Even on this limited four game NBA slate on NFL Sunday, DraftKings is hooking us up with nearly $400,000 in guaranteed contests for both cash and ticket prizes. Three of the four games have a 202 or higher projected point total, so there are plenty of ways to construct rosters tonight. On to the recommendations!
Rajon Rondo – SAC vs POR – $8,400 – On this short four game slate, Rondo is a sneaky counter against those gamers rolling with Russell Westbrook – $10,400 in tournaments. With Oklahoma City listed as fifteen point favorites, I am choosing to go with Rondo who is a triple double threat anytime he takes the court. The Kings are at home and have not played since last Wednesday. Portland is coming off a nice victory last night against the Cavaliers, however, it looks like they will once again be without PG Damian Lillard, so this should be a nice no defense type game.
Isaiah Thomas – BOS vs NYK – $7,700 – Yesterday I wrote” In his last twenty-two games, IT2 has been phenomenal with twenty games of at least 32 fantasy points and in half of those he has exceeded the forty fantasy point plateau.” Naturally he was a slight disappointment with only 29.8 DraftKings points. I am going back to the well once more today as the Knicks really do not defend opposing backcourts very well at all.
Darren Collison – SAC vs POR – $4,800 – If you are looking for a discount option, Collison is a nice choice in the matchup against Portland. Most gamers do not like taking bench players, but as we have seen, Collision usually sees starters minutes (around 30 per game) and he flashed his upside in Indianapolis on Wednesday with 24 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal on his way to 39 fantasy points.
Will Barton – DEN at OKC – $7,000 – This should be a spirited matchup as these two teams project to combine for 206 points. If the Nuggets want to be relevant in this game, it is going to be up to Barton to carry them on offense. It looks like Emmanuel Mudiay and Danilo Gallinari are going to be out for another week. Barton is a solid investment on Sunday.
C.J. McCollum – POR at SAC – $7,200 – McCollum will once again be a popular play on Sunday as he is going to be the main source of offense for the Trailblazers with Damian Lillard likely out. The Kings have once again been among the worst teams in the league versus opposing shooting guards and they are not so great against point guards either. This is a fine matchup, regardless of McCollum’s specific role.
Allen Crabbe – POR at SAC – $4,600 – As mentioned above with McCollum, this will be a great matchup for Crabbe. Over his last three games he has taken an average of 15.7 field goal attempts and he should be able to approach 30 fantasy points in this contest which would be an outstanding 7x his current price point.
Kevin Durant – OKC vs DEN – $10,000 – If I have to pick just one of the OKC superstars tonight it is going to be Kevin Durant. The Nuggets do not have anyone who can contain him and he should efficiently meet his season average of 47.7 DraftKings points, with upside potential in play.
Omri Casspi – SAC vs POR – $5,900 – Casspi has fallen off gamers radar with his increased salary. It is finally at an appropriate level to reflect his 35 minutes per game. His calling card is a high floor that is close to 20 fantasy points with his ability to contribute across the box score and he has the ability to flirt with 40 fantasy points in the right matchup, like the one tonight.
Matt Barnes – MEM vs LAL – $5,800 – This is a fine matchup for both Barnes who is starting at the power forward position with Zach Randolph no anchoring the second unit and teammate Jeff Green – $5,400 who is starting at small forward. The Lakers are a fun team to target against and both of these guys should be in line for solid production.
DeMarcus Cousins – SAC vs POR – $9,900 – This is a fantastic matchup for Cousins who has produced no fewer than 43 fantasy points in his last seven outings. The Portland frontcourt is not equipped to deal with him and if he can keep his head in the game after four days off, he should content for the most fantasy points of any player on the schedule.
Serge Ibaka – OKC vs DEN – $6,600 – This is a fine matchup for Ibaka as the Nuggets frontcourt is very, very soft. In the last meeting, Ibaka put up 5 blocks and 42.3 DraftKings points in just 30.5 minutes of action. Enjoy!
Brandon Bass – LAL vs MEM – $3,400 – We need to find some discount dandies somewhere if we want to ensure we can build a roster with the available top talent. Even with Julius Randle returning, Bass saw 21 minutes on Christmas Day. Over his last three games he is averaging right around 22 DraftKings points which gives him a nice 6-7x value ratio if he can reach that number tonight.
Marc Gasol – MEM vs LAL – $7,300 – If you are spending at the center position, Gasol is the one pricey option. Memphis should easily dispatch the Lakers so there is some risk in this pick as it is unlikely that Gasol will be on the court long enough to surpass 35-40 DraftKings points.
Mason Plumlee – POR at SAC – $5,300 – Portland needs their BIGs to step up if they want to contend with the Sacramento Kings frontcourt. With Ed Davis leaving last night’s game with a sprained ankle, Plumlee will likely see at least 30 minutes and accumulate a double double, which is worth an extra 1.5 DraftKings point bonus. These milestone points are often overlooked by gamers and on such a short slate with a lot of overlap likely, we need to eke out any edge we can muster.
Nikola Jokic – DEN at OKC – $4,400 – Saving the best for last, well best value option anyway, look to Jokic for some sneaky production upside. Last night in San Antonio he put up 22 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and two combined blocks/steals. The going will be much easier today against the Thunder and he is an outstanding play at the center position or in the utility spot.
