Defense vs. Position
Point Guard Matchups
BEST – Yogi Ferrell ($6,000) vs. Denver Nuggets – Yogi signed a 10-day contract with the Mavs and became an instant hero. He’s hit value in his first four games with the team, and his salary is soaring. I won’t let that push me away, though. Ferrell’s played 36 or more minutes in all four of his games and has a matchup with the Nuggets — who rank 29th vs. PGs, and are allowing nearly 70 DKFP to the position on average over the past five games.
WORST – Dennis Schroder ($5,600) vs. Utah Jazz – Schroder’s been wildly inconsistent lately, and he’s put together a couple of clunkers. The Jazz rank second in the league vs. PGs, so I don’t think this is the best situation to target him.
Shooting Guard Matchups
BEST – Dwyane Wade ($7,500) vs. Sacramento Kings – Wade’s reached value in six of his last seven games, and he’s really been picking up the slack in a messy situation in Chicago. The Kings rank as the fifth-worst team in the NBA vs. SGs, so Wade should keep rolling in this one.
WORST – Andrew Wiggins ($7,100) vs. Miami Heat – With Zach LaVine shut down for the season, Wiggins is now SG-eligible, and rightfully so. Over the long-term, this should help Wiggins’ get more opportunities on the perimeter, but Miami ranks third in the league vs. SGs. Wiggins has also failed to reach value in two of his last three games.
Small Forward Matchups
BEST – Carmelo Anthony ($7,700) vs. Los Angeles Lakers – The Lakers rank just 28th vs. SFs this season entering a tough matchup with ‘Melo. He’s failed to reach value in three consecutive games, but this matchup could provide Anthony with what he needs to have a bounce back game.
WORST – Kawhi Leonard ($8,400) vs. Memphis Grizzlies – Kawhi can breakout on any given night, and his salary is down $900 since his last game. However, matchup-wise Kawhi is facing the third-best defense vs. SFs in the NBA, and he’s failed to reach value in his past two games.
Power Forward Matchups
BEST – Markieff Morris ($6,500) vs. Cleveland Cavaliers – The Cavs have been allowing 52.5 DKFP to opposing PFs over the past 10 games, which ranks 27th in the NBA. Meanwhile, Morris has been playing fantastic lately, surpassing 31 DKFP in nine of his last 10 games. His last game was the only time he failed to reach 31 DKFP, but he played 38 minutes, which is an encouraging sign.
WORST – Paul Millsap ($6,900) vs. Utah Jazz – Millsap will be facing his old team tonight, which is also the best team in the NBA at defending PFs. The 60 minutes Millsap played against the Knicks last Sunday must be getting to him, as he’s failed to reach value in all three games since. Utah probably isn’t a team that’s going to let him get back on track.
BEST – Andre Drummond ($8,300) vs. Philadelphia 76ers – Drummond can be inconsistent regardless of matchup, but Philly is undoubtably a favorable opponent for the big man. The Sixers rank dead last against centers and are allowing over 65 DKFP to the position over the past five games.
WORST – Nikola Jokic ($9,000) vs. Dallas Mavericks – Jokic had a fantastic return from his hip injury against the Bucks, but really struggled against the Spurs, playing just 15 minutes. Dallas is in the top third of the league against centers this season, and has been the best team in the NBA vs. the position over the past five games — allowing less than 38 DKFP on average.
Lineup Quick Hits
Superstar Worth Paying For
DeMarcus Cousins ($10,900) – Boogie’s been my guy lately. You’ve heard it a million times, but with Rudy Gay out, Cousins has to do everything for the Kings. It makes it very difficult for him to have a poor fantasy outing. I’ll keep riding Boogie, regardless of matchup.
Save Big Bucks by Drafting
Guillermo Hernangomez ($5,200) – You can’t ignore this dude any longer. With Joakim Noah confirmed out Monday night, Willy Hernangomez should see a ton of minutes against a Lakers team that struggles big time against centers. He’s averaging 39.4 DKFP over his past three games, and he’s been a huge part of the rotation. It looks like the Knicks are finally smartening up and using this kid like they should.
Next Man Up
Pacers’ Bigs – Thad Young is confirmed out and Myles Turner is questionable for Indy tonight. Lavoy Allen ($3,700) will be the top value, after playing 32 minutes and scoring 42.75 DKFP in his last game. If Turner is out too, that value should trickle down to Al Jefferson ($3,100).
As usual, plenty of value is sure to open up closer to lock. So download DK Live and follow all the latest breaking news and analysis.
