Simulated Madden Football

We’re all in need of some entertainment during these times of the unknown. DraftKings is doing their part by offering Madden simulations with a variety of teams going at it. For this piece, we’ll focus on the Packers and Seahawks game that’ll take place at 8 p.m. ET Thursday night. It’s important to note that Madden runs a bit different here and we have some things to consider.

First and foremost, speed is such an important factor. These players are always going to get open and can give you an edge with a player that you’d potentially look over when you consider his real life role. We’ll get into that more in the article below. Players also have particular X-Factors, which can best be described as “power ups” that can be activated if a player completes a certain threshold. These will be put into considerations as well and will be highlighted with those particular players.

SHOWDOWN STRATEGY

Seattle Seahawks

As one of the top rated players in Madden and the highest rated player in this game, Russell Wilson ($11,400) should have a solid game tonight. Wilson has an overall rating of a 97 and is more than capable of scoring fantasy points with his arm and via running the ball. Coming into today, he’s scored rushing touchdowns in three consecutive games. Per game, Wilson averages 19.8 DKFP, the most of any player in this contest.

Talking about starting running backs in Madden and their general lack of production always has to be a common theme when writing these articles. This is especially true when it comes to the Seahawks. Chris Carson ($8,200) has been impossible terrible in our simulated games. He’s averaging 4.6 DKFP per game and has somehow never topped 54 rushing yards in any of Seattle’s 15 games. Fading Carson is an easy play for me. We have a better chance to get production out of C.J. Prosise ($1,000) at min price. He averages 6.3 DKFP and has scored as many as 21 DKFP.

At wide receiver, this isn’t a great spot for Tyler Lockett ($10,000). It’s hard to not be concerned with his matchup against Jaire Alexander. Alexander has an 89 overall rating, compared to Lockett’s 88 rating. In addition, we have seen Lockett fail in many easier matchups. He only averages 11.3 DKFP, making it tough for me to want to pay for his lofty salary.

For the price, DK Metcalf ($6,400) is my favorite receiver for the Seahawks. He’s considerably cheaper than Lockett, making him easier to stack with Wilson, and he has a solid 80 rating. Not only is Metcalf big, he has a 95 speed rating in Madden, making him a really tough player to cover. Metcalf also draws a more favorable matchup than Lockett. He’s going to be covered by Tramon Williams, who is rated as a 76. One final reason to roster Metcalf over Lockett, he averages more DKFP at 11.9 per game. Behind Wilson, Metcalf averages the second most DKFP on the team.

Green Bay Packers

Ratings wise, Aaron Rodgers ($11,200) is pretty clearly the less quarterback in this matchup. Even though he has a solid 89 overall rating, this doesn’t quite stack up to Wilson’s 97. Even so, Rodgers is a player to consider. There are only three players in this game averaging more than a dozen DKFP and the Packers’ future HOF quarterback is one of them. He is putting up 17.5 DKFP, second in this contest only to the aforementioned Russell Wilson.

If spending up for a skill position player, I think Davante Adams ($10,800) is the way to go. He averages 16.5 DKFP and the next best receiver (D.K. Metcalf) is averaging 12.9 DKFP. Adams is one of the best receivers in Madden. He has a 94 overall rating and is going to be drawing coverage from Shaquil Griffin. Griffin is competent as a top cornerback, but with just an 84 rating, Adams should come out on top in this matchup. In the Packers’ last eight games, Adams has hauled in 10 touchdown receptions.

Another running back we can easily fade is Aaron Jones ($9,000). Like Carson, he hasn’t performed well in the simulated games. Jones is averaging just 6.3 DKFP and has topped out at 78 rushing yards in the Packers’ 15 games. He barely outscores his backup, Jamaal Williams ($2,600), who is averaging 5.2 DKFP. From what we have seen, focusing on the Packers’ passing game makes more sense than targeting the running game.

On the cheaper end, Marquez Valdes-Scantling ($4,800) looks like a solid value play. MVS is only a 73 and is always at a rating disadvantage when the Packers play. Despite this fact, he’s one of the top fantasy producers on the team, averaging 10.1 DKFP. We can also consider rostering Geronimo Allison ($1,800) as one of the top value plays in this game since he is averaging 8.7 DKFP at nearly min price. I slightly prefer Allison as a value play over Prosise.

THE OUTCOME

The fantasy production from the Seahawks is almost entirely centered around Russell Wilson. Due to his ability to run the ball, he’s cashing in on a lot of the touchdowns around the red zone. This is making it hard for many other players to rack up fantasy points, as evidenced by their DKFP averages. For this reason, I am looking to build lineups around both the quarterbacks.

Building around both the quarterbacks creates a bit of a salary crunch, so I like the idea of going really cheap at Captain. Playing somebody like Geronimo Allison ($2,700 CP/$1,800) in that spot makes a ton of sense to me. He’s much too cheap when considering his average production and rostering him as Captain allows us the flexibility to roster whoever else we want.

As for the actual result of the game, I lean towards the Packers. The Seahawks have been pretty terrible in the DK Madden sims and we have a decent sample size to fall back on. Right now, Seattle is a 6-9 team. On the flip side, the Packers are 9-6 in our Madden sims. Neither of these teams have played in many high-scoring games lately, so temper expectations as to how many DKFP will be scored in this contest.

Final Score: Packers 24, Seahawks 17
