Fantasy Hockey Cheat Sheet: NHL Picks, Values, Goalies for March 14

There are 10 games on the NHL fantasy hockey late tonight. It features a dynamic matchup between the Bruins and the Jets; the Lightning battle the Red Wings, and the Predators are in Hollywood to square off against the Kings. Here are the best line stacks, value plays and stud goalies you should consider for your NHL DFS lineup.

Top Line Stacks


Lightning at Red Wings


Ondrej Palat ($3,600) – Steven Stamkos ($7,400) – J.T.Miller ($3,600)

The Maple Leafs have two explosive lines with Stamkos centering the “first line.” Stamkos has sniped 34 goals this season and is producing 4.4 FPPG. He has produced 16 goals and 18 assists on the PP. Palat sniped a goal in their most recent game and is averaging 2.4 fantasy points per game. Five of his eight goals have come on the road. Miller has collected 12 goals this season and one of them came against the Red Wings. He has recorded 15 points (4G, 11A) with the man-advantage this year.

Blues at Senators


Brayden Schenn ($5,500) – Ryan O’Reilly ($6,400) – Robert Thomas ($3,100)

The Blues are in the middle of a playoff race, and their No. 1 will be expected to produce points without the injured Vladimir Taraskenko. O’Reilly has produced two goals and two assists in the past four contests. He’s producing 4.0 FPPG and has tallied five power play goals. Schenn has recorded two goals and three helpers in the past four games. He’s averaging 3.0 fantasy points per contest. Thomas has potted seven goals this year, and two of them have come on the PP.




Superstar to Build Around


Alex Ovechkin, WAS at PHI ($7,900) – The Capitals’ left winger has been a goal-scoring machine yet again this year. He has sniped 46 goals this year, and 16 of them have come on the PP. He’s averaging 5.3 fantasy points per contest. Ovechkin collected a goal and an assist in the Capitals’ most recent matchup against the Flyers. Twenty-eight of his 46 goals have come on the road, and he’s recording 5.3 FPPG as a visitor.


Value on Offense


Andreas Athanasiou, DET vs. TB ($5,100) – Athanasiou has totaled 24 goals and 18 assists this season. He’s producing 3.3 FPPG and has produced three points (1G, 2A) in the past four contests. The center has recorded three goals and four assists on the power play. Seventeen of his 24 goals have come at Little Caesars Arena.

Rickard Rakell, ANA at ARI ($4,900) – Rakell has recorded two goals and three assists in the past five games. He’s averaging 2.9 FPPG and has collected seven assists with the man-advantage. He has potted 11 goals this year, and seven of them have come on the road.




Stud Goalies


Andrei Vasilevskiy, TB at DET ($8,300) – Vasilevskiy is 9-1-0 in his past 10 starts, and two of those wins were shutouts. He has recorded 32 victories, a 2.23 GAA and a .931 save percentage. The Russian netminder is averaging 6.3 FPPG and has collected six shutouts. He won his only start against the Red Wings this year, stopping 29 of 30 shots.

Pekka Rinne, NSH at LAK ($8,400) – The Predators’ No. 1 goalie has won 24 games this year and is averaging 4.2 FPPG. He has produced a 2.51 GAA and a .914 save percentage. Rinne has collected three shutouts this year. He’s 2-0-0 against the Kings this season and has a .930 save percentage against LA.




Value on Defense


Ryan McDonagh, TB at DET ($5,000) – The Lightning d-man has recorded three goals and three assists in the past 10 contests. He has three helpers on the power play and is averaging 2.9 FPPG. He has recorded a goal and an assist in three matchups against the Red Wings.

Justin Schultz, PIT at BUF ($4,800) – Schultz collected two assists in his most recent game and produced 7.0 fantasy points. He has recorded one goal and 12 assists in 17 contests. Schultz is averaging 3.0 FPPG, and five of his assists have come on the power play.

Drew Doughty, LAK vs. NSH ($4,700) – Doughty is averaging 2.9 FPPG and has dished out three assists in the past two games. He has recorded five goals and 15 assists with the man-advantage. Doughty has tallied 34 helpers this season and is averaging 3.2 FPPG at Staples Center.




Power-Play Defensemen


Brent Burns, SJ vs. FLA ($6,800) – The Sharks d-man has been awesome for San Jose this year. He has collected six goals and 19 assists on the power play. Burns has recorded 13 goals and 60 helpers this season while averaging 4.9 FPPG. Six of his goals have come at home, and he had an assist in their lone game against the Panthers earlier this season.

Roman Josi, NSH at LAK ($6,200) – Josi has recorded two goals and 10 assists with the man-advantage. The defenseman is producing 4.3 FPPG and is on a four-game point streak. Josi has scored a goal and dished out three assists in two games against the Kings this year.
