With real basketball currently on hiatus, DraftKings is launching simulated basketball games! Take note of the rules since this contest doesn’t work like any other contest we have had before.

How does Simulated Basketball work?

DraftKings will choose an NBA matchup and prior to each game, entrants can draft free DFS Showdown lineups for the upcoming simulated game. Lineups will receive fantasy points for a player’s performance within a randomly-assigned game earlier this season (any game from the 2019/20 season is eligible, not just the specific Showdown matchup listed above).

Set your free to play lineups here: $2K Simulated Basketball Free Contest (TOR vs LAC)

Which players are eligible in the player pool?

Players who have played in at least 15 games in the 2019/20 season are eligible to be drafted.

What do I get if I win?

Every free contest will award DK Dollars that can be used to enter DFS contests.

What are DK Dollars?

DK Dollars act just like cash and can be used to enter any daily fantasy contest on DraftKings. DK Dollars cannot be withdrawn from your balance.

Note: All salaries will be Flex prices unless noted as Captain’s Pick prices.

Toronto Raptors

The pricing on Marc Gasol ($2,400) is really odd. He’s having a strong season for the Raptors and averages 24.35 DKFP. I am not sure why he’s priced so cheaply. The only poor games Gasol has had are due to limited minutes either from returning from an injury or when he got injured during a game. He’s a safe play for salary savings and has decent upside since he’s scored at least 30 DKFP in a third of his games.

The three highest priced Raptors all make for solid plays. Pascal Siakam ($10,000), Kyle Lowry ($9,000) and Fred VanVleet ($8,000) are viable options and Lowry is my favorite play of the group per dollar. He averages 41.36 DKFP, only slightly behind the scoring average of Siakam. This is also a step up from the 36.96 DKFP that FVV averages, so the extra $1,000 is well worth it in my opinion.

Another strong play from the Raptors is Serge Ibaka ($6,000). For the season, he’s averaging 31.43 DKFP and he’s flashed a ton of upside due to all the Toronto injuries. Since Marc Gasol and Pascal Siakam have both missed games, there have been times where Ibaka has been forced to play big minutes. For this reason, he has a dozen games with at least 40 DKFP. Ibaka’s ceiling is much greater than his floor since he only has eight games with under 20 DKFP.

Los Angeles Clippers

With a decent amount of value available, Kawhi Leonard ($18,000 CP/$12,000) makes for the top Captain’s Pick. He’s averaging 48.42 DKFP per game, by far the most of any player in this contest. The second highest average is Siakam at 42.45 DKFP. We know Kawhi has upside and he has nine games going over 60 DKFP.

Even though he has obvious upside, Paul George ($9,400) isn’t one of my top plays from this game. He averages 37.95 DKFP, which is a decent amount less than Siakam and Lowry, who are priced around him. We just have to sweat that George doesn’t draw one of his big box scores from a game that Kawhi was resting.

I think Reggie Jackson ($3,400) is the best per dollar play on Los Angeles. He’s priced for his time on the Clippers and his salary seems to ignore the time he spent with the Pistons. This was the same situation we saw in the Clippers’ sim game against the Lakers the other day and Jackson ended up drawing a great box score for his price. Jackson averages 24.49 DKFP, and combined with Marc Gasol, we can spend up for anybody we want. As another value play at guard, we can also look at Patrick Beverley ($4,000). He’s a bit more expensive than Jackson and averages a bit less DKFP, but he’s still a good value play per dollar and the presence of Jackson could limit his ownership a bit.
