The week rolls on and I am ready for more daily picks here on “The Playbook”. There are three games to choose from on this day. Let’s go!
This is a slate that has a features some ugly and some good. Let’s discuss!
Jaroslav Halak ($8,300) – It won’t be an easy night but the Islanders goaltender plays a New Jersey team that has lost its way. The Devils are a bit dangerous but with Tampa playing Pittsburgh, that is a game to stay far away from. Halak is 8-2 in his last ten games and has beaten New Jersey twice already this season. A team can only button it up so much when they know they have offensive and defensive malfunctions galore. Halak should be able to feast on that.
Others to consider: Jhonas Enroth ($8,800). — we thought about Craig Anderson but that .904 save percentage in his last ten made us pass.
Brock Nelson ($5,000) – It is another night where going a little lower could pay off as much as paying through the nose. New Jersey could keep this close but they also could give up several goals to the Islanders. The beauty is trying to guess but Brock Nelson is a pretty safe bet even with the “slump” he has endured lately (five points in his last ten games). Eight power play goals is too good to pass up and so are his 24 points in 30 games.
Zemgus Girgensons ($3,900) – We always like to take some risks way off from the norm. On short slate nights, you do have to take a few more shots in the dark than one normally would. There is probably no one that thinks Girgensons is worthy of a spot here but consider Ottawa’s propensity to give up shots and scoring chances along with the first line in Buffalo playing some really good hockey. This is not as bad of a pick as it may look to some.
*Others I like: Evgeni Malkin ($9,000), Tyler Johnson ($7,200), Adam Henrique ($4,800).
Value: Scott Gomez ($2,900), Brian Boyle ($2,800).
Kyle Okposo ($7,700) – The fun is that Okposo still does not quite get the respect he deserves but he does cause some match-up nightmares against a New Jersey team again battling injuries, the mumps, and themselves. If there is a concern with the right winger, it is that he only has seven goals on the year. At some point, expect the goals to start coming. That may even be tonight.
Blake Comeau ($3,500) – His ability to avoid injuries has helped Comeau propel himself to fantasy prominence over the last few weeks with five goals in his last ten games. Playing on the top line at times does not hurt either at least while injuries and the mumps hit Pittsburgh like a bad nightmare. At least for this week, the winger is a very viable alternative without having to pay a lot as you could get a lot. That’s some bang for the buck!
Others I like: Matt Moulson ($5,700), Ryan Callahan ($5,200), Michael Grabner ($3,600).
Value: Michael Hoffman ($3,000), Brett Connolly ($2,900).
Kris Letang ($7,000) – When he is in, he is in. Letang torched DraftKings with a 9.7 DFS point performance against Columbus. That gave the defenseman 21 points in 24 games (two goals Saturday) on the season. He is a must play every time he takes the ice. Even with Pittsburgh banged up, it does not really matter. They will find ways to score goals. Playing Tampa Bay in theory should lend itself to points. Let’s see if theory can become fact.
Nick Leddy ($4,000) – Hey riding the wave of injuries never hurts and that is just what Leddy will be able to do with Travis Hamonic and Johnny Boychuk likely out several more weeks. There are possibilities that Leddy could elevate his point production a good bit above a half point a game since he is on the top four at times along with the first power play unit. The Islanders benefit from a pretty easy schedule and the Metropolitan Division. Leddy is a must play on this night.
Others I like: Erik Karlsson ($7,200), Tyler Myers ($4,000).
Value: Anton Stralman ($2,900), Jon Merrill ($2,600).
Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them. We will also have a few adds and subtractions as well.
Good luck today!
