against New York. Having the last line change against a tired team only bolsters this New York pick and makes stacks fortified. It also gives a good recommend to Henrik Lundqvist, who beats the Devils regularly in the regular season.

Money Line: Rangers -250, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Steve Bernier, RW, Devils ($3300)
  • Michael Cammalleri, LW, Devils ($5300)
  • Keith Yandle, D, Rangers ($5200)
  • Rick Nash, LW, Rangers ($8400)

Tampa Bay Lightning @ Florida Panthers

Game Analysis

This is a battle of unknown uncertainty. Who will wind up starting for Tampa ultimately? We believe Roberto Luongo is the probable starter for Florida but does Jon Cooper throw us a curve ball or lightning bolt here. Also, some nice mid range price options exist all over the place for this rivalry. That Jaromir Jagr line has been red hot at right around a point a game since Jagr arrived in Florida. It is not a surprise that for fantasy owners, they are very steady. The triplets have missed Tyler Johnson being 100% and even the Steven Stamkos line has been impacted some. His DraftKings price reflects that in the drop. Will Ben Bishop actually play? This is something we have to ask twice because of the tendency to give Andrei Vasilevskiy one or two starts a week. Here is a chance to tie Montreal for the division lead. Florida’s power play has actually been a hair more dangerous in the last 12-15 games over Tampa Bay’s. The Panthers penalty kill has suffered a little so that may be something Tampa has to attack.

Money Line: Bolts -125, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Brandon Pirri, C, Panthers ($5100)
  • Jonathan Huberdeau, LW, Panthers ($5000)
  • Steven Stamkos, C, Bolts ($7500)
  • Nikita Kucherov, RW, Bolts ($4800)

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins

Game Analysis

Two teams heading in opposite directions that have such storied pasts highlight this rivalry game. Boston appears finally on its way to the playoffs while Toronto is destined for that number four pick as long as they do not screw it up. The Maple Leafs were up 3-1 on Buffalo when the tank was fired up for a 4-3 loss. Toronto has the ability to actually give Boston fits in this game. The late season plummet has actually dropped the Maple Leafs’ road output to less than two goals a game (1.95). Boston, on the other hand, is 4-0-1 in their last five games and completed another comeback against Detroit this time. By all rights, they were dead to right and in a 2-0 hole before the kids rallied them one more time. If it had not been for Tuukka Rask keeping them in the game in the first place, none of that would have mattered. Will this be another “Thank You Kessel” night? Everything points to that and a Spooner-Pastrnak stack? Perhaps!

Money Line: Bruins -300, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Tyler Bozak, C, Leafs ($5000)
  • Phil Kessel, RW, Leafs ($8000)
  • Zdeno Chara, D, Bruins ($4100)
  • Patrice Bergeron, C, Bruins ($5600)

Washington Capitals @ Ottawa Senators

Game Analysis

Hey, so Ottawa needs to keep on winning. They are three points behind Boston and the Bruins have a game at home against Toronto, a team Ottawa has lost to. The matter at hand is a dangerous Washington team with Alexander Ovechkin. Can Andrew Hammond and company handle that? Ottawa has hit that feared wall with only nine goals in the last five games and a .500 record in that span. Washington has won four of five while scoring nearly four goals a contest. Ovechkin from the left slot has become a broken record over the last to week to ten days. Can the Senators slow that down or stop it? The left winger has three power play goals and seven overall in the last nine games. Even Joel Ward has been put on the top line and that has created space for Ovechkin. Yes, the Capitals are allowing almost three goals a game but can Ottawa exploit that. This is what makes this game so interesting. The over looks in peril as the Senators even strength play can be Washington level at times.

Money Line: Senators -115, O/U 5.5 (This one might just tip!)

