WATCH: THREE IN THE KEY– TIM HARDAWAY JR.
The NBA starts the work week off with a strong seven-game schedule tonight including a number of grudge matches that could be playoff series previews. Stars like Russell Westbrook and James Harden will look to continue their runs of dominating performances, and if you are looking to build your team around those high-priced stars, you’ll need to fill the rest of your roster with good value options. If you’re in search of a strong play under $4K, check out these options from Monday’s Bargain Bin:
Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot – SG/SF – PHI @ ORL – ($3,800) – The top target under $4K for tonight is the Sixers’ Luwawu-Cabarrot who they have been giving plenty of run to lately after nabbing him with the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft. He continues to start for the Sixers and has averaged 12.4 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 0.6 steals in his five games since moving to the starting unit.
TLC has scored at least ten points in four straight games and has over 17 DKFP in each of those contests highlighted by a 26.75 DKFP game last Sunday against the Lakers. As the Sixers head to Orlando tonight, look for more work for Luwawu-Cabbarot in a good matchup against the Magic.
Taurean Prince – SF – ATL @ CHA – ($3,500) – Another rookie quietly getting some extra run lately is the Hawks’ Taurean Prince who was taken 12th overall. Prince has played 29 minutes or more in three of Atlanta’s last four games, and he could get extra work tonight since the Hawks will be without Kent Bazemore for the week as he deals with a bone bruise.
While Tim Hardaway Jr. will likely get the start in place of Bazemore, Prince should see extra time off the bench especially against the Hornets and their smaller lineups. Prince had two big games against the Grizzlies over his last four games posting 32.25 and 32.5 DKFP in the two halves of the Hawks’ home-and-home. He followed that with a solid 24 DKFP on Saturday against Portland. In all three of those games, Prince has collected multiple blocked shots, asserted himself on the defensive end and taken a good amount of shots. If he plays 25+ minutes tonight in Charlotte, Prince has the potential to be the best value of the night. The reason he’s slightly behind Luwawu-Cabarrot on this list is that TLC is starting while Prince’s role of the bench is less secure.
Nik Stauskas – SG –PHI @ ORL – ($3,400) – The Sixers continue to play hard and show some signs of improvement as they come to the end of their season which offers fantasy owners good value. Another player to check out from their matchup in Orlando tonight is Nik Stauskas who is putting up good numbers coming off the bench. Stauskas has posted over 25 DKFP in each of his last two games even though he hasn’t reached double-digit scoring in over two weeks.
Stauskas had nine points, six boards, four assists and two blocked shots yesterday against Boston for 28.5 DKFP in 30 minutes. He had 25.75 DKFP his previous game with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and nine points in 26 minutes against the Mavericks. Stauskas is showing his game is more diverse than just long-distance bombs. If he keeps up his non-scoring production, he’ll have a high ceiling if he starts hitting a few more triples.
Austin Rivers – PG/SG – LAC vs. NY – ($3,800) – In the final game of the night, the Clippers host the Knicks. One of the cheap plays to check out tonight in that matchup is Austin Rivers who continues to get good minutes for his dad’s team even though Chris Paul’s return has returned him to the bench. Rivers has played at least 29 minutes in five of his last eight games and has at least 19 DKFP in four of his last seven.
Earlier this year against the Knicks, Rivers had seven points, ten assists and four rebounds in 36 minutes, but that was while he was in the lineup in place of an injured CP3. With Paul back, Rivers isn’t the focus of the offense, but he does still get enough time off the bench to produce decent DKFP especially if he gets extra time in tonight’s potential blowout.
