We continue to try to bring you some early 2015 winnings here on the playbook. This is, in reality, a mid slate as you can see below.

Note: There are just five games tonight at 7:00 pm ET or after.

This is a fun slate. Let’s discuss!

Jaroslav Halak ($8,700) – This may be risky but the Islanders do play more like a Western Conference team with enough physicality but even more scoring power. When their defense is right, Halak is that much more effective. In crunch time, the goalie has eight wins in overtime or shootout and that leads the league. Starting a goalie in Edmonton used to be considered crazy talk but it definitely is not anymore. What will the Islanders look like today? This will be telling.

Corey Crawford ($7,700) – The fun thing is playing against Dallas will not be easy like it was in November. Dallas has become a more consistent team in the past month or so. Crawford will have to be on his A-game if he expects to come out of this with a W. The late games are a strange animal tonight. Chicago is going to be an angry sort after how they lost the Winter Classic and rightfully so. This is a gamble play but there are lots of them this evening.

Others to consider: Frederik Andersen ($8,400), Robin Lehner ($7,300). — Nashville and Anaheim have a history so be careful here but Lehner might be an interesting add. Check the beat writers to make sure Lehner is confirmed later.

Tyler Seguin ($9,000) – Seguin simply punched the clock in last night and wound up with seven shots, a goal, and an assist in a lopsided win. Tonight will be much harder and an uneasy start. Reality dictates that you have to play the center no matter the opponent or circumstance.

Jonathan Toews ($5,700) – This is where having Toews could pay off tonight. Stepping down a few rungs in value never hurts on a Sunday slate. Consistency is always good but as improved as Dallas is, Chicago usually takes care of business after a loss. “Captain Serious” will be ready to go tonight and will be up against Seguin a good bit. Advantage Toews? Yes.

Others I like: John Tavares ($8,500), Steven Stamkos ($7,700), Brad Richards ($4,700).

Value: Brian Boyle ($2,700), Marcus Kruger ($2,600).

Bobby Ryan ($6,400) – A few multiple point games get the fantasy fires burning. In the case of Ryan, his overtime goal yesterday against Boston was all about that extra gear everyone knew he had but just was not seen enough. Ryan’s six goals in his last ten games is too good to overlook. This is go time for the winger as he tries to help Ottawa climb back into the playoff race.

Corey Perry ($6,100) – The value is too damn low. While his price has been knocked down, it is time for Perry to strike back. He is one of those players who you love to have when he is rolling. Do not be discouraged but Nashville should light the fire in Perry. It always has so get him in your lineup as soon as possible. This is a great buy low candidate tonight.

Others I like: Patrick Kane ($8,700), Kyle Okposo ($6,700), Nick Foligno ($5,600). — Okposo is part of a bigger play with his too low shooting percentage.

Value: Brett Ritchie ($2,800), Ben Smith ($2,500).

Erik Karlsson ($7,000) – Defense is a fun position tonight because of Ottawa-Tampa Bay and Nashville-Anaheim. Karlsson has mightily struggled on the goal scoring front but the shots still come and the six assists in the last couple weeks has been helpful along with better defensive play. Maybe the goals happen tonight or at the least a multiple point night.

Roman Josi ($5,900) – If you want to spend $7,500 on Shea Weber go right ahead but those wacky Nashville-Anaheim games are always something to behold. The Predators already played a crazy one in Los Angeles (7-6 win) on Saturday and Josi has ten points in his last ten games. His daily points are around five a night in that span. Is this a bit like the T.J. Brodie – Mark Giordano duo at times? Naturally.

Others I like: Erik Johnson ($5,400), Sami Vatanen ($4,200), Kevin Connauton ($3,200).

Value: Francois Beauchemin ($3,000), John Klingberg ($2,800).

Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them. Defenseman have major value in DraftKings tonight! That will allow you to afford higher priced players. We will also have a few adds and subtractions as well.

Good luck today!
