Boston Celtics @ Detroit Pistons

Game Analysis

For the last two weeks everyone has been rostering Reggie Jackson, KCP, and Andre Drummond – who all saw usage bumps with Greg Monroe out. All those guys have also seen their prices rise, and that is my biggest fear with them in this game. Monroe is coming back from injury, and I think it hurts all of the other starters who should lose a few shots to him. Jackson and Drummond were playing sub par before the injury, so it will be interesting to see who this news effects most. Boston, on the other, hand has won four of it’s last six. Sully and IT2 are both back, and Crowder is expected to play despite the questionable tag. They are finally all healthy, although some are still playing themselves back into game shape. The total here is pretty nice at a solid 200, and the spread means Vegas expects it to be close, so I think this game is useable for fantasy.

Line: Detroit -1, O/U 200

Players to Watch

  • Evan Turner, PG, Celtics ($6100)
  • Isiah Thomas, PG, Celtics ($5700)
  • Andre Drummond, C, Pistons ($8500)
  • Caron Butler, SF, Pistons ($3100)

Chicago Bulls @ Orlando Magic

Game Analysis

Chicago has won four of it’s last six games. With Butler back and healthy bigs, they have again become one of the league’s best defenses. They have only allowed one opponent in those six games to crack triple digits and are holding teams to an average of 89 points per game. They are winning with defense again, and this should be a low scoring game. The Magic have not sniffed a total near 200 in five straight. They are playing slower, defending better, and controlling tempo. With two teams that enjoy the rough slow rugged style of play, I expect this to be one of the lowest scoring games on the night. There’s a lot of high priced stars here, and while I expect a few to pay off, I’m not going to target this one heavy on a 13 game slate. There’s better spots to look at.

Line: Bulls -8, O/U 193.5

Players to Watch

  • Elfrid Payton, PG, Magic ($7400)
  • Tobias Harris, SF, Magic ($6700)
  • Joakim Noah, C, Bulls ($6000)
  • Mike Dunleavy, SF, Bulls ($4500)

Toronto Raptors @ Charlotte Hornets

Game Analysis

Well it seems like Kyle Lowry will not be ready to play tonight after all. He will join Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Amir Johnson, Cody Zeller, and Al Jefferson on the sidelines in this one. That really jams up the analysis here. With no big men healthy for the Hornets, we have to like Marvin Williams to play big minutes again. Also, we have to like Jonas Valanciunas and Patrick Patterson, as they should see increased minutes, too. I’m not playing Vasquez or Wlliams, and have not lately. I liked each when they were $1000 cheaper, but the upside is far less at present prices. You would have to think guys like Gerald Henderson, Mo Williams, and Kemba Walker need to do more with no big man. This game is kind of hard to figure with so many back ups playing, but that is part of the fun of DFS in early April.

Line: Raptors -3, O/U 198

Players to Watch

  • Mo Williams, PG, Hornets ($5500)
  • Gerald Henderson, SG, Hornets ($5700)
  • DeMar DeRozan, SG, Raptors ($8100)
  • Patrick Patterson, PF, Raptors ($4000)

Washington Wizards @ Philadelphia 76ers

Game Analysis

The Wizards prefer a slower pace. They play good defense and can score enough to win games in the high 90s or low 100s. They get a really bad Philly team here tonight that has struggled all season. These two teams played a week ago, and Washington walked away a 13 point winner in a game that had a total under 200. I see more of the same today and would shy away from this one. There’s 13 games on the slate, and many are projected to be more competitive and higher scoring than this one.

Line: Wizards -7, O/U 191

Players to Watch

  • Nerlens Noel, PF, Sixers ($7900)
  • Ish Smith, PG, Sixers ($6400)
  • Marcin Gortat, C, Wizards ($6000)
  • John Wall, PG, Wizards ($8800)

Update: John Wall has been downgraded, and he is expected to miss tonight’s game against Philadelphia.

