We head into a very strange Monday. There are only three games tonight so the playbook is a little short. Do not worry, we will have more on Twitter as news breaks.

Goalie

This could be nuts! Let’s go!

Braden Holtby ($7,700) – Holby will be making his 25th consecutive appearance and shows no signs of slowing down for a Washington team that just keeps on rolling. Though he seems to almost always give up two goals a game, the goalie finds a way to win and winning is the bottom line. Buoyed by two shootouts and a few clunkers in between, the goalie is still 7-1-2 over the last 3+ weeks. There are not too many good options but the Washington goalie just seems a little better than the rest.

Others to consider: Ben Bishop ($8,000). — We have to wait on the LA game to see if Jones starts and not Quick.

Center

Nicklas Backstrom ($6,200) – Saving the big names for later tonight simply because of how the prices are set up for tonight. Backstrom has been playing well and even gets a few points after the fact on occasion (like Tuesday night). The lack of power play points in the last few weeks is a bit concerning but the even strength offense has been excellent for the center. Maybe he really can put 15 pucks in the net in 15 seconds. Either way he is a must a start.

Jeff Carter ($5,300) – Someone just has to score in Los Angeles now that Tyler Toffoli and Tanner Pearson are both out long term. Teams are going to be able to focus on the top six more and Darryl Sutter is going to have to play some guys more minutes than they may be accustomed to. Carter is likely one of them but he can handle the load. He did play 21 minutes plus the other night and may be doing that for awhile. His 11 points in the last ten games are a wave to ride out just a little bit longer.

Others I like: Tyler Johnson ($8,200), Tyler Bozak ($4,900).

Value: Trevor Lewis ($2,500), Jay Beagle ($2,500).

Winger

Alexander Ovechkin ($8,900) – Expect the unexpected but Ovechkin gets to feast on a Colorado team that has been better but still gives up a ton of shots and scoring chances. Ovechkin is averaging a point a game over the last dozen games and is firing 5.2 shots per game over the same time span. Basically that means he hits his price value almost every single time lately. That has to make his owners feel much better than during that at times brutal stretch in November.

Jakub Voracek ($6,200) – Who knows how long will this last? Either way, the price is right as Philadelphia often has interesting adventures against Tampa and is capable of at least scoring a couple goals. They may not win but at least Voracek stands a chance of a multiple point night as the Lightning do seem to have problems covering him and Claude Giroux. People just have to understand, especially in GPP’s….you must start Voracek and even in cash games too because of the low price.

Others I like: Nikita Kucherov ($6,100), Ryan Callahan ($4,900), Joel Ward ($3,500). — Kucherov one more time before his price jumps again!

Value: Daniel Winnik ($2,500), Alex Tanguay ($2,500).

Defence

Drew Doughty ($5,900) – Defense prices are not too bad on Monday night and Doughty has been much better of late despite playing over 30 minutes a night over what feels like the last month. Someone has to score in Los Angeles and something tells me a trade may be brewing. However, at least on Monday night, Toronto will be in town and that should inspire the Kings offense again, right? Hey, anything is possible after all!

Mike Green ($5,000) – It is one of those scenarios where Green just hits value more consistently. It may not be the outstanding seven or eight point DraftKings performances but those three, four, and five pointers mean just as much. There may be a few more players more worthy of recognition but consistency tonight is key. Besides, Green is still shooting at a decent rate along with his point a game pace of late. Also note his reduced ice time which is allowing him to rush the puck up the ice more.

Others I like: Cody Franson ($4,900), Mark Streit ($4,500).

Value:  Matt Greene ($2,700), Mark Barberio ($2,500).

Thanks for reading guys and hopefully the picks help you out. If you have any questions, fire them away at me on twitter @ChrisWasselTHW and i’ll do my best to answer them.

Good luck today!
