Top Lines of the Night
Los Angeles Kings vs San Jose
Jeff Carter ($7,000) – Tyler Toffoli ($6,100) – Tanner Pearson ($4,900)
That 70’s line is starting to look good again, and they are being led by the hot streak of Jeff Carter. Carter has turned it around in November with 14 points so far in the month, good for 10th in the league. He has 12 points in his last 10 games and has nine points in his last five. Toffoli has five points in his last five games, giving him 14 points in 22 games on the year. He had a goal in his first game against the Sharks this year.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Calgary
James van Reimsdyk ($6,300) – Mitchell Marner ($6,200) – Tyler Bozak ($4,600)
The Leafs are going to be a really exciting team in the next few years. Auston Matthews is the guy there but this line is producing right now. JVR has goals in back-to-back games and leads the team in both goals and points and is second with 64 shots on goal (SOG). Marner has been just as good, if not a little better than Matthews. He is tied with JVR with 19 points and leads the team with 12 assists. Bozak is centering this line, the Leafs’ top line at the moment, and has assists in back-to-back games. He has seven assists in his last 10 games. This line combined for the Leafs second goal last night against Edmonton and has a great matchup tonight against the Flames.
Superstar to Build Around
Sidney Crosby ($8,800) – On a limited night of action and against an opponent he has dominated in his career, Crosby should be in strong consideration for a lineup spot tonight. He continues to lead the NHL in scoring with 15 goals in 16 games. He has 20 points on the season. Crosby and the Penguins take on the Islanders tonight, and so far this season Crosby has four points in two games against the Isles. For his career, Sid has 98 points in 56 games vs the Isles, his best against any opponent.
Value on Offense
Zach Hyman ($3,700) – The forgotten man on Auston Matthews’ line for much of the year, Hyman is beginning to turn it on. He has only seven points on the year but six have come in his last nine games. He’s on a three-game point streak and looks fantastic last night with a goal and five shots against Edmonton.
Jake Guentzel ($4,000) – The rookie has been impressive and is skating on the Pens second line with Malkin and Rust. He has four points in his first four NHL games, three goals and one assist, and should continue to see opportunities to produce in the Penguins’ top-six forward rotation.
Matt Murray ($8,400) – Murray won a tough one vs the Devils his last time out and should get the nod tonight against the Islanders. Murray has won three straight games, and on the year he’s been stellar, posting a 7-1-0 record with a 1.75 goals against average (GAA). One of those wins came against the Islanders two weeks ago when he held them in check, allowing two goals in an OT win on the road in Brooklyn, where the game is again tonight.
Peter Budaj ($7,600) – Off to the best start to a season in his career, Budaj has been one of the more pleasant surprises of the season during his fill-in job for Jonathan Quick. He’s riding a five-game winning streak and has allowed more than two goals in a game only twice in his last 10 appearances. He’s tied for second in the league with 12 wins and sits in the top-10 with a 2.04 GAA.
Value on Defense
Nikita Zaitsev ($3,700) – Zaitsev has settled in well in his first year moving over from the KHL. He is playing big minutes for the Maple Leafs and is currently on their first D pairing. He has nine assists on the season and has two helpers, six SOG and five blocks in his last three games.
Nick Leddy ($4,800) – Despite being held scoreless against Calgary, Leddy had a solid game. He put four shots on goal and added two blocks for a 3.0 FPTS night. He’s starting to get more active in the Islanders offense. On the season, Leddy is averaging 3.1 FPTs per night.
Power Play Defensemen
Kris Letang ($7,100) – Letang had a goal and a power play (PP) assist in his first matchup against the Islanders earlier this season. He only has one point in his last five games, but the Islanders could be a great kick-starter for Letang. He is still running the point on the first PP unit, which ranks 10th in the league at the moment.
Alec Martinez ($5,000) – Despite not playing much on the PP, Martinez does run the point on the Kings second PP unit and has three points there this season. He’s riding a five-game point streak at the moment and has goals in back-to-back games. He’s a solid value tonight on a limited evening of action.