Atlanta Hawks @ Brooklyn Nets

Game Analysis

Everyone on Atlanta was healthy and suited up last night, which likely means we may see a few guys sit tonight. Brooklyn has been playing better recently and have really picked up the pace. It has benefited both Brook Lopez and Deron Williams in the process. Atlanta blew the Nets out by almost 40 in a game with a total of 230 points about four days ago. Vegas has no lines posted for this one at all because they too are waiting for news. It is very likely some Hawks sit, so while I will not list any of them here, just remember if the starters are out, then we should have a few value plays to consider here.

Line: Nets -5.5, O/U 203

Players to Watch

  • Deron Williams, PG, Nets ($6800)
  • Brook Lopez, C, Nets ($8300)

Indiana Pacers @ New York Knicks

Game Analysis

At this point in the season, there’s no further need to discuss how bad the Knicks are right now. All we really need to know is that this game has one of the higher spreads and one of the lowest totals. Vegas expects the Knicks to score under 90 points today and get their butts kicked. Indiana has been up and down recently, but they already beat the Knicks three times this year, with the average score being 100-83. Even with the Pacers struggling a little bit, I still like them today in this spot. Low totals and large spreads are a huge red flag for me, so be cautious using this game, as a blowout is likely.

Line: Pacers -12, O/U 191

Players to Watch

  • Ricky Ledo, SG, Knicks ($4000)
  • Andrea Bargnani, PF, Knicks ($6000)
  • Paul George, SF, Pacers ($5000)
  • Donald Sloan, PG, Pacers ($3000)

Cleveland Cavaliers @ Milwaukee Bucks

Game Analysis

The good news is there’s not a single injury on either side to be concerned with in this one. The bad news is there’s not a single injury in this one that would be to the Bucks benefit. A healthy Cavs team is a dominant Cavs team, and they are firing on all cylinders and getting contributions from all over here. Cleveland has won eight of it’s last ten and have been limiting opponents on the offensive end. The bucks have only won two of their last five and have struggled on offense. A struggling offense against a defense on the upswing is not a good recipe for the upset here. With the way Cleveland has played on both ends, I can understand why the spread is so high. My fears in this one are with everyone healthy and the Cavs a big favorite, the starters may not see their normal amount of minutes. Cavs options are high priced, so they could fall short of value if that is the case.

Line: Cavaliers -11

Players to Watch

  • Kyrie Irving, PG, Cavs ($7900)
  • JR Smith, SG, Cavs ($5900)
  • Michael Carter-Williams, PG, Bucks ($6400)
  • Ersan Ilyasova, PF, Bucks ($6400)

New Orleans Pelicans @ Memphis Grizzlies

Game Analysis

This game has a lot of significance for the Pelicans who are locked in a battle with the Thunder for that last playoff spot up for grabs. Despite being on the road, as 6 point underdogs, and in a low scoring game, they will be fighting hard, as a loss could mean them watching from home during playoff time. It is no easy task to go into Memphis and leave victorious. Memphis has won about 75% of it’s home games so far this year and seem to be healthy and fully loaded for this one. The Grizzlies are also locked with four other teams within three wins of each other in the middle of the playoff pack. A loss here could be the difference between a 3 seed and a 5 seed, so you know they, too, will be hungry. The total here is the lowest on the day, and the spread is pretty tight, so we could see an over hit in this one, as both teams have something to play for. Still, with a total this low I would not expect huge output on either side.

Line: Grizzlies -6, O/U 186

Players to Watch

  • Anthony Davis, PF, Pelicans ($11200)
  • Tyreke Evans, PG, Pelicans ($7900)
  • Marc Gasol, C, Grizzlies ($7000)
  • Kosta Koufos, C, Grizzlies ($3000)

Houston Rockets @ San Antonio Spurs

Game Analysis

This is one of the best games on the night to target for fantasy purposes. Both teams are with Memphis in that mix of squads who could move up or down in the standings with each win or loss. Between these two teams, they have only lost three of their last 20 games combined. Both teams have solid defenses and high powered offenses, so this should be a great game today. Houston won the first two meetings this year, and San Antonio took the last one. Splitter and Motiejunas are both out tonight, so it opens up some extra minutes on both sides. Both teams have some higher priced studs who play a lot of minutes, and I would roll them all out on this slate. This game will have tons of fantasy points, so make sure you have a piece of it.

