With salaries trending to reflect statistical production over the value of a player’s name, Preseason perceptions have essentially been thrown out. This provides some nice buy-low opportunities if you believe that they can turn it around. Injuries are also playing a big role in salary, shifting the typical amount of targets or touches a player receives. Some of these scenarios are highlighted below.
Turn $27 into $1 MILLION in DraftKings’ Millionaire Maker contest this Sunday!
Nick Foles, PHI @ ARI, $6,300 – Entering Week 1 with the 4th highest salary among QBs, Foles’ price has plunged $2,200 to 15th at the position this week. Despite the Eagles 5-1 start, his numbers have not matched his ridiculous pace of last season, where he finished with 27 TDs and just 2 picks. From a yardage standpoint, he projects well ahead of last year, but the focus seems to be stuck on his 10-7 TD to interception ratio. Foles remains a solid fantasy start due to the high volume of plays consistently run by the Eagles. He has averaged 40 passing attempts per game in a high-powered offense that still seems to be improving, while keeping pace with the NFC East leading Cowboys. The Cardinals have a stout defense that is especially tough at home, but it’s hard to ignore the value here.
Ahmad Bradshaw, IND @ PIT, $5,900 – With Trent Richardson missing practice Thursday and being questionable this week, Bradshaw’s value naturally gets a boost. Even in a timeshare situation, he has gotten enough meaningful touches to produce solid fantasy numbers, and leads all RBs with 6 receiving TDs. Marshawn Lynch is 2nd in the NFL in this category, with half of Bradshaw’s scoring totals through the air. Although he has never received more than 15 carries in a game, he is rushing at solid rate of 4.8 YPC, and has also contributed 24 catches. If Richardson is unable to go, he could be in-line to top the 20 touch mark for the first time this season.
Cecil Shorts III, MIA @ JAX, $4,300 – Shorts has dealt with a nagging hamstring injury to start the season, but has proven healthier as of late with 25 targets over the past 2 weeks. After exploding with 10 catches for 103 yards in his Week 6 return, he failed to match this production last week. Despite almost double-digit targets, his struggles seem to stem from inconsistent play from rookie QB Blake Bortles. The difference in these 2 contests is that Bortles threw for 336 and 159 yards, respectively. If he can get back on track, Shorts will have plenty of opportunity to make plays and is priced affordably at 37th on the WR list.
DeAndre Hopkins, HOU @ TEN, $4,200 – Despite remaining stuck in the shadow of Andre Johnson, Hopkins has actually outperformed him in 4 of the Texans 7 games this year. Last week, he had his 2nd 100-yard receiving game and already has 31 catches thus far. With Houston dropping 3 straight games, they have a chance to break that streak against the lowly Titans, and should come out being aggressive after Monday night’s collapse. This bodes well for Hopkins, as the Clemson product chases his 4th TD of the season. He is priced just below Shorts at almost half of Antonio Brown’s salary.
Zach Ertz, PHI @ ARI, $3,200 – After being priced at $5,200 in Week 3, Ertz also enters the week at his biggest discount of the year; a full $2,000 cheaper than his highest salary. He has been as high as 7th in TE salary and now finds himself bottoming out at 24th on this list. While he has certainly underperformed his Preseason hype, much of this seems to be attributed to his difficulty blocking. He is still the Eagles greatest receiving threat from the position and has had success stretching the field at over 16 YPC. He scored his 2nd TD of the season last game against the Giants, and might finally be on the upswing.