Players to Watch

  • Kyle Turris, C, Sens ($5500)
  • Erik Karlsson, D, Sens ($7800)
  • Joel Ward, RW, Caps ($4100)
  • Alex Ovechkin, LW, Caps ($9500)

Dallas Stars @ Nashville Predators

Game Analysis

It is one of these clashes where if the over/under was 6.5, people would understand. Again, the Stars come off a performance where they scored five goals and lost. They gave up seven goals on 21 shots in the process. Now that Dallas is 3-3 in their last six and finally out of a playoff spot, the play for pride begins. Nashville meanwhile has the division and maybe conference to ponder. The division is a bit more likely but the Predators have somewhat righted the ship going 3-1-1 in their last five. However, Pekka Rinne is still giving up around three goals a game lately. He must play better especially against a very dangerous Dallas team with zero to lose. Tyler Seguin and Jaime Benn almost wrecked St. Louis. It was an awe inspiring display. Will Shea Weber and James Neal play? Something tells me to expect both in the lineup. Just wait for confirmation as always.

Money Line: NL, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Tyler Seguin, C, Stars ($9000)
  • Alex Goligoski, D, Stars ($4400)
  • Filip Forsberg, RW, Preds ($5200)
  • Pekka Rinne, G, Preds ($8700)

San Jose Sharks @ Arizona Coyotes

Game Analysis

Could the back end of the home and home actually be more ugly for Arizona? The answer may just be yes. Arizona scores less than two goals a game at home. That 1.79 goals per game at home is 30th in the league by the way (below Buffalo too). They give up almost 3.25 goals per game too. Also, San Jose is probably a playoff caliber road trip as they play better away from home. Combine all this with the Vegas line that may go a little more upward and it is no wonder why the Sharks may have a couple stacks DFS users wind up utilizing. The Double Joe stack with Brent Burns might be expensive but potentially effective in this one. Again, San Jose is just too much for Arizona to handle. People know it and the game in San Jose on Friday exemplified that. Arizona was thoroughly outplayed in the first 40 especially. Do not be shocked if it happens again.

Money Line: Sharks -230, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Logan Couture, C, Sharks ($8600)
  • Brent Burns, D, Sharks ($7100)
  • Shane Doan, RW, Coyotes ($4100)
  • Mike Smith, G, Coyotes ($7100)

Colorado Avalanche @ Los Angeles Kings

Game Analysis

It is the type of scenario that serves it right up for Los Angeles. Colorado comes in after defeating Anaheim on the road. They feel good about themselves even though the Avalanche are playing out the string. Their top players are faring pretty well and they even survived an uneven performance at times by Reto Berra. Now Semyon Varlamov who gets a little rusty may be too rested as Jonathan Quick and the Kings continue their drive for the playoffs where every game is a must win. Los Angeles scored eight times against Edmonton and was up 3-0 before the 10:00 mark of the first. Matt Duchene is the daily player to watch here as he has racked up nearly 50 DraftKings points over the last ten games. It is a shame it took this long but hey daily owners are happy now at least. Kings stacks will be used quite a bit based on what we saw against Edmonton.

Money Line: Kings -290, O/U 5

Players to Watch

  • Anze Kopitar, C, Kings ($5600)
  • Tyler Toffoli, RW, Kings ($4800)
  • Jarome Iginla, RW, Avs ($5800)
  • Semyon Varlamov?, G, Avs ($8200)

Calgary Flames @ Edmonton Oilers

Game Analysis

The final game of the night is going to be fun as we see what Edmonton is made of after getting pummeled by Los Angeles to the tune of 8-2. It was embarrassing in so many ways for the Oilers but literally Richard Bachman can not get back any sooner. No one would have said that at the beginning of the season or even last month. However, the Oilers team defense cannot be trusted at all. Calgary is what they are. They are going to be entertaining but the rotating band of goalies can lead to some crooked numbers on their end as well. This could be a higher paced game than most expect to close out the slate and it could lead to many scoring options that most do not see. Pick through each lineup because the moderately priced options are through the roof. Calgary should win this one but it could very well be quite close. It should be a passionate “Battle Of Alberta”. Also, the over might be one to take as well simply because of the top six scoring potential on each side. That will be leaned on in this tilt.

Money Line: Flames -175, O/U 5.5

Players to Watch

  • Sean Monahan, C, Flames ($5300)
  • Dennis Wideman, D, Flames ($5300)
  • Jordan Eberle, RW, Oilers ($5600)
  • Richard Bachman?, G, Oilers ($6700)
