Game Flow Notes
HIGH O/U – Celtics vs. Kings – The Return of Rondo produces the highest o/u of the night at 215. With DeMarcus Cousins back to full strength and the Celtics actually settling on a lineup this game should be high scoring. Will the Rondo revenge narrative be the story tonight, with his recent usage I think their is a good chance it will.
LOW O/U – Spurs vs. Grizzlies – The o/u in this game is 185. If you are looking for big man basketball, look no further than this game. This one should provide some great matchups between ZBo/LMA and Gasol/Duncan. I also look for Kawhi Leonard to have his hand in a lot of the scoring tonight due to Memphis’ ability to guard opposing SFs.
Pace of Play
HIGH PACE – Pacers vs. Trailblazers – Obviously we all know that the Celtics/Kings game will be very fast paced. The 2nd fastest projected pace of the night is in the Pacers/Trailblazers game. With a projected pace of 99.3 this game will be guard and Paul George heavy. Look for George Hill to be a nice contrarian play against a Trailblazers team that has historically struggled against opposing PGs.
LOW PACE – Magic vs. Jazz – Here they are, the Jazz. The Jazz have been able to fly under the radar the past couple of days due to higher paced matchups. However, we can’t hide them tonight as they have the slowest projected pace of play at 94.3 I love Derrick Favors in this matchup and worry about the inconsistency of the Magic’s depth chart.
Defense vs. Position
Point Guard Matchups
TARGET – Kyle Lowry vs. Emmanuel Mudiay – Lowry has been great this year posting over 40 fantasy points in 5 out of his last 10 games. He matches up with Mudiay tonight who has been very inconsistent. Look for Lowry to demolish the 27th ranked defense against opposing PGs.
AVOID – Elfrid Payton vs. Raul Neto – I had high hopes for Payton last year and he didn’t disappoint due to some monster games. This year has been a different story and we can officially say we are in a slump. Payton has squeaked by with value on some nights, but most nights he is in the red. Neto and the Jazz are ranked 9th against opposing PGs. They will look to keep Payton under control tonight.
Shooting Guard Matchups
TARGET – Demar Derozan vs. Will Barton – I am not trying to run with a Toronto theme, but the Nuggets are just that bad against opposing guards. Barton and the Nuggets are ranked 30th against opposing SGs. Derozan is one of the “special” SGs that can fill up every stat category. Get him in your line tonight.
AVOID – Tony Allen vs. Danny Green – The Memphis guards are usually not their number one scoring option. The Spurs are 1st ranked against opposing SGs players. With his lack of offensive aggressiveness and the best defensive team against his position, it will be best if we stay away from Tony Allen.
Small Forward Matchups
TARGET – Gerald Green vs. Kevin Durant – This all depends on the status of Luol Deng, but if Green gets the start tonight he should be a popular play. The Thunder can score, but they have trouble defending. In his last couple of starts for an injured Luol Deng he has met value.
AVOID – Jeff Green vs. Kawhi Leonard – Jeff has been a nice value play this year, but nobody is a value play matched up against Kawhi Leonard. Leonard is the top defender in the league. Roll him out at your own risk tonight.
Power Forward Matchups
TARGET – Jared Sullinger vs. Omri Casspi – Sully sometimes gets the tag of Center, but he plays more like a Power Forward. For DK purpose you could use him in the utility as an extra C. He should get a matchup with Casspi tonight and has the potential to dominate. A Cousins/Sully stack isn’t out of the picture.
AVOID – Zach Randolph vs. LaMarcus Aldridge – ZBo has the toughest matchup of the night. He gets a Spurs team that is ranked 1st against opposing PFs. He has the ability to double double on a nightly basis, but it will be tough tonight.
TARGET – Bismack Biyombo vs. Nikola Jokic – Play C’s versus Denver, that is all!
AVOID – Marc Gasol vs. Tim Duncan – This matchup goes both ways, these guys are two of the top defenders in the league. This one should be a battle and honestly will probably prevent both guys from exceeding value.
Lineup Quick Hits
Superstar Worth Paying For
DeMarcus Cousins ($10,600) – Boogie should Boogie all over the Celtics tonight. His floor is 40 and his ceiling is 80. If your are going to spend up tonight this is the guy to pay for.
Save Big Bucks by Drafting
Bismack Biyombo ($4,900) – The Biz is a rebounding machine. He gets a great matchup against a terrible Denver post tonight. He will probably highly owned, but will make a great cash play.
Dud of the Night
Zach Randolph ($6,300) – ZBo has struggled to hit value as of late. He has an extremely tough matchup tonight and will have to fight for all he can get. I think there are better (cheaper) options tonight.
