Stud Goalies (to avoid playing skaters against)
Carey Price ($8,500): It’s hard to pick against Price on any night. The Canadiens are the best team in hockey right now and Price is the primary reason. He’s only surrendered nine goals on the season in seven starts and is currently sporting an incredible .961 SV% and 1.29 GAA. I don’t normally pay a high price for goaltending unless it is a great matchup and this is one of those times to pay the premium with the Habs playing the Canucks who are tied for 18th in the league in scoring.
Top Line of the Night
Tomas Plekanec ($6,000) – Max Pacioretty ($7,700) – Brendan Gallagher ($5,400)
More Canadiens I know, but this line boasts the three highest scoring forwards for the Canadiens and is only getting better. Gallagher has managed at least a point in four consecutive games, while Plekanec has one-upped him with points in five straight. Pacioretty has points in only his last three contests, but is currently leading the Habs in goals, points, SOG and multi-point games (4).
Top Upside and Value at Defense
Victor Hedman ($4,900): Hedman is currently leading the Lightning in points on the season with nine assists. He is effectively running the blueline point both at even strength and on the Bolts top power-play unit (2 PPP), as well as chipping in 11 SOG and 12 blocked shots on the season. An up-tempo and potentially high-scoring contest with the Blues looms on Tuesday so find a way to fit Hedman into your lineup.
Colton Parayko ($3,100): Pure happenstance that the two defensemen here are playing against each other on Tuesday night, but Parayko is a great value buy against Tampa. Parayko currently leads all Blues defensemen in goals, points, shots on goal (3rd on Blues) and is tied for the team lead in power-play points with two. He is not afraid to shoot, 19 SOG in eight games, and is getting plenty of even strength and power-play chances.
Best Superstar to Build Lineups Around
Zach Parise ($8,000): There are about four or five legitimate players that could be put here but I’m riding Parise against the Oilers on Tuesday. He’ll save you a little bit over Seguin to repurpose elsewhere and he’ll provide you the stats right on par. He is leading the Wild team in goals (7) and points, has 30 SOG so far this year and has chipped in four points on the man advantage. Roll Parise on Tuesday.
Best Value Plays to Fill out your lineup with
Boone Jenner ($3,900): On a team that boasts a top line of Johansen, Foligno and Saad, it is actually Jenner who is the goal-scorer of the group. Columbus has massively underachieved to date this season which led to the ouster of Todd Richards behind the bench, but Jenner has looked strong with five goals and 21 shots through the team’s first nine games. And Jenner is doing this in a third-line role, which makes him a solid value play for Tuesday against the Devils so take advantage of his affordability.
Mikko Koivu ($4,400): Koivu has points in six straight games for the Wild. Playing on Minnesota’s second line, Koivu has carved out a great role on this team playing in the Wild’s top-six and centering the team’s top power-play unit. A favorable contest against Edmonton on Tuesday looms for Minnesota, so plug Koivu in as a solid value play.
Ryan Johansen ($5,800) Monitor his status on Tuesday before game time, but right now Johansen is listed as day-to-day with an illness. If he is healthy he’s a good play against New Jersey.
Aleksander Barkov ($5,400) Barkov is a significant loss for the Panthers, centering the team’s top line with Jaromir Jagr ($5,700) and Jonathan Huberdeau ($5,500). He’ll be on the shelf for a few weeks with a wrist injury, so target Nick Bjugstad ($5,900) in his place.
