WATCH: HE’S ON FIRE – STEPHEN CURRY
The NBA rolls on tonight with a four-game slate, so here are my favorite studs and values for tonight’s action. If you have any questions, reach out to me on Twitter @JasonWalkerDFS.
Stephen Curry – GSW at LAC – $8.700 – Guess who’s back? Back again? Steph is back. Tell a friend. Curry lit up the Charlotte Hornets last night and now gets to go into LA to face a Clippers’ backcourt that has been getting shredded by opposing offenses. The once proud Clippers’ defense is dead last in the last five games in team defense, allowing over 120 points per 100 possessions, which is about how many possessions we will see tonight in this game.
Other Options – John Wall ($10,400)
D’Angelo Russell – LAL at WAS – $5,700 – Russell played 34 minutes in his last game and put up a stellar 51.25 DK performance against the Denver Nuggets. Russell maintains top raw usage when on the floor (28% last game) and while the Wizards are going to be much tougher than the Nuggets, Russell’s role should be the same.
Raymond Felton – LAC vs. GSW – $4,900 – Felton had 27+ DK points two games ago in Oakland when these two teams went at it, and he should get at least the same 27 minutes he played in that game, if not more tonight.
Other Options – Patty Mills ($3,600)
Bradley Beal – WAS vs. LAL – $7,000 – Beal has not taken less than 10 shots in any game that he has played all the way through this season. Even in blowouts, he gets his shots in, resulting in a nearly 26% raw usage rate. This is a great matchup against the Lakers with the Wiz holding a savory projected team total of 115.
Lou Williams – LAL at WAS – $5,700 – Williams will get his shots in here, as he always does, getting double digits shots up in 90% of his last 20 games. The Lakers are likely to be playing from behind, which benefits a Lou Williams game script.
Tim Hardaway, Jr. – ATL at HOU – $4,200 – The Rockets will give up some outside shooting, and THJ has been getting 30+ minutes with Thabo Sefolosha (doubtful again) out. The Hawks will need a lot of offensive firepower to keep up with Harden and the Rockets, meaning Hardaway should be getting solid minutes again here.
Jamal Crawford – LAC vs. GSW – $4,400 – Always a tournament play for me, but Crawford has the raw usage and shot attempts that indicate he could surprise with a big performance. With Chris Paul out, Crawford has seen more minutes, getting 32 in the latest effort against Phoenix.
Other Options – Nick Young ($4,100), Eric Gordon ($5,100)
Kawhi Leonard – SAS vs. PHI – $9,000 – Kawhi is on a rampage, scoring over 30 real points in seven of his last nine games. No LaMarcus Aldridge tonight benefits Leonard as well, as he gets a 5% raw usage bump in that scenario.
Markieff Morris – WAS vs. LAL – $6,800 – He’s more of a cash game play at this price for me, since he is right up against his production ceiling relative to his salary. But the matchup is good for him here, at home, and playing against Julius Randle’s replacement (Randle is questionable with illness) who are larger and less likely to defend him well. Morris has been remarkably consistent with over 30 DK points in 13 of his last 14 games.
Other Options – Kevin Durant ($10,300)
Kent Bazemore – ATL at HOU – $5,300 – Like Hardaway, the Hawks will need Bazemore’s offense to keep pace with the host Rockets, and Bazemore’s recent low 20s% raw usage confirms Bazemore’s relevant role in the offense.
Kelly Oubre – WAS vs. LAL – $3,400 – Oubre is already getting 27-29 minutes a night, albeit with low usage. However, should Wall, Beal and Morris do as expected, Oubre will get some extended later game run, where Oubre gets a 7-8% raw usage bump.
Blake Griffin – LAC vs. GSW – $7,700 – Blake is also back in full swing, going for 34 minutes against Phoenix, using 25% of possessions and putting up a 50 spot. He’s a tourney play only in my opinion, since there is risk of GSW blowing out the Clips on a back-to-back, but if the Clippers do keep it close enough to play four shifts, it will be because of Blake putting up another huge game.
Paul Millsap – ATL at HOU – $7,800 – Millsap is the minutes leader on the Hawks, but blowouts have limited his minutes recently. Much like Blake, Millsap will be a tourney option only for me, because of the Hawks’ bottom ten defense causing the blowouts, but Millsap’s all around, box score stuffing talent provides a good ceiling in this matchup.
Other Options – Draymond Green ($8,100) (Editor’s Note: Draymond Green has been ruled OUT tonight with a shoulder injury).
David Lee – SAS vs. PHI – $5,200 – No LaMarcus Aldridge gives David Lee the probable start and 30+ minutes against the 76ers tonight. Nerlens Noel would be a tough matchup for Lee offensively, but Lee gets a 9 DK point bump per game with LMA out.
Trevor Ariza – HOU vs. ATL – $5,100 – Cash game play only for me, as Ariza’s ceiling is capped by a low teens raw usage rate and less rebounds with Ryan Anderson and Clint Capela active. The projected game total is right at 225.5, and his minutes are locked in for a solid cash game floor here.
Dwight Howard – ATL at HOU – $6,900 – Dwight lashed the Rockets in their first meeting, scoring 48 DK points. The Hawks have been unable to get Howard the ball recently, something that’ll have to change to beat Houston tonight.
Marcin Gortat – WAS vs. LAL – $6,000 – This is a good matchup at home for Gortat, who has 44, 36.50 and 35.50 DK point games in his last three. He’s a cash game play at this price.
Other Options – DeAndre Jordan ($7,400)
Dewayne Dedmon – SAS vs. PHI – $3,500 – No Pau Gasol and no LaMarcus Aldridge gives Dedmon a huge bump as well. Dedmon is looking at mid 20s minutes against the Sixers, and his DK point per minute rate makes him a terrific value on this slate.
Ivica Zubac – LAL at WAS – $3,900 – Everyone is on to Zubac now, but he does get a DK point per minute and should see reasonable minutes (20-22) off the bench tonight against the Wizards. He is highly correlated with Lou Williams, who looks to be a strong play tonight as well.
Other Options – JaVale McGee ($3,000)
