Ben Bishop – TB vs DET – $8,100: Bishop continues to have one of the best seasons for goalies in the league this year. In his last nine starts he has been fantastic, allowing only 13 goals against which is good for a 1.45 GAA and a .952 SV%. He has posted two shutouts in his last three starts which have bookended a four-goal against loss to the Stars. He has allowed three goals or more in three of those nine games and the other six have been one goal or less.
“Bishop has lifted the Lightning into playoff contention all season…”
Bishop has lifted the Lightning into playoff contention all season and is certainly in the running for the Vezina trophy (awarded to the league’s best goaltender). He is currently sitting at the top of the league in GAA with a 2.04 mark, second in SV% with a .928 posting and is seventh in the league in wins with 35. He has a tough matchup against the Red Wings tonight who are fighting off the Flyers and Islanders in the Wild Card standings, but on the season Bishop has been great vs Detroit posting a 1.69 GAA and a .935 SV% against the Wings on the year.
Top Line of the Night
CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS (VS DALLAS)
This line looked solid when it was put together over the weekend for the Blackhawks over the weekend against the Wild despite being held off the scoresheet in the Hawks shootout loss. Toews and Ladd have been playing together for the majority of the time that Ladd has been in Chicago and the two have done some damage. Toews has seven points in 10 games that Ladd has been in the lineup including an assist on Ladd’s goal in Winnipeg last week. Ladd has looked solid in a Hawks uniform with five points in 10 games and has added 20 shots on goal. Hossa took a few games to get back into the flow of things and shake the rust but had goals in back-to-back games before being shutout against the Wild over the weekend. Overall in his five games back he has 15 shots and three blocks to go along with his two goals. The Blackhawks have a very tough matchup with major divisional implications tonight against the Stars, who are shorthanded with some key injuries, but this line has had their success against the Stars as a whole combining for seven points against the Stars this season.
Brent Burns – STL @ SJ – $8,400: Burns is my top defender of the night with his recent strong play. Compared to Erik Karlsson, his matchup is more favorable against the Blues, who are far worse than Karlsson’s opponent, the Capitals. He has been great for the Sharks, powering their offense from the blueline all season. He has put up 11 points in his last 10 games while adding 40 SOG and 13 blocked shots. After posting a nine shot game against the Rangers with no points he snapped a two-game on Sunday against the Coyotes with an assist and two shots. He faces the Blues tonight and Brian Elliott who is starting his second game since returning from injury.
Alec Martinez – LA @ MIN – $4,700: Martinez is the third wheel on a very solid and deep blueline in LA behind Drew Doughty and Jake Muzzin. He gets overlooked sometimes by the latter two but he has solidly put up 30 points in 71 games on the year. He has six points in his last 10 games and currently has scored a goal in back-to-back outings for the Kings against the Bruins and last night against the Predators. He has put up nine SOG over the two games and is averaging three blocks per night meaning that he is getting fantastic category coverage and comes in $3,700 cheaper that a top option like Burns.
Superstar to Build Around
Connor McDavid, C – EDM @ ARI – $7,200: There are a ton of top players on the market tonight for DFS hockey players to choose from, but McDavid is the one I would roll with. Since he returned from his injury on Feb. 2 he has been one of the most productive scorers in the league. He is currently riding a four-game points streak with five assists spread over the Oilers last four outings and he has found the scoresheet in seven of his last 10 games overall. In those last 10 games he has also chipped in three PPP and put up 27 shots on goal. He is over a point-per-game player on the season with 40 points in 38 games and has a great matchup tonight against the equally-lowly Arizona Coyotes, who are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and have lost two in a row.
Cody Eakin, C – DAL @ CHI – $3,800: Talk about taking advantage of an opportunity. Eakin has been tasked with filling in for the injured Tyler Segin and is occupying the center position between Jamie Benn and Patrick Sharp. Seguin last played on St. Patrick’s Day, the night that Eakin had three assists and he followed up his first game on the top line with a goal in 18 minutes. He’s riding a four-game point streak at the moment and has points in five of his last six overall. The Stars have a tough matchup against the Blackhawks in a matchup with divisional implications on the line, but it will be easier should backup Scott Darling get the nod again for Chicago with Corey Crawford still on the mend.
Alex Chiasson, RW – OTT @ WAS – $2,600: Playing on the Senators second line with Mika Zibanejad and Mike Hoffman has been good for Chiasson, the mostly bottom-six forward for Ottawa. In his first 66 games of the season he only managed to put up 11 points but he has goals in back-to-back games against the Sabres and Canadiens. He is seeing solid minutes in a scoring role with good playmakers and that should continue going forward tonight against the Capitals.
Corey Crawford – CHI vs DAL – $8,100 Crawford remains day-to-day for the Blackhawks after not suiting up for them since March 14th. He is not certain to start tonight against the Stars and there is no timetable on his return to the Blackhawks lineup.
Jack Eichel, C – BUF @ CAR – $6,100 Eichel was forced to miss the Sabres last outing against the Maple Leafs on Saturday with an illness and it kept him from practicing with the team on Monday. He will travel with the team to Carolina and is expected to be back in the lineup for Buffalo tonight.
