Top Lines of the Night

Pittsburgh Penguins vs Carolina Hurricanes

Sidney Crosby ($8,600) – Conor Sheary ($5,800) – Bryan Rust ($4,900)

Crosby had a night last night against the Devils, posting a goal and two assists. His three points pushed his point streak to five games and gives him 14 points in his last 10 games. Sheary collected an assist on Crosby’s goal and added two shots on goal (SOG). He has two points in his last three games. Rust potted his 10th goal of the season and has already surpassed his 41-game total from last season with 16 points in 33 games this year. He and Sheary will have great fantasy value while they have exposure to Crosby.

Los Angeles Kings @ Vancouver Canucks

Jeff Carter ($6,900) – Tanner Pearson ($4,600) – Devin Setoguchi ($3,400)

Carter has taken over the offense for the Kings, leading the team in both goals (19) and points (29). Carter has nine goals and 10 points in his last 10 games and is riding a three-game goal streak at the moment with five goals in his last three games. Pearson has collected an assist in each of his last two games and assisted on one of Carter’s two goals last night. Setoguchi has points in two straight games after a long scoring drought. He potted his fourth goal of the season before the Christmas break and added an assist on Carter’s second goal last night. He has also added five SOG in his last two games, and I think he is a solid value pick tonight against a weak defense.

Superstar to Build Around

Auston Matthews ($7,700 ) – Matthews comes into tonight riding a three-game point streak and points in seven of his last 10 games overall. He has six goals and 37 SOG in that span and has outperformed his season average, posting 4.9 FPTS per game. He has two goals, three points, six blocked shots and 14 SOG on this three-game streak and faces the Panthers tonight. Despite not having a point in two games vs Florida this season, tonight’s game is in Florida and Matthews has 17 points in 16 road games on the year.

Value on Offense

Teuvo Teravainen ($4,500) – Teravainen skated on a line with Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal on Friday against the Bruins. He potted his ninth goal of the season and added two SOG. He has four goals and six points in his last eight games and sits third on the Canes in goals and fourth in points this season.

David Perron ($4,800) – Perron has been up-and-down this season for the Blues but has a very good matchup tonight vs Philly. Perron has points in three of his last four games and has scored a goal in back-to-back outings. Philly has been struggling, losing three of their last four games, and he is facing Steve Mason, who is sporting a 3.03 goals against average (GAA) on the road.

Stud Goalies

USATSI_9758932_168381090_lowres

Matt Murray ($8,400) – With Fleury getting the start last night, Murray should draw in the net tonight. He had a hiccup game his last outing, letting up six goals to Columbus, but it was only his third regulation loss of the season. Murray faces the Hurricanes tonight in Pittsburgh, and on the season Murray has posted a 1.83 GAA and a 7-0-1 record on home ice.

Carey Price ($8,000) – Price gets the nod tonight for the Canadiens when they travel to Tampa. Price continues to dominate this season, sitting third in wins, second in GAA and tied for second in save percentage (SV%). In his only game against the Lightning this season he picked up the win, holding the Tampa offense to a single goal on 31 shots.

Value on Defense

Chad Ruhwedel ($2,800) – Ruhwedel has been given a prime opportunity with Pittsburgh and has seized it. He has played three games for the Pens this season and is riding a two-game point streak. He has a goal, an assist, two blocks and five SOG and is seeing more minutes as he goes.

Jason Demers ($3,400) – Despite the struggles of the Panthers overall, Demers has been solid of late. He has points in three of his last four games, collecting two goals and three assists. He has a favorable matchup tonight vs Toronto.

Power Play Defensemen

Jake Gardiner ($4,600) – Gardiner continued his solid run of play heading into the Christmas break with three points in his last two games. He posted three assists, two on the power play (PP), in those two games. He has eight points, five power play points (PPP), six blocks and 20 SOG in his last eight games for the Maple Leafs.

Jeff Petry ($4,900) – Petry has been a force for the Canadiens in their last seven games, picking up the slack for the slumping Shea Weber. The blue liner has five goals, three assists, two PPP and 30 SOG in his last seven games and notched the only goal for the Habs in their loss to Columbus before the break. Petry has five points and 23 SOG in his last four games.
