Top Lines of the Night
Washington Capitals vs San Jose
Alex Ovechkin ($8,400) – Nick Backstrom ($6,000) – T.J. Oshie ($5,500)
The Caps re-formed this line, and it has been great so far. Ovie has multi-point games in his last two outings and assisted on Oshie’s first goal on Saturday against the Panthers. He also has 14 shots in those games. Oshie has three goals in his last two, giving him six on the year, and is coming off his best game with two tallies against the Panthers. Backstrom is his regular assisting self, with five assists and a goal in his last five games. The trio has a tough matchup tonight against the Sharks; however, San Jose is riding a three-game losing streak that has seen them allow 11 goals against.
Winnipeg Jets vs Dallas
Mark Scheifele ($7,000) – Patrik Laine ($6,600) – Nikolaj Ehlers ($4,300)
It might be Blake Wheeler here instead of Laine, but this trio played a majority of the Rangers game together and the three are with Wheeler on the first power play (PP) unit. Scheifele is having a great start to his season, backing up his finish to last year. He has points in three of his last four, and is riding a two-game, multi-point streak at the moment. Laine has scored in two straight, including a beautiful redirection against the Rangers. Ehlers has been solid since joining the top line and has five points in his last two outings. The Jets face the Stars tonight in what could be a high-scoring affair with both teams ranking in the bottom-six in the league in scoring defense.
Superstar to Build Around
Sidney Crosby ($7,800) – Crosby is on an absolute tear since his return and has picked up right where he left off last year. He has points in all six of his games this season with four of his six outings being multi-point games. He is tied for the league-lead in goals with eight and has 10 points overall. Even though the Oilers are improved, I think Crosby should be considered for your lineup no matter the opponent at this point.
Value on Offense
Tyler Bozak ($4,100) – Bozak is centering a very underrated line that could really start to produce for the Leafs. He is in the middle of Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk, and the trio make up three of the five leading scorers for Toronto. Bozak has four points and seven shots on goal (SOG) in his last two games and faces the Kings tonight.
Kevin Hayes ($4,100) – Hayes had a great week for the Rangers scoring in all four of the teams’ games and garnering Third Star of the week honors. He led the league in scoring last week with four goals and six points. He now has 12 points in 13 games for the Rangers potent, league-leading offense.
Matt Murray ($7,700) – Murray is staking his claim to the Penguins starting job after two phenomenal outings to start his year. In two games against the Sharks and Ducks he has allowed a single goal on 65 shots faced. He blanked the Sharks over the weekend and returns home to face the Oilers tonight. He is a great price and looks as sharp as he did at any point last season.
Calvin Pickard ($7,400) – Pickard is a very intriguing start tonight for the Avs against the Coyotes. The start will be his fourth of the year, and his fifth appearance. So far he is 3-0-0, has posted one shutout and beat this Coyotes team 10 days ago in Arizona. He is an interesting start tonight going against a weak offense, and he’s at a great value price.
Value on Defense
Nick Holden ($3,300) – Holden has been a pleasant surprise for the Rangers and has come alive offensively in the last week for NY. The veteran blueliner has points in three straight games, managing a goal and three assists in his last three games of last week.
Matt Irwin ($2,500) – With as loaded as the Predators blueline is, Irwin has come out of nowhere to be an offensive cog in the last week. Playing only half the games this season, Irwin has scored a goal in three straight games despite playing only about 12 minutes per game. He put up three goals, an assist and five SOG in three games last week.
Power Play Defensemen
P.K. Subban ($6,300) – Subban has not posted the numbers that were expected, but he has produced on the PP for the Predators. He has six points on the year and five of them have come on the man advantage. The Predators have a tough matchup tonight, but their PP has been effective with Subban running the point.
Shayne Gostisbehere ($5,800) – Gostisbehere has begun to pick up his production with seven points in his last 10 games. He is coming off a great game against the Canadiens where he posted a goal and a power play assist. He has four power play points on the year. Ghost is always a solid option for shots, sitting second among defensemen in the league with 42 shots on the year.
