Top Lines of the Night
Tampa Bay Lightning vs Detroit Red Wings
Nikita Kucherov ($8,000) – Brayden Point ($5,700) – Ondrej Palat ($5,400)
Kucherov pushed his point streak to five games in the Lightning’s win over the Blackhawks on Monday. He has a multi-point game in each of the five outings, posting seven goals, 11 points, five power play points (PPP) and 22 shots on goal (SOG). Palat has matched his linemate with a five-game point streak of his own, with two multi-point games. He had a power play goal (PPG) and an assist against Chicago. Point was shut out against the Hawks but has eight points and 19 SOG in his last eight games. This trio has a combined 10 points in three games against Detroit this season.
Toronto Maple Leafs @ Nashville Predators
Auston Matthews ($7,500) – William Nylander ($6,100) – Zach Hyman ($4,000)
Matthews and Nylander have been incredibly impressive this season, but they are getting even hotter at the right time down the stretch for the Leafs. Matthews enters tonight on a six-game point streak with seven points, two PPP and 18 SOG. Nylander is riding a Leafs franchise-record 12-game point streak. His assist against the Panthers on Tuesday pushed his streak to 12, and gives him 14 points in that time span. Hyman brings up the rear but did have a multi-point outing against the Panthers on Tuesday and is a solid value option tonight thanks to his exposure to Matthews and Nylander.
Superstar to Build Around
Connor McDavid ($8,100) – McDavid pushed his point streak to eight games with his goal against the Kings on Tuesday. He fired off six SOG in the game to cap off his 6.5 FPTs outing. Overall, McDavid has scored in nine of his last 10 games netting five goals and 10 assists. He has four PPP and is averaging 5.4 FPTs per game, a full point higher than his 4.4 FPTs per game season average. He faces the Sharks tonight, who continue to struggle defensively, and who McDavid has four points in three games against this season.
Value on Offense
Nick Ritchie ($3,800) – Ritchie is having a very solid first full season in the NHL and is skating on an underrated line at the moment with Corey Perry and Antoine Vermette. He comes into tonight riding a three-game point streak and is coming off a multi-point game against the Canucks on Tuesday.
Derek Ryan ($3,400) – Ryan is enjoying playing on a line with Jeff Skinner and has dished out an assist in five straight games. He has 27 points in 60 games this season but with as hot as Skinner is, I think Ryan is a great value play tonight, especially if Columbus starts backup Joonas Korpisalo.
Jonathan Bernier ($8,000) – Bernier posted another fantastic outing for the Ducks on Tuesday night, stopping 34 of 35 shots faced against Vancouver. The win pushed his winning streak to five games, and he’s allowed a total of nine goals in that time span. Despite the return of John Gibson, expect the Ducks to roll Bernier until he cools off.
Andre Vasilevskiy ($8,300) – Vasy struggled early against the Blackhawks on Monday but finished solid to pick up a much-needed win for Tampa. He allowed four goals on 29 SOG, but won his second straight start. It’s the fourth time in his last five starts he’s allowed four goals in a game, but he faces the Red Wings tonight, and he’s 2-0-0 with a 1.08 goals against average vs Detroit this season.
Value on Defense
Keith Yandle ($4,600) – Yandle has points in three straight games and in four of his last five games for the Panthers. He’s been doing it in all situations with three of the five points in those four games coming on the power play (PP). He has added five blocked shots and 10 SOG in that five-game span.
Andre Markov ($4,300) – On the other side of that game between Montreal and Florida tonight is Markov, who has points in back-to-back games. He has two goals, two assists, two PPP, three blocks and four SOG in those two outings. The Habs have a great matchup tonight against Panthers backup Reto Berra.
Power Play Defensemen
Roman Josi ($6,400) – Josi has points in seven of his last 10 games, dishing out nine assists with two coming on the PP. Josi and Ryan Ellis are producing a ton at the moment for the Predators defense and he continues to get great peripheral coverage. Josi has 17 blocks and 27 SOG in his last 10 games to go along with his nine points and has a solid matchup against the Leafs at home tonight. Josi has 30 points in 35 games in Nashville the year.
Justin Faulk ($5,100) – Faulk has come up big for the Canes lately, helping to power the team offensively from the blue line as they climb back into the playoff picture. Faulk has points in three of his last four games and has back-to-back multi-point games. He has two goals, three assists, one PP assist and 18 SOG in his last four games. He’s averaging over 5.0 FPTs per game in that span for Carolina, and has two points in three games against Columbus this season.
