Happy Saturday! Here we are with an attractive 10 game slate of NHL on DraftKings. Just a quick note in case you hadn’t noticed, games lock at the usual 7pm ET tonight, excluding the early Buffalo @ San Jose matchup from our games.
Without further ado, lets get started!
I’ll say now, there is no standout safest goalie (Like Quick at home to Buffalo) for me today so i’ll be targeting ones I think have the best chance of a win and will face plenty of shots. Not all of these goalies I will mention have been confirmed, so be sure to check prior to locks.
Darcy Kuemper ($9,400) – Okay, so you have to pay for him, but Kuemper should face plenty of shots from Stamkos and company tonight. The Wild are notoriously strong at home and are the biggest favourite on the night. Kuemper has 3 shutouts in 4 games and Tampa are coming off a back to back and struggling with injuries. Even at his price I think i’ll be trying to get him in where I can tonight.
Robin Lehner ($6,900) – The Devils are coming off a tough loss to Dallas last night, their fourth in a row. They now travel to Ottawa to face the Senators who boast a 4-1-0 record so far this season. Lehner has allowed 4 goals on 80 shots so far in two starts, both wins. I can see the Senators winning this game and Lehner, at a moderate price tag, making enough saves to be a very useful play.
Others to consider: Carey Price ($8,400), Tuukka Rask ($8,100), Marc-Andre Fleury ($7,300), Mike Smith ($6,200) – that one is scary, but it is at home to Florida and he is minimum salary and as close to a strong favourite as you are going to get tonight.
John Tavares ($8,200) – A home matchup with Dallas, who are on the second night of a back to back and probably with their backup goalie in net, looks very appealing on paper for Tavares. I could see the potential for this game to be quite explosive as both teams have very talented forwards. Tavares has 11 points in the first 7 games of the season and I think he has a great chance to add to that tally tonight. With guys like Crosby and Stamkos more expensive and facing tough road match ups, i’d feel very comfortable taking the discount and going down to Tavares. Linemate Kyle Okposo at $7,500 makes for a great pairing as when one does well, the other is almost always involved.
Hennrik Zetterberg ($7,600) and Pavel Datsyuk ($5,200) pairing these two in a prime matchup against the Flyers, gives you two top quality players at an overall discount and allows you to build a very strong team around them. These two are point-per-game players when on the ice together and offer huge upside. I love both and this game in general today.
Others I like: Tyler Seguin ($9,500), Claude Giroux ($8,200), Jason Spezza ($6,500) David Krejci ($6,300), Nicklas Backstrom ($6,000).
Value: Andrew Shaw ($4,800), Brock Nelson ($4,500), Mike Ribiero ($4,500) Marcus Johansson ($4,000).
Zach Parise ($8,100) – This guy is an absolute shots machine, 31 in 5 games to be exact. Nabokov is likely in net on the second night of the back to back for Tampa Bay and I like the Wild top line to get at the Hedman-less defence of the Lightning.
Jamie Benn ($7,700) – I already said I liked this game and Benn’s linemates. A goal in each of his last 5 games kind of speaks for itself. This is not an easy matchup, though i’m glad its not Halak but Chad Johnson in net, it is on on the second night of a back to back for the Stars. That being said, the top line of Dallas may well be the best in the league right now and is as matchup proof as it gets. I give the top line a great chance of multiple goals in this game.
Jakub Voracek ($6,700) – I think this game has potential to be quite high scoring as I said previously. If the Flyers are going to get multiple goals there is a good chance that Voracek is involved along with Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds who steps up onto the top PP unit. I give all of them a good chance of multiple points tonight, Voracek having amassed 2 goals and 7 assists in 7 games so far this season.
Others I like: Alex Ovechkin ($9,100), Patrick Sharp ($7,200) Patrick Kane ($6,900), Mikkel Boedker ($6,300), Jason Pominville ($5,600).
Value: Gustav Nyquist ($5,200), Filip Forsberg ($5,100), P.A. Parenteau ($4,800), Troy Brouwer ($4,600), Justin Abdelkader ($4,500), Jiri Hudler ($3,800).
Niklas Kronwall ($5,400) – Coming off the back of an absolute monster game against the Penguins where he notched up 2 goals and an assist, I really like Kronwall to contribute again for the Red Wings tonight. He quarterbacks the power play unit and if you can afford him, he makes the perfect compliment to a Zetterberg-Datsyuk stack.
Nick Leddy ($4,600) – He is rapidly catching up with Boychuk on price, though for now, still saves you $400. Either one of these two is a great play. The change of scenery has done wonders for both who are contributing in a big way offensively amassing 11 points between them. In what has the potential for a high scoring game with 2 backup goalies, taking the offensive defensemen is one of my favourite ways to get exposure to it, without necessarily stacking the expensive forwards.
Damon Severson ($3,600) – I watched my first Devils game of the season last night when they faced Dallas and this guy really caught my eye. He had 5 shots in the game but I can tell you he had probably 5-6 more which missed the net. He seems to be a shoot-first ask questions later kind of defensemen when the puck comes back to him at the blue line. I’ll take my chances with him in almost any matchup at his current price, I don’t expect him to stay sub-$4k for long.
Others I like: John Carlson ($6,100), Mark Giordano ($5,500), Mark Streit ($5,500), Alex Pietrangelo ($4,900), Jason Garrison ($4,200).
Value: Anton Stralman ($3,500), Aaron Ekblad ($3,100), Nick Schultz ($3,000), Danny DeKeyser ($2,500).