Line: Spurs -5, O/U 208

Players to Watch

  • James Harden, SG, Rockets ($11000)
  • Trevor Ariza, SF, Rockets ($6800)
  • Kawhi Leonard, SF, Spurs ($8000)
  • Tim Duncan, PF, Spurs ($6400)

Los Angeles Lakers @ Denver Nuggets

Game Analysis

Denver is always tough at home, and they always push the pace. A 208 total is a really nice target, as I do not think this game gets too out of hand. The big thing to watch will be whether or not Ty Lawson can go. With Nelson already out, it would be a big blow if he missed this game. On the other side, I am not really sure what the Lakers are doing. They tend to have more talent sitting on the bench than they actually have in the game. I would love to recommend Jordan Hill and Ed Davis to you, but it’s pointless to do so with the lack of minutes they see. Overall, I think there’s got to be some scoring here and enough injuries to narrow down who will get them.

Line: Nuggets -10, O/U 208.5

Players to Watch

  • Jordan Clarkson, PG, Lakers ($6700)
  • Ryan Kelly, PF, Lakers ($4000)
  • Kenneth Faried, PF, Nuggets ($6900)
  • Ty Lawson, PG, Nuggets ($6600)

Sacramento Kings @ Utah Jazz

Game Analysis

Cousins is out for this one according to early reports, and the Kings should really struggle to score without him against one of the league’s best defensive units recently. Gay is back and should take a lot of shots. Thompson normally picks up his game in Boogie’s absence, as well. This should be another one of those lower scoring affairs, but I do like the Utah bigs against an undersized front court, in what should be an uptick in tempo for the Jazz.

Line: Utah -8.5, O/U 192

Players to Watch

  • Rudy Gobert, C, Jazz ($8100)
  • Derrick Favors, PF, Jazz ($7700)
  • Ray McCallum, PG, Kings ($4800)
  • Rudy Gay, SF, Kings ($7500)

Update: Rudy Gay is doubtful for tonight’s game against the Utah Jazz. It’s very likely he will not play.

Phoenis Suns @ Dallas Mavericks

Game Analysis

The suns have not played well after the big trade, and they are dealing with a number of injuries. They had lost five in a row before squeaking by Utah last time out. Their scoring is down and their opponents scoring is up, which is a recipe for a losing streak. They are missing their PG and C due to injuries, they are undersized, and they have multiple guys playing out of position to cover themselves. Dallas has also struggled recently. They have lost four of the last five and have some injuries of their own to deal with. It looks like Rondo will go, but they may be without the services of Chandler Parsons. Still Vegas likes them to win this game by a good margin, and based on the recent struggles for the Suns, I would have to agree.

Line: Dallas -8.5, O/U 204.5

Players to Watch

  • Brandan Wright, PF, Suns ($5500)
  • Gerald Green, SG, Suns ($3400)
  • Tyson Chandler, C, Mavericks ($5500)
  • Al-Farouq Aminu, SF, Mavericks ($4100)

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Portland Trailblazers

Game Analysis

The Timberwolves have lost six straight games. They have given up over 100 points in all but one and have only scored over 100 one time. They have a lot of injuries and are down to third string players at every position but the wing. The spread in this one if huge, so a blowout is the most likely outcome. The Blazers have won six of their last eight games. They have the ability to play at any tempo and should score a lot of points against this weak interior of the Timberwolves. My fear is the number of minutes for the starters in what should be a laugher. It’s tough to target this game on a large slate with the likely outcome and the huge spread.

Line: Blazers -16.5, O/U 203

Players to Watch

  • LaMarcus Aldridge, PF, Blazers ($8800)
  • Nicolas Batum, SF, Blazers ($6400)
  • Andrew Wiggins, SF, Wolves ($6800)
  • Kevin Martin, SG, Wolves ($6000)
