Leon Draisaitl

We have an intriguing six-game slate this Friday, featuring some lines/players with the potential for massive fantasy production. The red-hot Oilers face the wilting Red Wings, while the Capitals will look to win two straight against the Rangers. Also, in one of the better fantasy matchups of the night, the Avalanche will look to get back on the winning track against the Panthers, after losing to the Penguins their most recent time out.

Top Line Stacks

Alex Ovechkin ($7,800) — Evgeni Kuznetsov ($5,700) — John Carlson ($6,700)

The Capitals’ offense has scored four or more in three of its past four games and looks primed for a big night here. The Rangers make for an above-average matchup as New York has ceded well over 35 SOG per game thus far and has allowed nine goals against in its past two games. Targeting the Capitals’ power play specialists makes sense as the Rangers had the fifth-worst penalty kill last season and seem due for some regression in that area soon.

Ovechkin is in a great spot to achieve the five-shot bonus while Kuznetsov’s price is ridiculously cheap for a player averaging three SOG and more than a point per game thus far. Pairing these two with the best fantasy defenseman in the game in Carlson, who has produced every night it seems regardless of how the Capitals have done, and hoping they can strike together for multiple goals together makes sense against a weak opponent.

Superstar to Build Around

Leon Draisaitl ($7,900), EDM vs. DET There’s no need to get fancy when deciding who to target among the studs tonight. The Oilers’ big guns have started the season off with a bang with Draisaitl making an early case for co-MVP honors with linemate Conner McDavid ($8,100). Draisaitl has featured on the score sheet in every single Oilers game thus far while playing an amazing 24 minutes per night. He’s averaging two points per game, four SOG per game and takes on Detroit, which has yielded 10 goals in its first two games on this road trip. The Oilers’ studs could post some ridiculous totals in this spot, so don’t be afraid to start lineups by paying up for Draisaitl here.

Value on Offense

Andre Burakovsky ($3,700), COL at FLA Burakovsky has started off well with his new team, posting five points in six games as part of the second line for Colorado. The former Capital is doing a bit of everything right now, averaging two SOG per game and averaging 9.7 DKFP coming into tonight. The Panthers are a solid matchup, having allowed just under four goals per game thus far, making this a nice time to deploy Burakovsky as a value pick up front.

Zack Kassian ($4,200), EDM vs. DET The Oilers make for a great team target here if you’re looking for value as they enter tonight’s game second in the league in goals scored per game and are playing the Red Wings, who have struggled to keep the puck out of their own net of late. Kassian has moved into a top-six role with Edmonton this year and is averaging more than 16 minutes of ice time a game, spending a lot of that time playing alongside Conner McDavid ($8,000) and Leon Draisaitl ($7,900) at even strength. He remains a solid value target at his low-$4K price until something with his role changes.

Stud Goalies

Matt Murray ($8,200), PIT vs. DAL The Penguins enter tonight’s game with the Stars as -135 favorites as of writing with Murray himself showing solid form over his past few games. The Penguins’ netminder has allowed two goals or less in three of his past five starts and is on a three-game win streak. Pittsburgh has allowed well over 30 SOG per game thus far, making this a decent upside spot for Murray, who sets up as a solid favorite with an outside shot at hitting the SOG bonus in this spot.

Philipp Grubauer ($7,900), COL at FLA Grubauer comes into tonight’s game with no regulation losses in five starts and a .922 save percentage. The Avalanche’s No. 1 goalie has faced more than 30 SOG in each of his five starts, making him a legitimate candidate to achieve the DraftKings SOG bonus seemingly every time he hits the ice. Through six games the Panthers have attempted 38.1 SOG per game, making this a fantastic spot for Grubauer, who has started the season in fine form, to potentially grab both the win and SOG bonus points.

Value on Defense

Ethan Bear ($3,500), EDM vs. DET Bear scored his first goal of the season in the Oilers’ most recent game and finds himself locked into a solid role on the Oilers’ blueline at the moment. The 22-year-old has played more than 22 minutes in three of his past four starts and is even seeing a little bit of power play time now to boost his upside. His increasing role and a good matchup against the Red Wings make him a nice target tonight.

Samuel Girard ($3,500), COL at FLA Girard is in a similar spot to Bear tonight as he has a solid matchup and has carved out a consistent role on the Avalanche’s second defense pairing. The 21-year-old scored 27 points last year but is averaging 22:40 minutes per game of ice thus far in 2019, giving him good all-around upside. He’s averaging 1.5 blocked shots per game, 1.7 SOG per game and has averaged just less than two minutes of power play time per game as well. Against the Panthers, who have allowed just under four goals per game, he’s as solid a value on defense as it comes on this shorter slate.

Power-Play Defensemen

Kris Letang ($5,900), PIT vs. DAL While I have zero qualms about paying all the way up for John Carlson ($6,700) tonight (see above), I also love taking advantage of the sub-$6K price tag we are getting on Letang here. The Penguins are dealing with injuries up front but still have managed to be the 13th best power play unit through the first few weeks of the season. Letang is playing more than 25 minutes a night and averaging a ridiculous four SOG per game thus far. With so many injuries, he should continue to try and rack up shots vs. assists in the short term and gets a decent matchup against the Stars, who have not started the season well at all and sit at just league average in penalty kill percentage on the year.
