Everything you need to know for tonight’s NBA slate!
Game Flow Notes
HIGH O/U – Kings at Wizards – With a 215 total the Kings come in at the highest scoring again tonight. This game should be extremely fast paced and should produce a lot of scoring from the stars. Look for John Wall and Boogie Cousins to carry the load for their respective squads tonight.
LOW O/U – Magic vs. Knicks- We don’t have any games that enter the 180s tonight, but this one is close. With an o/u of 196, the Magic are slipping into the realm of the low scorers. With Vucevic hammering the post the Magic have slowed down their game pace from last year. I am definitely thinking about rolling Arron Affalo in a revenge game!
Pace of Play
HIGH PACE – Timberwolves vs. Celtics- The Celtics have frequented the fastest pace of play all season long. The projected game pace for this one is 101.1 and should provide some nice scoring from the guards. I love IT2 in this matchup and may even roll Avery Bradley out as a value play.
LOW PACE – Pacers vs. Spurs- This game will be miserably slow and the Spurs will probably grind out a win. Without a projected game pace of 96.9 this is the slowest of the night. It won’t be great for fantasy, but the matchup between Kawhi and Paul George should be entertaining.
Defense vs. Position
Point Guard Matchups
TARGET – Jeff Teague vs. Tim Frazier – This matchup was already in the plus even if Lillard played, but now with Frazier as the starter…..The Trailblazers are ranked in the bottom tier against opposing PGs. Tonight against a backup Jeff Teague will have his way.
AVOID – Ricky Rubio vs. Isaiah Thomas- IT2 is one of the best defensive PGs in the league. This is evident by the Celtics #1 ranking against opposing PGs. Rubio has been decent this year, but will have to struggle for value tonight.
Shooting Guard Matchups
TARGET – Jimmy Butler vs. Joe Johnson – I am going to keep this short and sweet, Buckets vs Old Man Joe. Yes, I’ll take Buckets.
AVOID – Monta Ellis vs. Danny Green- I keep coming back to this matchup, but the Spurs are the best defensive team in the league right now. Both Ellis and Paul George will have to earn their points tonight and this matchup should be extremely tough for Ellis.
Small Forward Matchups
TARGET – Rudy Gay vs. Kelly Oubre Jr.- Kelly Oubre should draw the start for a doubtful Otto Porter tonight. The Wizards are already 30th against opposing SFs, if Gay is feeling it he has an opportunity to exceed value tonight.
AVOID – Paul George vs. Kawhi Leonard Read the paragraph about Ellis if you want anymore explanation. Two of the best in the league battle it out tonight. I think it will be great for TV, but not so great for DK points.
Power Forward Matchups
TARGET – Clint Capela vs. Marvin Williams- My Hornets have struggled against PFs all year. They have become even more suspect with Al Jefferson out on suspension. Capela has drawn the start for the Rockets and will have the minutes/usage to hit value tonight.
AVOID – Jon Leuer vs. Derrick Favors- Even though the Spurs have taken over the 1st spot (here’s to you LMA). I still think that Favors is the best defensive PF in the league. Leuer has had a great run for the Suns, but will get all he can handle tonight.
TARGET – Al Horford vs. Mason Plumlee- Here we have another chance at value for Al Horford. The Trailblazers are 30th against opposing Cs. Al has the chance to dominate tonight.
AVOID – Deandre Jordan vs. Steven Adams- Most of the scoring comes from Westy and KD, but Adams is an excellent defender. The Thunder C has held opposing C’s in check this year. Jordan should have a tough time against the Thunder tonight.
Lineup Quick Hits
Superstar Worth Paying For
Russell Westbrook (10,400)- Westy once again comes in as the top play of the night. I have him projected at 50+ DK points tonight. When you match Westy up against other elite PGs he like to show off. I expect a show tonight.
Save Big Bucks By Drafting…
Tim Frazier (3,000)- With Lillard/McCollum out tonight, Frazier is projected as the starter for the Trailblazers. He will get all of the minutes he can handle and should hit value tonight. During some spot starts with the 76ers he produced nice value.
Dud of the Night
Paul George (9,200)- George has had a rough patch, after a monster beginning to the season. He has failed to hit value in his last 3 matchups. Yes his price has dropped, but it just seems like the Pacers are trying to spread the love more. I like other options tonight at this price point.
This is not a comprehensive list. Be sure to check for injury updates throughout the day
Nene Hilario (Doubtful), Drew Gooden (Doubtful), Otto Porter (Doubtful), Damian Lillard (Out), CJ McCollum (Out), Shane Larkin (Out)
