Highest Vegas Totals
- New York Islanders vs. Toronto Maple Leafs – 5.5
- Nashville Predators vs. Calgary Flames – 5.5
- Anaheim Ducks vs. Colorado Avalanche – 5.5
Thomas Greiss – NYI @ TOR – $8,000: Greiss got some early work in last night, coming in to relieve injured starter Jaroslav Halak with about five minutes left in last night’s Islanders win over the Penguins. He had was tested quickly and had to make some big saves to help bring it home for NY. He will get the nod tonight between the pipes for the Isles against the Maple Leafs. Going into tonight Greiss is leading the league in SV% and has been one of the best signings of last off-season, helping to solidify the Islanders net this season on his way to an 18-6-3 record. Greiss has not lost in regulation since January 2 and has seven wins in his previous 10 outings overall. Roll the Isles net minder tonight, who could very well see the bulk of the starts going forward.
Top Line of the Night
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (vs. St. Louis Blues)
There isn’t much more that can be said about the Hawks top line that hasn’t already been said this year, especially when it comes to Kane. Kane continues to dominate the league on his way to being the front-runner for the MVP this year. He is up to 90 points on the season, a new career-high, and has 13 points in his last 10 games. Panarin, the presumed front-runner for the Calder trophy, has 11 points in his last 10 games and has two multi-point games in his last three outings (2G, 2A) with both games against the Red Wings that he had points in. Anisimov picked up points for the second time in four games against Detroit on Sunday when he too chipped in a multi-point game with a goal and an assist, both points coming courtesy of the PP. This line has been clicking and lethal all season especially against their opponent this evening, combining for eight points in three games vs the Blues.
Top Upside at Defense
Drew Doughty – LAK vs WSH – $6,300: Doughty has points in back-to-back games, goals in both, and has eight points in his last 10 games overall for the Kings. He is up to 43 points on the season so far for LA and continues to be one of the best all-around defensemen the league has to offer. He’s eighth among all d-men in goals scored on the season with 13, is top-15 in SOG with 153 and has also added 84 blocked shots on the year, all told adding up to a 3.4 FPPG average on the year. While he has a difficult matchup tonight against the Capitals Doughty did manage an assist in their prior meeting earlier this season.
“He’s eighth among all d-men in goals scored on the season with 13, is top-15 in SOG with 153 and has also added 84 blocked shots on the year…”
Nick Leddy – NYI @ TOR – $4,600: Leddy has really upped his production for the Islanders since a slow start to the season and is buzzing right now from the NY blueline. Not only does he have nine points in his last 10 games but he is riding a three-game assist streak at the moment, and has back-to-back multi-assist games against the Rangers and Penguins. Three of those four assists have come on the suddenly hot again NY power-play. Leddy and the Islanders face the Maple Leafs tonight in their final meeting of the season and in his two prior matchups this year Leddy has tallied an assist in each and has eight points in nine career games against Toronto.
Superstar to Build Lineups Around
Filip Forsberg, LW – NSH @ CGY – $6,600: I wrote about Forsberg yesterday in the Targets post and he delivered again, staying one of the hottest scorers in the league at the moment. His assists in the Predators win over the Jets pushed his point streak to three games and gave him 15 points in his last 10 outings overall. He also added five shots and a block to round out a 5.0 fantasy point evening. Not much else to be said about him right now with nine goals and six assists in those 10 games and leading the league in goals scored since the beginning of February. He and the Predators face an equally weak defense tonight in Calgary, compared to the Winnipeg defense last night, and is my superstar to build around thanks to his production and affordable price compared to the likes of Ovechkin and Kane, who have tougher matchups and will cost DFS players over $2,000 more than the Nashville forward.
Linden Vey, RW – VAN vs ARI – $2,900: Despite the RW tag, Vey is serving as a center at the moment for the Canucks. He made the shift to the pivot role and is centering the Canucks top line in between Daniel Sedin and Emerson Etem. Despite limited playing time this season (29 games) Vey has solidly put up 14 points and five of those have come in his last six games. He is averaging over 20 minutes of ice time during his last two outings during which he produced a PPG and added an assist to go along with six SOG and two blocks. With Henrik Sedin confirmed out for tonight against the Coyotes expect Vey to be right back on the top line in a favorable fantasy matchup.
“Despite limited playing time this season (29 games) Vey has solidly put up 14 points and five of those have come in his last six games”
Jori Lehtera, C – STL vs CHI – $3,800: Another value player who is centering a top line is the Blues Lehtera. He returned over the weekend to the St. Louis lineup after missing three games with an upper-body injury. He immediately made an impact netting a goal while adding five shots and two blocks and playing almost 18 minutes of ice time. He continues to center the Blues top line with his usual linemates Valdimir Tarasenko and Jaden Schwartz and the trio has been very productive in the past. Despite a tough matchup against the Blackhawks tonight Lehtera has found his way onto the scoresheet twice vs the Hawks this year in three games.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson, D – ARI @ VAN – $6,200 OEL is one of the bright spots for the Arizona Coyotes this season and his absence from their lineup is a huge blow to their offense. He suffered an upper-body injury on Monday night against the Avalanche and is considered day-to-day at the moment. Should he miss their matchup tonight against the Canucks expect a bump in value for Michael Stone and Kevin Connauton.
Henrik Sedin, C – VAN vs ARI – $4,900 Sedin, as was said above when talking about Vey, will remain out of the lineup tonight for the Canucks. He is still nursing an upper-body injury and it will force him out of his second-consecutive game for Vancouver.
